How to ride forward coasters backwards

I say to each his own....stupid...wrong....maniacs...stupid stunts

Unless you can point at a specific incident of serious injury caused particularly by caused by someone sitting in their seat but facing backwards, you have no point. Don't whine about 'stiff' or 'sore'--I can bang my knees all day on CE riding face-forward.

And if you're actually saying 'to each his own', what's the deal with all the name-calling?

Of course, someone with two faces doesn't need to turn around to look behind them....

Actually, I can name a couple of instances of this happening as my brother used to work at a park and I asked him about it before I even posted. . It didn't make the news, so I guess it didn't happen.

Name calling? I was saying their actions were stupid, no the people themselves. Get over yourself.

Next time you visit a park show that riding backwards junk to your kids. I'm sure you'll be very proud of yourself. If you're that confident it's so safe let them try it.

NOT!

You can have her try to jump on my neck all you want... I'll probably just collapse the first time... No matter what, the two instances are in no way comprable. No matter how much she weighs, and no matter how much that weight is multiplied by the act of jumping, it's still just one, momentary force. Doing what you're doing is subjecting yourself to multiple forces for prolonged preiods of time (more than mere miliseconds). Plus, your spine isn't already under the strain of twisting itself (most of the time, I would assume).

By the way, I am settled down: I just want you people to understand exactly where I'm coming from. And that's only because I don't want to see anyone get hurt on a roller coaster, or anywhere else, for that matter.

Um please don't do this on a coaster, because I fear then that critics would have more fuel to support their pro-horsecollar/OTSR arguments (and the uglier ones, like the restraints on PP). I hate those things except when unquestionably necessary (e.g. Wicked Twister and most inverted coasters).
I do this all the time on Wild Thing at VF. It only works on non-looping coasters, but I always keep one hand on the seat in front me or the handlebar to make sure I have a good grip. I ride in the very back seat, and turn around (not all the way around) and watch the ride backwards. It's AWESOME and for some reason it seems to enhance the airtime feeling. It does seem unsafe, but I always make sure I have a good grip and position, and test it out on the lift hill. I would suggest trying it, but only if you have a good grip, and a good ride to try it on (i.e., morgan hypers)

Exactly. And if you must know, CBaby and I have both been enjoying the view for about three seasons now.

As far as injuries....she took a padded restraint bar hard to the chest on the much VF's much smaller flume, got beat to a pulp on the Beast (URC II ERT) and got banged around on CP's MS. In seven years, that's about it.

Why would anyone bother looking backwards on a coaster that provided a challenging and astounding ride while looking straight ahead? Nobody. Apply a little brainpower here, okayyy? Pop a Ritalin and think it over. Who'd turn around and look back on a ride unless they had been on it so many times that it was getting a little stale? By that time, you're well aware of what element comes where. Duh.

CoastaPlaya: I have quite alot of brainpower, okayyy? *wink* Just because some of us don't necessarily agree with your position doesn't mean the absence of intelligence on the other side of the fence. Goodness, you're a bit harsh ;-).

Wow. I have ridden on coaster backwards many times. Am I hurt? No. Does it really matter? No. Try it sometime, its a very awesome sensation.

And for Alf, I too work at an amusement park, and my user name indicates which ride I work at. I have done it probably 65 times on BD with no problems. I cant believe you got so defensive and said you would throw him of the ride. Thats ridiculous. Oh well, thats you, not me.

I havent done it in a while since I am currently under the care of a Chiropractor because of a car accident, but when I am healed, I will of course take a Boulder Dash ride in reverse.

I'll tell you who would try this without knowing the coaster inside out: Someone reading this ridiculous post that doesn't know any better You couldn't possibly know a coaster good enough to brace yourself, to the second, of what's coming next. A half a second. That's all it takes to jar the hell out of you. Like I said, it's happened before. Period.

Now I know where the term "enthusiass" comes from. You don't see the GP thinking up such things to make "a better ride". I'm sure if a ride op saw this on camera they could start clapping up jumping up and down at this revolutionary new idea of riding coasters. Some parks may even throw a free season passs your way.

I can't wait until the next topic comes up of someone trying to restrict coasters with restraints or added safety measures because all of you advocating this riding backwards stuff will be the first ones whinning your little "enthusiasses" off about how unfair it is and how the GP's stupidity is to blame.

It only takes a half-second for someone to make a hard stop in their car, too. Doesn't take an accident to drive you into restraints in which your body position is far more critical.

Again, until you stop leaning over and looking behind you in a car with a shoulder belt--and every seat has one--you're a hypocrite.

Again, until you keep your hands on the lapbars and handles throughout the course of each and every ride--once again, you're a hypocrite. And a big one. It's against every major park's policy and you do it for the sole intent of enhnacing the experience.

You've already been proven hypocrites twice over and it's just not enough....so let me deflate your little 'points' even further.

For those who cheeked their Ritalin and didn't swallow....I 'll repeat this one more time. Read it over and over until you figure it out.

Would I look back on my favorite woodie? My 5th favorite woodie? My 5th favorite steelie? Of course not--they're far too much fun facing forward. Would I do it on Magnum? Nope. Again--enough fun facing forward. Would I do it on a Morgan with the tamest transitions known to man? Absolutely.

Your imaginary point about parks becoming more restrictive because of enthusiasses rings pretty hollow when you consider CF just had a rider die in the past year. If you actually think they'd get any more restrictive than they've already been this season, you're smoking crack.

If you're too thick to figure out what I'm saying, you're just too thick. What I do is both safe and enjoyable. Stay miserable. I gotta go dance with CBaby. I'm out.
