I have a another quick question: If i was to get around 600mb of ram and a pentium 4 processor would that run it smoothly, I dont know what the video card is yet.
If you haven't worked your way up to a Pentium 4 (or equivalent) now might be a really good time.

NOTE: Severe fecal impaction may render the above words highly debatable.
But I am about to upgrade to a new Video Card--(Nvidia 6800gt) very soon!!!! *** Edited 1/5/2005 9:54:24 PM UTC by Evolution***
My computer is a brand new Dell 4700. 2.8Ghz processor, 512MB dual channel ram and 256MB Nvidia GeForce 6800 graphics card. It's a solid computer, but nothing too crazy other than the graphics card. It may be a bit expensive to buy a high end graphics card for just RCT3, but if you are into gaming on your computer it's well worth it. I got it for No Limits mostly, but RCT too. On No Limits I get an almost constant 100FPS, where as before I was at about 20. *** Edited 1/5/2005 11:21:14 PM UTC by MrX***
For the record, I also run at an almost constant 100FPS in No Limits with the lowest I've ever seen being 40FPS (on that canyon one that's included, the name escapes me right now)
Download fraps and then this park file.
Do some tests (onride, offride, day, night, etc) and I think you'll be surprised at how much the game truly cripples your system once you see the hard numbers.

My only point was that any of the lags I've experienced have not been anything too bad. Granted I haven't built a huge park yet to really push the system to the limits, but I do have a few parks that have quite a bit going on and no problems other than minor lags.
I don't disagree that the game should've been optimized a lot more so it could run on most systems. It shouldn't only be people with top of the line graphics cards that get to really experience the game.
The FPS you mentioned for your park were with maxed settings?
Canyonrunner. :)
So I guess it there is a exspansion I sure hope they through some more theming in there!!!! *** Edited 1/6/2005 12:00:22 AM UTC by Evolution*** *** Edited 1/6/2005 12:01:01 AM UTC by Evolution***
Evo - yeah, like in the other thread, I just get bored before I finish anything meanigful. There's some intangible quality that RCT2 had that this doesn't. I mean it's essentially the same game, converted to 3D with tons of pretty added. It should be RCT2+pretty, but it's not. It's just dull.
Then... I left the game alone for a couple of weeks and tried to play it again. The framerate is still great but the sound is choppy.
I like the game a lot. It's really fun to play. But the hardware requirements are ridiculous. Especially since the minimums listed for the game are so low.
What bugs me the most though is the idea of expansion packs. I'm expecting the first one to add some scenery and rides. But mostly it will fix bugs (IMHO). They'll charge us $20 to fix a product that is clearly buggy. Then, another expansion pack with come out a few months later with even more worthless scenery. Sorry, I'm not a big scenery fan. It looks good but I'd rather have the game run well than have a new park theme.
Overall, I'm just saddened by this game. It looks great! It's just so hard (and expensive) to get it to run well. Meanwhile, I just bought Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth and it runs great on my system. Graphics, Sound, everything run just perfect.
OK, enough ranting for now.

Sounds like something you put on in the meantime is messing with things.

They're issued a free patch already with the 2nd patch coming any day now. The expansions may include patches on them, but won't be patches for profit. (IMHO :) )
it says it can't find directx 9.
That's almost certainly a vid card issue. Update your drivers and see if it helps. If not, you're probably looking at a new card.
Coaster Family, what type of processer do you have? What RAM also? Can you run the graphics on high withouth slowing down the FR?
RCT3 runs fine except for sound. I have most of the graphics at medium except for coasters and structures. Cranking everything up to the highest doesn't really slow it down much. Just a few frames per second. Honestly though, the graphics on high aren't much different than on medium. The sliders are a pain to work with. I wish you could just pick High-Medium-Low overall. Instead of tweaking each one. Blech.
I have a hunch that my sound "card" is the problem. I don't have a sound card, just the on-board chip. Since the sound is the ONLY thing that is wonky, I lean towards that.
When I switched from the 1.7 GHz Celeron to the full-blown 3.06 P4, the speed increased dramatically. On the 1.7, the game barely ran. With the 3.06, it was smooth like butter.
The sound was even great for a while. I must have installed something else that messed that up. Hopefully Patch #2 will address some of these issues.
There seem to be major issues with the combo of CPU, RAM, Video Card, and Sound Card (no one ever mentions the sound problem though).
