The next time your in Youngstown, pay a visit to the Historical Center of Industry and Labor.
I'm not saying we don't have nice things in Youngstown. Just take a look at Mill Creek Park, it's beautiful, and a few years ago was voted one of the nicest parks in the country. All I'm saying is we have to quit living in the past if were going to survive in the future. Back in 1987 I wrote an article for the Jambar (YSU's newspaper) about Corby, England, a town that was a mirror image of Youngstown, and they said the first thing we need to do is tear down the steel mills, because as long as they stand, we will always think they will be used again. Tell me that you have never heard, to this day, that the steel mills will spring back. It won't happen, and I'm not being pessimistic, it's just that foreign steel is cheaper. Personally, about ten years ago I thought that they should tear down the steel mills and put a park there. There's great access from I-80 and I-680. But the chances of that happening are highly unlikely. I don't know if it's strictly a Youngstown thing, but we tend to hang on to things forever. The Industry & Labor museum is an example. It's nice we have it, but we're celebrating an industry that is dying out in our valley.
Getting back to the subject of the post, I donated quite a bit of signage to the "Back to Idora" event that was out in Brookfield a few year's ago, but I don't know how good an idea sitting in a parking lot on a "not so good" side of town is, looking at a plot of land that has no remnants of the park on it. I think it would be kind of depressing. I think you'd be better off renting out a room and having some kind of memorabilia show. Again, just my take on things. God love you guys for even attempting this.

The only place I like less in Ohio than Youngstown is Lima.------------------
Ahh, Lima, home of the Quepe (spelling?) burger. Gotta love a burger joint in a small town that has naked baby dolls hanging on the wall cause its their mascot. Kinda sadistic if you ask me.------------------

I was very interested in Idora history, but now since everything is torn down i have no interest in visiting a old torn down park.

Your Park only has 1 good coaster! That's too bad!
I haven't made it to PKI. I'm kind of suprised he paid money for that thing. Ironic that his wife is a hairdresser. Another era passes on.
Until November 2004 ;)

Many of you are asking what good is it to sit in an empty lot. It is more of a social for coaster enthusiasts. The main reason why I'm attending is to meet people that have the same interests: Roller Coasters!
-And one more POSITIVE fact about Youngstown: Where did the coach of the National Champions Ohio State Buckeyes come from??????

Today was a blast! It was great to hear a lot of good stories. We had an excellent turn out, and even a visit from the cast members of "Remember Idora" the musical.
BTW - The musical will be at Powers Auditorium May 23rd, 24th, & 25th.

Don't ask me if I'm in a bad mood; I naturally look "mean." I don't ask if you're goofy because you have buck teeth.

So for all those of you who are trying to deny that Ytown does suck, wake up and open your eyes. I live in Canfield, a suburb of Ytown, and it is a very nice place, however Ytown is dirty, dangerous and has nothing.
