How long before Mean Streak is gone?

I remember when me and my family stood inline the first year for Mean Streak for 3 hours and when we got off my wife said I can't beleive we waited in line for that, there was nothing to it only a real long ride through the woods.

If Mean Streak was ever removed, it should be replaced with something similar to Hershey Park's Wildcat. Maybe CP could rebuild their original Cyclone. What the heck, rebuild the Idora Park Wildcat in its place! ;) A mid-sized woodie packed with a lot of punch would be the route to go. However, I don't see MS going anywhere right now. I still ride MS on every visit to CP, and have fun on it as well. :)

I feel that the park has kinda given up on this ride. The park spends way too much $$ to keep it ruuning.

Those two comments contradict each other just a little, don't they?

LOL...that's what I was thinking, bigboy. If they've given up they wouldn't spend ANY money on it.
Well, I wonder how much trouble it would be to replace the trains on MS with GCII Millennium Flyer trains. That would help out the ride would it not?

No, it wouldnt.
Especially considering that GCI only sells Millennium Flyer trains for their own rides.
Mean Streak does WONDERS for my back, making me avoid it most of the time. It's pretty empty back there, though. A new woody probably wouldn't as much intrest as the other coasters available (though not fitting the theme as much).

A GCI would be NICE, and very welcomed. Unfortunately I don't see CP tearing down that POS (it was running as horrible as ever opening day...what's with those trims?).

I agree that whole area of the park needs a little action. There was almost NOBODY there, which is sad because there are some awesome attractions back there (the museum and the mine ride to name a few).

I guess we will see what happens. ;-)

It amazes me that they run 3 trains on that thing nearly every day of the season even though it's a walk on.

Less people on rides = More people in the midways spending money

It can still be a great ride. All they have to do is take those freaking trims off the lift hill! I rode it back in 2003 at night with the trims and lights turned off for employee ride night and the ride was un-freaking-believable. It was actually fun! There were strong laterals (comparable to The Legend) and nice air throughout the whole ride, and it made the riders go nuts. Now I know how the ride used to be, and how it could be.

The only reason for the trim brakes is for maintenance purposes. It was designed so poorly that if they were to let it run as it was meant to without trims then it shakes itself apart and the carpenters have a hell of a time fixing it in the few hours before the park opens. There is hope for Mean Streak, but I think that it would involve an entire course retrofit (or at least from the lift on) of Intamin's prefabricated track. It would be steelie smooth and it would be as intense as it was back in the day. And, yes, fun once again. I just hope that an increase in ridership would be justification enough for Cedar Point to install the new track.

It's still me, here from the beginning back in 1999. Add 1500+ posts to the number I have in the info section if you care about such things.
I do not like ms at all. I wish they do take it out but it's not gonna go anywhere. I havent been on it in like 2 years, and wont go on it again. It's boring for me to the point where I actully feel asleep on ms. I know thats hard to do because it's all at smooth. I liked sob better then ms.
I agree about the back end of the park typically being desolate (even worse is being back there on Friday nites during Halloweekends.

"Cedar Fair CEO and president Dick Kinzel said originally the park was considering a new water ride for the 2005 season, and that would have been in Frontierland. Kinzel said the park typically likes to keep water rides in one section so guests aren't walking around the park wet" (from http://www.pointbuzz.com/news.htm?id=590).

From the above quote, it seems that CP does know that the back end of the park is lacking. But do I think the MS will leave -- nope. It is pretty to look at from the Lighthouse Point cottages.

Sad that a coaster is just pleasing to eye, and not to the ride.

I see new rides going back there though before MS will ever be torn down.

If strong laterals means being slammed form side to side and shaken up and down, then yeah, MS has laterals.

Taer it down!

Eightdotthree, you need to capitalize it...like this...

TAER IT DOWN!

(lol)

I like MS. It's just so hard to get to, I see it as easy to miss or accidentally skip. When CP builds something new back there, I am sure MS will get more ridership. Look at DT.

Modifications to MS would be very welcome, but the GP probably wouldn't take notice, which means that CP probably wouldn't see it as necessary.

imho, of course.

My 11 year old friend LOVES MS; one of his favorites.

Ha ha, I guess it would be more like TAER IT DOWN!!!!!11!

The young ones always like the rougher rides, I think they have more room to move around in the PTC trains than adults do. I think thats part of the problem. We are jammed in there, divider in the middle, high sides with no where to put your outside arm confortably.

I think Mean Streak is WAY better than Blue Streak or even Gemini. When I first got on it, I admit- I was sort of surprised. It's a lot like PKI's Son of Beast, just without the loop.

Cedar Point: Best Theme Park in the World and only MINUTES from my house. Life is good.
Mean Streak is much better then Gemini. . . it's just rough. How long until it's gone? Never. They need what wood they can manage to get.

I say we just douse the whole thing in Guiness. Pints of Guiness Make You Stronger, eh? ;) [/Against Me]

Adrenaline Whore.

I have no clue as to what they should do with MS. You have two sides to the argument, and they are both good arguments.

Tear Mean Streak: The reasons are there. It has very low ridership, and it costs tons of moneyto maintain. Most people wouldn't even recognize it being gone. It's not a main attraction, or it doesn't have that classic feel like BS or Gemini does. Plus most people don't like, it's slow, rough, and boring to most. Plus it's way in the back of the park where the are hardly any other rides.

Keep Mean Streak: Probably the most important point on either side, to have the world record. It's huge to be able to market that little line. It is only one of two woodies at the park, but at this point, I don't think that matters to CF. Plus it is a gorgeous coaster, and it does have its fans (few and far between). Even though it doesn't have too many riders, it does help trim down the lines (extremely slightly) for TTD and MF.

I wouldn't count on it being tore down unless they replaced it with at least one coaster. Me personally, I don't care, I don't really ever go back there.
