Hyper Coasters: Worth It?

"I think every coaster has its merits and its disappointments, depending on what you prefer and what you're looking for in a good ride. I don't think it's necessary to decide whether a coaster is good or not based on is it a hyper coaster or a giga coaster, just is it a good ride?

You said it the best yet!
I am in Japan right now, and I rode the Steel Dragon 2000 just a week ago. I travelled halfway around the world. It rained all day. The structure beckoned to me all day, but I was unable to ride until an hour before closing. Not only did I spend a year anticipating the coaster, but then an entire day standing in its rainy shadow, not knowing if I would get a chance to even ride it. Anticipation is the true killer. I really enjoyed it, but the best? Absolutely not. That would be the Ghostrider at KBF IMHO.
Hypers do tend to be overrated. I will ride them, though. I will ride everything if given the chance.

This happens all the time. Each person has their own reasons for liking a particular coaster. There are many types of coasters out there because we are all different and we all like different things. Some people love inverted coasters while others love woodies. My point is that there is always a battle of which coasters "suck" and which are the "best". Its all relative to the particular rider and their own tastes. It's also relative to other coasters that person has ridden and what their expectations are in regard to that coaster. Hearing that a coaster is the "best" can lead someone to expecting far too much from that coaster and can impact their opinion on that ride.

Personally, I have been on 5 hypers and I like them but they do tend to be overrated. IMO there are only a couple that aren't overrated and I prefer not to share them. I get a special thrill from them because I am afraid of heights (although not as bad as before hypers and a skycoaster). I get a rush from a 200 ft plus drop in the front seat with my hands high in the air. I also love the airtime whether it's ejector or floater. But that's just me.

LM: Truer words have n'er been spoken! I still think that is the reason I didnt LOVE The Incredible Hulk Coaster @ IOA. I had read months and months of praise for the ride. I was really expecting a revolutionary experience. What I got was a good ride, nothing more. On the flipside, I hadnt heard *too* much about dueling Dragons other than the dueling aspect. Nobody told me about the great airtime hill on Fire. Consequently, I was pleasantly suprised and enjoyed the coaster so much more.

I think you get better air time on MF The Closer you get to the front. There is ALOT of airtime on the coaster it is a long sustained air time not your usual lift your butt out the seat for 1-2 sec airtime. especially over the 3rd & 6th hill and the little bunny hop right out the tunnel. MF
is not a bucking bronco coaster but a graceful speed coaster.

Roller coaster of Love ~ ooi ~ ooi ~ ooi
As I said last week, everyone experiences rides differently. We have different bodies, different tolerances, and most importantly, different minds. Telling someone else that coaster X they like sucks in comparison to coaster Y is really immature. As for the topic, I've loved every hyper I've been on (5 to date), and they're all different from each other.
