Iger says Disney theme park price increases were too "aggressive"

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Returned Disney CEO Bob Iger acknowledged that fans had a right to be irked as theme park ticket prices crept higher under the previous regime and said it wasn’t the best way to manage the brand.

“I always believed that Disney was a brand that needs to be accessible,” he told a Morgan Stanley media conference Thursday. “And I think that in our zeal to grow profits, we may have been a little bit too aggressive about some of our pricing. And I think there is a way to continue to grow our business but be smarter about how we price so that we maintain that brand value of accessibility.”

Not surprisingly there's an MTV Top 100 of 1988 playlist on YouTube.

At a glance, a few standouts that aren't embarrassing... I was tempted to link all of these to "Never Gonna Give you Up." You're welcome.

DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - Parents Just Don't Understand

Robert Palmer - Simply Irresistible His suit is more timeless than most of the huge shouldered pointy crap people were wearing back then.

Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine (1,495,866,567 views) Stark contrast to the Welcome to the Jungle video.

Pet Shop Boys - Always On My Mind

At a glance that's kind of it.

What did I misunderstand? I was agreeing that their biggest hit is not their best representation, and possibly their worst song (while you don't hate it like I do, you said it's your least favorite of their songs).

Actually, I was responding to Eightdotthree's post above yours. He appeared to be agreeing with the opposite of what I was saying. Which is allowed of course, I just didn't want to be mis-interpreted. Music and cars are the only 2 things where I really care what others think of my opinion, heh heh.

Oh, and I just listened to your 2 tracks posted above. I kind of dig them. In fact they are very Living Colour / Fishbone / early Incubus, early RHCP, etc.

Jeff:

Give Vivid another listen. I think you'll be surprised. I never thought of it as metal.

Yeah, double posts, I know... wanted to respond to each of you individually.

So I listened to Vivid in it's entirety yesterday at the gym. I was surprised that I remembered a few more of the songs and remember Open Letter and Glamour Boys being singles too.

For the most part I liked it. I like that style of music enough for what it is, but have never really got into it. I attempted to get into Fishbone for a minute in college because, idk, I was supposed to or something.

There's skill there for sure, and yeah, it's not really metal. I listened straight through and only skipped Glamour Boys because, well, yeah...

Just for the sake of being thorough I may actually give one of their newer albums a shot too.

Now, Jeff, you go listen to Angel Dust by Faith No More. I can't promise you'll love it, but the first track "Land Of Sunshine" is probably my favorite song of theirs. It shows off their amazing rhythm section, Mike Patton's vocal abilities, their ability to be silly, all while still being a meaningful song.

We are all traumatized by the DON'T QUOTE THE PREVIOUS POST comments over the years.

eightdotthree:

I never quite understood why Faith no More is a thing either.

I write well. I just meant that in addition to Living Colour, I don't understand why Faith no More continues to have a fanbase.

I miss MTV of the 80s and early 90s.

loved all those niche shows like Yo MTV raps and headbangers ball. Even those silly game shows and sketch comedy shows they used to do like Remote Control and The State. MTV was extremely relevant in that era. I guess time passed them by or social media promotion took over pop culture.

I've owned that since around the time it came out. I was indifferent about it then, and my opinion hasn't changed. I liked The Real Thing better, and wasn't crazy about that one either.

I care a lot!

(That was a Faith No More joke.)

Remote Control was a fun show. I was watching some episodes on youtube recently.

The State is still freaking hilarious. I have the DVDs and have watched on Paramount plus, and unfortunately neither have the original music. There was just something that was perfect with the songs that they picked out for the sketches that doesn't translate with studio musicians making royalty free sound alike riffs. Still good though. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go get $240 worth of pudding.

Two words: Kari Wuhrer.

Also, Colin Quinn played here for a show my wife house managed. Totally unassuming, kind, showed up at the front door by himself. I respect that.

The people who complain about $500 for a family of four at Disney are some of the same people that will drop $500 for two people to go to a football game for 3 hours. Just saying.

Pretty much. We all have different priorities and spend money differently.

They probably do complain about the football tickets too. Some people just like complaining. I hear a lot of the people around me complain about the price of tickets, yet they still come back year after year.
