On April 10, 1976, the longest, fastest and largest roller coaster ride in the world made its debut at Six Flags St Louis. The Screamin' Eagle burst through the Bicentennial year and into the history books by plunging its passengers down a 100-foot drop and throwing them around the track at more than 60 miles per hour.
From the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: photos and video.
I have always enjoyed this coaster. Was my first “big” coaster.
One of these days I'll get there. I believe this was John Allen's last coaster, unless you count the consulting work he did on The Beast?
By today's standards this isn't a large ride, but in photos it still looks massive. And beautiful.
Red, white, and blue has always appeared to me as the perfect color scheme for wooden coasters.
Picture #19 has the most stereotypical 1970s people I've ever seen.
Hi
Ha! I thought the same thing.

Clicked through because of this comment.
Was not disappointed.
That wasn't a still from the movie Dazed and Confused?
It's really a beautiful ride and the 70s greatness in picture 19 was a hell of a flashback! Thanks for sharing.
