I need some help with 4Ds

For some reason I cannot get the angle system can some one please help me out by telling me the angles needed for: flying position, standard coaster (front facing forward) position and lying down position? Thanks

Flying Position (assuming you want the train below the track) is -90

Standard Coaster is not possible with the train above the track. With it below the track it is either -180 or +180 depending on which way you want to rotate.

Lying down is -90 when the train is above the track and +90 when below the track.

Check out Distortion for a working example of rotations on a multi-dimensional coaster.

Thanks LG. I have been toying with my 4d for ages and could never get it right.

Just remember, that the angle is relative to the TRAIN, not the track. So as the train itself changes angle (going up hills, down hills, or inverting), the angles needed to keep the seat in the same orientation in space change as well.

For example, at the start (train on top of tracks), an angle of zero is facing backwards, upright. When the train is inverted, zero is facing backwards upside-down.

It's difficult and confusing to keep track of. It would have been nice if the user interface had shown a picture of the seat oriented with respect to the TRACK, so it'd be easier to construct. In fact, this sort of change would be a great update in the expansion pack...

Good point, Anonymouse. Track angle affects seat angle.

A guide would be nice. I used a little makeshift model I made out of an empty pack of cigarettes with two pieces of paper thumbtacked to the side - crude but effective. A few coaster designs using that and I have it down.

Thanks LG. It helped me as well, although Ive never really had TOO much trouble with the trains and seat position....you get the hang of it after a few coasters....

I agree, anonymouse, seat pictures would be a great addition to the exp pack.

Actually the seat-position does NOT affect the ride ratings!

I once used to completely mess up the design. In real-life the peeps would have been killed on the ride, but the ratings stayed the same, after I redesigned the positions.

Anyway, its nearly impossible to get decent ratings on the 4-D

tricktack is correct.

I spent a lot of time messing with designs for the official contest. The seat rotation sequence does not change the ratings one bit - better or worse. Don't have them rotate at all, have them just do 360's for the entire course, punch in random rotations - all 3 will end up with the same stats on the same layout. Of course it looks better if they rotate and it makes sense.
