How long before Mean Streak is gone?

How long before Mean Streak is taken out? I feel that the park has kinda given up on this ride. The park spends way too much $$ to keep it ruuning. Ridership is way down over the past few seasons. It doesn't really do anything for the park anymore and personally I think that the ride has the same fate that Hercules had. Hercules required much work that never really resulted in anything and Mean Streak is right there. I recall from the 2003 Coaster Mania question and answer session, that Mr. Jasper stated that it was only a matter of time till the company decided to stop putting money into it. I am just curious if the end is near. Also if they were to tear down the MS this would be the year to do it because SFMM is in the process of getting rid of Flashback. So what do you think?

Time for the yearly 'Mean Streak Prophecy of Doom' thread already?

Last year's offering

Its not going anywhere!

Thanks,
DMC

If this is the year for SFMM to remove Flashback, why does that make this the year to remove Mean Streak?
Why gonch? they made no bones about removing Herc.

However If they remove it, I'd love to see a GCI simular to Lightning Racers. A capacity eater and crowd favorite.

Chuck, who just don't see CF building wood period and thats a shame.

CF replacing a wood coaster with a wood coaster? CF replacing ANYTHING with a wood coaster? I don't think so. Too bad because CP could really benefit from a racing wood coaster. And no, Gemini doesn't count!
Like Mforcebob's signature says, "There is no such thing as a terrible coaster"

Mean Streak isn't going anywhere. It will remain at CP for years. When the park develops that area of the park, Mean Streak will become more popular. Stop this "remove Mean Streak" nonsense. CP knows what it's doing.

Apparently so. They even put trims on the first drop for a more pleasureable ride experience.

Fate is the path of least resistance.

I have always liked the ride. It was an argument that I had with a few people over the weekend (during my visit to CP) and I just wanted to see what everyone thought. I know that this topic has been discused before, I just wanted to post the question to see what everyone thinks.

the only people who could like this ride are ones who have never ridden a great woody. the thing's a huge hulking insult to wooden coasters everywhere, i'm sorry to say, because it sure is pretty to look at.
I just wish it could be made to run the way it did the first 2 seasons.....it was amazing (as well as Texas GIant, Rattler, etc)

I like MS and I have rode some considerably good wooden coasters. Examples: The Beast, Thunderhead, Lightning Racers, Legend, and Raven. Don't get me wrong, MS can be like riding a jackhammer, but so can SOB.

Now that you brought it up....when are will SOB be gone? ;)
I've gotta say, i'm not a fan of Mean Streak or its evil brother Texas Giant. Mean Streak was no fun and caused me some physical pain for the rest of the day. Texas Giant is the worst wooden roller coaster I have ever been on, actually make that worst coaster period. Some GCI's are awsome (Gwazi, Thunderhead ect.) but these two seem to take a toll for the worst year after year. I would love to see Mean Streak removed and a new wooden coaster put in back there. Isn't 14 years long enough?

Neither Mean Streak nor Texas Giant are GCI's.

The only thing I could see happening is a major renovation to Mean Streak, I'm not sure they would like it removed. I don't know what the situation with it is, but I highly doubt that Cedar Point would remove it none the less. Also, its not like they lose too much money renovoating.
I still stand by the belief that Mean Streak's days are numbered. The final decision will probably be made this year after seeing how Hydra effects Dorney, if it hasn't been made already.

The only thing in my mind that is wrong with MS is CP itself. They don't give people any real reason to go back to that end of the park outside of MS. The wild west theme is appropriate though, because even during the busiest times of the season that section is a ghost town. You'd think on hot days the water rides would liven that area up, but even then it seem dead.

By the way, MS is going nowhere!

Mean streak isn't that painful or uncomfortable but it's not that intense. It's a nice long relaxing ride. With 'some' laterals' and nice drops.

I really think CP will add a B&M flyer to Frontiertown next season and that will liven up Mean Streak.

Look at Disaster Transport? That ride always has like a 45 minute wait because of the cool rides around it. Theres not much as far as thrills in frontierland so a new ride back there would help MS.

It amazes me that they run 3 trains on that thing nearly every day of the season even though it's a walk on.

Remember the summer of 91' ? before MF, TTD, WT, Mantis, Raptor....

It was C.P.'s Second shot in the Coaster Wars after Magnum. If you wanted the baddest thrills around you waited an Hour or so for Magnum and 2-3 hours for the big new woody Mean Streak. I might I remind you that was before they put up the blue tarps for shade. I remeber sitting there in line thinking "I could stand in the middle of this and listen to it forever." The roar was incredible!

Now, its sad. Every year I get back there, ride it, and tell myself that was the last time. This has happened for like the last 5 years. But for some reason I keep riding. Even with the physical pain, for some reason I still love to ride it, even though I love to hate it.

I say let the Mean Streak live on! Please just put something else back there already!!! its long over due!!!!
