Hypersonic Not Listed on KD Website

That ride was the only ride i truely hated at King's Dominion. A couple of the wooden coasters were rough, but re-rideable. When my brother and I took our one and only ride on Hypersonic, it was swear words the whole way through. I sort of hope they replace it with another launched coaster. It was cool going to a park with four launchers.

Has anyone ridden Hypersonic & Dodonpa. I loved Dodonpa - is it a better/worse ride?

I've ridden both.

Dodonpa was better, mainly due to the faster launch. However, it was marred by that awful recording in the queue that thrillerman1 mentioned. Not quite as bad as Ay-Jan-Eye-Ka! mind...

A ride should not bruise your thighs.

Except for extreme airtime :)

(Although I suppose with good restraints extreme airtime wouldn't bruise your thighs)

Well, as of yesterday, it was still standing at the park from what I saw--at least the main tower was. If they are dismantling it, they've started with some of the lower pieces.

The launch is flippin' amazingly powerful. However, the ride's poor design just made it a very jerky piece of garbage. If you took the same launch system and applied it to, say, a Premier or Intamin ride, it would be much better. Whoever thought that air inflated tires would make good coaster wheels? Too much flexing, IMO.

coastin' since 1985

I can't see how losing H:XLC would be a bad thing in any shape or form. Move it or rip it to shreds like Flashback, it's about time this contraption got the boot.
The ride sucked plain and simple, If you want a ride that has the launch of hypersonic and is just cool as it is different go ride the drag cars at old town.

My only qualm with them is the five point restraint slamming your crotch when you brake but I would assume that is par for the course with a drag racer.

I won't miss Hypercrappic, Dragster while not as extreme is a way better ride and in it's own way just as extreme since the launch lasts so long.

My Neck thanks Kings Dominion for Getting Rid of this Pc of Crap..
Well I for one am not shedding any tears over this POS's demise,I say good riddance & while they're at it they can get rid of that piece of firewood known as Hurler too.

I would love eto see an Xcelerator clone go there because it would fit in nicely with the 50's theme of the nearby cafe(sure they're removing the happy days theme but still) & it would make for a more reliable & reridable coaster experience than HSXLC ever was but alas if the rumors are true then Headspin may be taking it's place in 2009.

So glad they changed and upgraded the design before they built PowderKeg -- night and day!

I hope CF's putting it in Charlotte.

Hypersonic, not the flippin' boomerang. I've never ridden it but I'm positive it would draw at Carowinds; there are no real launch coasters anywhere near there.

Cedar Fair's not putting it anywhere. It's for sale. It's been for sale for at least a few months now.

^Agreed 1000%. If it were going to another CF park, it would NOT be listed for sale. Actually though, I think it's been on the market for upwards of a year now - had a F.S.B.O. sign on it when I was there in August.... ;)
It's not going to Carowinds, because it's not a water slide. I keep hearing it's being took down.. Is this true? Why take it down if it has not been sold? Still has one of the longest lines in the park. MAybe making room for another StarBucks? ( As I throw-up )

Still has one of the longest lines in the park.

That's a capacity issue, not an indicator of popularity.

^^Hey now don't go dissing Starbucks, they make a killer frappuchino after all. ;)

Seriously folks KD has simply removed the ride from their website,it may be an error & they plan on having it open for the 2008 season or it may be removed before the start of the season who knows? As of right now it's still standing & I can care less if it goes cuz I sure as heck won't miss it when it does.

The ride was a capacity & maintenance nightmare from the start that the park would certainly be better off without.

"That's a capacity issue, not an indicator of popularity"

I disagree, everytime I take anyone to Kings Dominion the person wants to ride that ride First. It's still a big draw for non-coaster nerds. I do agree capacity is always a issue with that coaster. Whatever happen to the fast pass they tried? HAve they ever ran all 3 cars before?

Batwing seems they forgot to put the new coaster on the web site for SFA... oh wait they got a Water slide. wink
