I am a teen that has never drank or smoke, let me say that first.
I personally don't have a respitory problem, but a girl I used to work with, she went to sfohio she had to leave the BKF line because she couldn't breathe. She is a little 5'2 figure skater, she can't stand up to anyone.
When I was up at Darien this summer, the park offered beer in a 44 oz. cup. If my math is right that is about 4 cans of beer. That isn't that bad, the worst part is for about $3 bucks they offer a refill of it. With a refill that is over 7 cans of beer. That is absolute nuts. I also rode S:ROS at night and saw an overflowing garbage can with a glass beer bottle on the top because it wouldn't fit. They probably had to bring them for the campground and there is no limit on that beer.
Cancer Merchant! Cancer Merchant! Cancer Merchant! ::throws cigarettes::
sorry, Clerks flashback.
I'm a non-smoker, but I'm friends with smokers. I don't think any less of them, but I also don't allow them to smoke around me. if they're in my car I will and have thrown their cigarettes out the window. if I see someone in line I ask them to please put it out. most respect the rules enough to follow them. those that continue to smoke get a fist in the face.

Figaro: First off, you can question my intelligence all you want, but no one can definitively say that anyone's occasional exposure to queue line smoking is deterimental to long term health.
Someone says that cigarette smoke can touch off an asthma attack. Having several friends/family members who are asthmatics I can attest that smoke doesnt *necessarily* cause attacks as a friend of mine who regularly uses his inhaler also frequents niteclubs which are a much more smoky environment than a queue line. Futhermore, pollen, perfumes, hairsprays etc can all set off attacks as well. I guess these have to go too.
And please dont quote me another study that generally says exposure to second-hand smoke causes cancer. My ex was a biology major and I've seen how they conduct those studies. Thet lock a bunch of rats in a little glass/plastic box and blow smoke on them for hours on end everyday. That is a far cry from the amount of 2nd hand smoke one would inhale in a queue line.
It is my belief that people are more scared of smoke than is really needed. YES it is better to not smoke, but there is no proof that sporadic haphazzard exposure to 2nd hand smoke significantly increases one's risk for lung cancer, emphysema, etc. (If such a study does exist, I would be glad to consider it). I would even go as far as to theorize that the time you spend out in the sun at a park increases your risk for skin cancer more significantly than the 2nd hand smoke does for the associated diseases.
Now I am all for playing by the rules. I *DO* think that people shouldnt be smoking in line (though you and I disagree on the whole midway issue, I think there you are going too far). But when I say I'm for playing by the rules, that means all the rules; including those set by the state/federal governments (assault & battery, see coasterjedi's "fist in the face" post). If that is the attitude that people want to take, then I weep for them. For there will be a lot of hurt in their future.
My point, there are ways for doing everything, violence, whether real or fantasized is damaging and is to be avoided at all costs.

--who, for the record, is a rocket scientist by training...
My whole point was to come up with another way of stopping Line Smoking! Whether or not second hand smoke causes cancer is irrelevant. The point is smoking is not allowed in line. I should not have to inhale someone else's smoke. I don't smoke, if someone else does then they need to do it where it won't cause me to inhale their smoke. That and the fact that people still smoke in line when they aren't supposed to!!!! Don't tell me that they don't know that they aren't supposed to, they all hide their smokes. I don't know how smart you are nor do I care. I used to be a rocket scientist too, but that is irrelevant too. All that matters is how to get line smoking stopped.
All of you militant, ignorant anti-smokers need to calm down. As said in a previous post, I don't smoke, and it really doesn't bother me if others smoke at theme parks. Nothing makes me angrier than Coasterjedi's "Fist in Face" post. Posts like that and the one where one member said, " He farts on smokers to give them a taste of their own medicine.." show the people who follow pointless studies where lab rats are subjected to hazardous levels of concentrated smoke. Handle it like a gentleman or gentlewoman and just say, " Excuse me sir/ma'am, could you please put out your cigarette? Thank You." That is all, you don't have to act like a grade-school child and put it out with water guns, you don't have to fart on them, yo don't even have to tell park security, just ask them nicely, and I'm more than positive they'll do it for you. As for alot of people, if Ignorance is Bliss, then you are pretty happy..(you know who you are..)
Figaro, will you be my friend? *ends sarcasm*

Your an aero engineer too? Cool, dont meet to many of those during my everyday passings.
If you hadnt noticed, many of the replies to this thread have referenced being anti-line smoking primarily because of the health concerns, not so much it being a policy issue. As a purely policy issue, we're on the same side of the fence.
If you want a suggestion on how to reduce the frequency of line smoking. I'll give the answer I give for most things. Start at home. Make sure people in your family dont smoke. Then get your friends not to smoke. Then get your friends, to get *their* friends not to smoke (ad nauseum). Sorry, I cannot give a quick fix. But I do believe that a violent reaction will only exacerbate the situation.
take care dude!

UUUUmmmm Mindbeder04 are you also 2hostyl? You just don't get it do you? Whether smoke bothers you or not doesn't matter! Its against the rules to smoke in line! That also means that I should not have to ask someone to not do what they aren't supposed to be doing!!! It's the parks responsibility to enforce that rule and patrons responsibility to obey it. Yeah I am soooo Militant! Follow the rules please that's all I ask. Would I be militant if I were complaining about line jumpers?
2Hostyl and Mindbender04: you'll notice that before I said I'd punch them I'd ask them politly to put it out. most people do. but when they don't, that's when I get a little pissed. I work at a gas dock in a harbor and people come up all the time smoking. I ask them to put it out. all but one so far has. that one I was yelling at until she put it out. granted that there aren't many flamable elements in ride lines, but it is a fire hazard and there are some people who are severely allergic to cigarette smoke, one being a friend of mine. if he inhales smoke, he has to go to the hospital. now I know that the people in line don't know that, but if I ask them to put it out and they don't I get a little peeved. its common flerking courtesy to put out a cigarette when asked and when someone doesn't violence is a last resort. I have yet to actually hit someone, but I won't hesitate if it comes to that.

Yes...You would be militant. Park security, if they are doing a good job, will catch line jumpers. At least at SFoG they do, every line jumper is caught, why? Because SFoG has a park security employee in every Que line.
Also...
Figaro, are you a newbie to coasterbuzz? I think so, you could tell if I was 2Hostyl by looking at my Info...there you will see that I only have 300+ posts and 2Hostyl has 1000+.
Now, Now, Coasterjedi, Violence is never a answer. You did a good thing by asking them politely to put it out, and in all but one case (is that right?) you had to further convince. See, there's proof that most people who smoke are sensitive to others around them...

2Hostyl is his own man and no one in his right mind would want to try and be him.
But as far as not getting it, 2hostyl notes that in each post 2Hostyl has advocated enforcement of the policy as 2Hostyl thinks park policies enhance the enjoyment of everyone
...except that silly Cedar Point notion of keeping your hands down on Millennium Force as that's just nonsense (heheheeh :))

Oh my heavens!!! I am a newbie! That means that it isn't possible for one person to sign up for two different accounts with different profiles!!! Its obvious now from a post from 2hostyl that you are not him. So sorry to have posed such a question when two people both used the term militant. Wow by asking that people simply obey the rules of the park I am militant! Guess I should suit up in my storm trooper gear now! You know what? Very few parks have security at every line!! You have not posed a single viable reason as to why its wrong to ask that people obey the rules and not smoke! Its a RULE!!! Neither security or another patron should have to tell anyone not to do it!!!!
Whee...Storm Trooper!
