I'm a pseudo-percussionist. I play mallet percussion. Does that count for anything? ;) By the way Swoosh, I don't do DCI but I like to follow it. I also have a few friends in DCA too.

I've often wondered from time to time, how to write good poetry- and make it all... Work.

MG87, marimba isn't pseudo-percussion. It IS a percussive instrument, as well as a melodic instrument. If anything, you win. :)

Technically, I was in NYS concert band for mallets and I made it into the orchestra for percussion, since I had scored 2 100s on my auditions. In this state, there is no "winning" state, it is just meeting the high standards for all instruments.

(Oh dear god, I can't get more pathetic. Discussing music on a coaster message board. Now if only we could add some accounting in, I would be the king dork)

It's okay, EZ, we'll let you hold the title anyhow.

And since we're talking bout music, I play a pretty mean Kazoo, and download pretty fast on Kazaa, what does that make me?

I'll always remember my band trip to Disney World my freshman year of high school back in '99. Marching through the park was very cool although it was pretty hot. Seeing some of the backstage area was cool too. We also filmed the opening shots for Disney's concert thing that they used to show on ABC during the summer (forgot the name though). It was just us running up to the park and through the gates, but it was a very cool thing to do since none of the other bands that were there that week got to do it. Our band also went to California Adventure two years later. We got to march in our own parade, and, although I don't know the truth about this, the Disney representative said we were the first band to march in the park.

Other than that, I've got to say that the trumpets are the best.

I marched in Epcot (to steal a line from a tv show and change it a bit "It's even boring to march through!") my senior year.

And to officially claim my title as "King Dork," I even marched with my high school marching band last year at Cedar Point, even though at the time I was a junior in college. That was my 10th year (I started in 6th grade). Let's see if I get a phone call in the next few weeks to play when they perform in NYC.

Although - if I can weasel a free trip out of it, it might not be so bad.

Our marching band performed for Magic Music Days at the Magic Kingdom last June (I play trombone and this year's trip is to NYC, we're leaving this Thursday:))

Damn, we are so cool! We want ARN&R to rip us to shreds, if they care about us!
My name is Tom, and I've been a bando for 4 years.

Our High School Band and Concert Choir are travelling to Annapolis, MD this spring for a music festival down there, and we're planning a small side trip to SFA for the day. We aren't performing anything there, we're just going there to have some fun... :)

Anyone on here do DCI during the summer?

I'll be trying out for Eklipse this summer...are you in DCI?

Eklipse? Never heard of them. I forgot to mention- my "pit tech" from two years ago was the DM of the Bluecoats last year, if anyone cares.

Holy cow are we off topic! ;)

I marched in DCI back in the mid 80's. I am still involved as visual coordinator (community involvment work) at my local high school. It is great to be able to give back to my community what meant so much to me. The kids have a great attitude and keep me on my toes. I also volunteer w/ a DCA corp. Drum Corp and rollercoasters-my two favorite things!!!!!!!!!!!

You marched in band in the 80s? I thought you were the singer for a power rock band back then...

;)
