I-305 major change?

I thought that it always had a slight twist at the bottom of the drop, but I've never seen it in person; only from photos and POV videos, so I could be very, very wrong. ;)

It's probably a quirk of no limits, the drop does twist slightly but not as extreme as in the simulation has it.

I think it's just a poor NL sim.

The first drop does bank very slightly to the left before the hard bank to the right entering the turn. It's not nearly as drastic as in the NL creation, so yeah...what Jeff said.

I am guessing they did the force testing on this ride before the original opening. Does anyone know the forces and duration on that bottom curve? Will they be required or will they do it after modification and can we find out the forces and duration for that?

Actually, it's quite possible the exaggerated twist is in fact how it is now, because by widening the radius of the turn they need to offset it somehow from the drop in order for it to line up with the second hill. I realize at least part of the second hill was dismantled, but they could be offsetting the first drop a bit so that the transition to the second hill isn't as severe.

Or it could just be a mistake in the NL model. ;)

[url][url]I am very surprised that no one has posted anything on here lately considering what has happened over the past week or so.

First off that NL Sim that you guys were discusing earlier is indeed false. Earlier this week the official Intimidator 305 facebook group posted the real pov http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/video/video.php?v=1636458119943&oid=124958054205570&comments The radius is larger but i wouldn't call it significantly larger (like in that fan made POV). The bigger change is probably in how the track elevates towards the end of the turn. I'm assuming that this would slow the train down and thus lessen the g-forces towards the end of the turn.

The trim brakes were just recently removed from the first drop from what i hear, and if you go on the parks official website's homepage http://kingsdominion.com/#actions it says "the fast lane just got faster" I'm assuming that that's what they mean by that.

edit-forgot to add this video confirming the removal of the trims

Does the second hill look to be more intense?

^ The second hill will obviously return back to it's previous nearly-floater-air status.

As someone who raved about the original i305 and hated it's 79 mph neutered version I'm very happy to see Timmy back at full speed this year.

Opening day can't come soon enough, it's been too long since I've awkwardly greyed out at 96mph :).

Actually, the rumor is that it is going faster than it did when it originally opened. Though we all know how rumors are.

Wow guys... gravity didn't change in the last few months so the ride obviously is not going to go any faster than it did at opening... /sigh.

OhioStater's avatar

But how do you know that for sure? Maybe gravity did change. Maybe it's you who needs to adjust your gravitometer.

CoasterDemon's avatar

Gravity does change according to the nearness of the moon, or something like that. And if the track drops closer to the ground and/or is of a larger radius, that could also increase speed. Very negligible of course - whatta big word!

Billy

Why on earth would they lower the track or do anything at all to increase the speed on a coaster that they are spending 6+ figures reconfiguring because it was causing greyouts and wheels were nearly melting due to speed-induced heat?

Odd theories guys. The graphic undoubtedly refers to the coaster running at it's original 94-96mph speed.

Am I missing something? Even with gravity as a constant, wouldn't removing the trims make it go faster?

Never a miscommunication.

Tide goes in, stain comes out. You can't explain that.

After riding i305 this past Saturday I am happy to report that the ride is running PERFECTLY now. There are no trims on the first drop at all now and the lift hill cable still runs at full speed all the way over the top. The entire pullout and first half of the turn remains insanely intense (enough to make me grey out to various degrees throughout the day)and the elevated second portion isn't really noticeably less intense. I can't emphasize enough how close it is to the original level of intensity - once you're greyed/greying out that one second of ride time isn't really important anyways :p. As soon as you reach the top of the elevated turn you get an amazing ejector pop of air that lasts all the way over and down the huge second hill and pulls you out of the "g-hole" quickly. The tiny third hill is back in full force with the crazy twisting ejector airtime leading into the once-again-full-speed "twisties" that are made much more fun by the soft restraints. They removed at least one set of trim plates from the fourth hill which allows the second half of the ride to maintain more intensity than it ever has, including a pretty violent twist into the camera and some serious snapping action up into the brake run.

I haven't ridden every coaster in the world but I'm fairly sure I'm safe to say that there is nothing even approaching its level of intensity. The monster is back and better than ever.

I personally don't think the modification was serious enough to eliminate all the wheel problems and they absolutely did not fix the greying out and dizziness issues, we'll have to wait and see what happens in the future. They weren't spraying the wheels on Saturday.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out once the weather gets warmer. I should get down there to ride it before they change it back though. :)

I've heard from quite a few that rode it before the trims on the first drop, and rode it after the turnaround was re-done, and everyone says the curve is still just as intense. Makes me wonder again if this was more of a change due to the wheel melting and less to do with people not able to handle it...
