Their is going to show ownership. I remember how to use it because it has the word the in it
All three have the word 'the' in them.
I noticed that a while back. I am trying to make it easier for dummies to know the difference, Vater. They probably wouldn't notice that.
"Their" and "the" are interchangeable in a sentence. (The dog runs. Their dog runs.) Don't confuse the dummies. lol
That's just how my strange brain works. That's how I think about those three word to get them right. I hope it helps someone else, like Jennifer (or whatever her name is. I'm not going to click to page one to find out.)
I just want to say about that, sometimes I'll notice that I mistakenly used the wrong one when I reread something I wrote, so no one is perfect. At least this gives a simple explanation for the correct use that even dummies can understand.
Hey! Page 2! No more bold! :)

Just saying, if someone doesn't know when to use there, their, and they're, using the "the dog" vs. "their dog" isn't necessarily going to help because the same rule also applies to "there dog" and "they're dog".
Cool that it works for you, but may not work for everyone. I'm just being the annoying devil's advocate. :)
Of course, if you know the other two, process of elimination is key. But what do I know? I never have to even think about it. So their.
I don't need to stop and think about it anymore. When I first realized it was a problem or me, I made up my own rule to figure it out. I guess it wouldn't really help others the exact same way.
I see the mistake a lot on Facebook from people that I know. I wish I could come up with (or find) a magic rule that was extremely easy to remember so that they could get it right.
I give CoasterBuzz all the credit for making me better at written communication over the years. I am proudly a member of the CBALA Alumni, but I never stop learning something. (See my siggie.)

Establishing or knowing a rule that helps is one thing. The willingness to utilize it and/or actually learn correct grammar is another, something which seemingly the majority of internet users do not have, even when called out on it...as evidenced by the one who resurrected this thread.
While we're at it, a helpful, humorous guide to those confusing homophones and other frequently misspelled words (in case any of the vaguely-literate types are still browsing around).

Homophones? I thought we didn't cotton to them kind of people on this here site!

I was just about to link this. All of his grammar guides should be implemented by all users of language
My Magic Mountain parks are huge. One has over 6,000 peeps.
I found that getting rid of a lot of the original paths helped with the flow, as there are a lot of areas where the guests are just walking in circles.
I also removed the work areas of the parks handymen, and re-routed them, with one handy man doing the Goliath and Collosus exits alone, as those are the longest, and seem to generate the most garbage. I removed the X ride, and replaced it with another hyper of my own design. I also removed the original version of Goliath, and replaced it with my own design, which is more like Raging Bull.
I also removed the mine train ride, and replaced it with a wooden terrain coaster of my own design, which I called...what else? The Beast. which is close to 7,000 feet long. The only original rides in the park are Revolution. Collosus, and Ninja. Everything else is my own design. Superman was removed too, the peeps didn't seem to like in anyways, it was replaced with a twisting looping coaster with a 110 foot boomerang loop.
My park has well over 30 coasters. Including my own version of Batman the ride, which is as close to the real thing as I could get. A stand-up coaster, dive coaster, and many duplicate coasters, including and inverted terrain coaster called Nemisis. And a second suspended coaster called Iron Dragon. And, a long wooden coaster similar to Shivering timbers...plus 3 mine trains.
It's so cool. I wish someone else could see it. I think it's one of my best.
