How Holiday World Could Be Improved

This will sound strange because this is a post about how Holiday World could be better. Sure, we all love the two wooden coasters out there because those wooden coasters are fantastic and I love the free drinks, but I think the park is lacking in other areas. First is the selection of flat rides. This park is considered  to be one of the country's greatest parks, but it doesn't have a Carousel. How could a park the size of Holiday World not have a Carousel? Isn't this a family park? I think a Christmas themed Carousel is needed more than a water park expansion or a new coaster at Holiday World. There is also no Ferris Wheel. It seems that a classic park like Holiday World should have a Ferris Wheel. I also think the park needs a few more spinning rides.

Onto the theme areas. Why doesn't the Halloween area have a haunted house? This should be a given for a Halloween themed section. I also think a few more Holidays could have areas. Thanksgiving would be a good theme area to have. I could just see a Pirate Ship there called the Mayflower. How about a Valentine's Day area with a Heart Flip(Frolic). Holiday World has a lot of potential and I would love to see it reach its potential. There are a lot of things that could be done with that park besides waterless urinals.

Now if there was something that could be done to make me not think of  April(an enthusiast I met when I made my first trip to HW) when I go there. That is one thing that may never improve.

While I've never been to HW, (but plan to go this upcoming season) I don't think it's a major "no-no" to not have a ferris wheel.  PKI doesn't and I can't figure out for the life of me why not.  Maybe it has something to do with the Eiffel Tower attraction or something.  Does HW have a tall observation tower-type attraction?

God please let SFKK get something in 2002. ANYTHING!!

There is no tower attraction at HW. I think it would be great if they had one. I think the view of the wooden coasters would be great from the top of one of these.

Well it sounds like you should write them a nasty letter. Or fill out a complaint card among arrival!?

Out of the coasters i've ridden here is wat i rank them overall:(ive been to canobie lake and SFNE)
1. S:RoS 2. Yankee Cannonball 3. Riverside Cyclone 4. Canobie Corkscrew 5. Thunderbolt 6. Galaxy 7. Mind Eraser 8. Dragon coaster 9. poison ivy's tangled
No, a nasty letter isn't needed. I just think HW could be even better than it is.  Like I said, the woodies are good and I love the free drinks. I also love the pizza there.

I agree. Although I love the park, it does need more "classic" rides.

Did I mention, that I like coasters...

Imagine if they got a Double Shot sort of like Indiana Beach's...they could plop it in the 4th of July section and name it M-80. Clever, eh?  :)

When I first read the title of this post, I thought who does this person think they are?  HW is a park that really seems to know what they are doing.  AFTER reading the post, I agree.  It is not a list of complaints, but a well thought out analyis of what HW needs.  A Carousel, Ferris Wheel and Haunted House would really help to round out their ride selection.

Exactly.  When I first saw the title, my reaction was "you can't improve on perfection".  However, the list of suggestions is very well-thought out.  I would especially love to see Holiday World tackle a good haunted house ride.

I am not trying to be mean to HW. I am glad that many of you understand that. I would just like to see at least some of the things I mentioned be done because these things would add a lot to the park. I like that Double Shot suggestion for  the 4th of July section. I must say I approve of what they are doing with the Legend this year. This shows that there are some things that HW needs to improve on and adding a second train to the Legend is a much needed imporvement. I hear HW can get busy sometimes.

personally if I was HW and I got a nasty letter with all that stuff in it I would me upset.  Rather, why dont you fill out a suggestion card?  It will get any possible ideas alot farther.
Yea.. don't right nasty letters.... not a good thing! (unless of course its to Six Flags about FastLane, hehe ;))

Holiday World sounds like an awesome park and I can't wait to visit. However, I think you'd be surprised at just how many parks do not have Ferris Wheels. A carousel sounds like it would be a nice addition to the park, I'm all up for it :). Hopefully I will be making my first visit in '02!

with all of the talk about a nasty letter, I thought I would once again say there is no need for a nasty letter to HW. After all, there are not six flags fkying in front of the park. I just know that if HW ever gets a looping coaser, It will be a B+M-maybe something about the size of the Vortex at Carowinds.

In don't think an e-mail OR a nasty letter is in order.  I know for a fact that the HW folks read (and even POST) here and on other coaster/park-related sites.  But, that being said, there are no "perfect" parks - HW is just as close to it as I've seen.  Good parks are always willing to hear well-considered "suggestions"...BTW, the best thing about "April" is it's the beginning of a new coaster season for those unfortunates who don't live in SoCal or FL...

Holiday World will expand in good time as they see fit. While on one hand they do have two of the best wood coasters ever built, I think that the water park is the serious draw. In fact, if you read our interview with Holiday World's Will Koch, you'll see that he credits the water park as being central to the park's growth.

Jeff,

I agree they have a nice waterpark. They do a nice job with a lot of things, but I wish there were more flat rides. I would also like a haunted house. Maybe the people from Knoebles could come in  and help on the design of a haunted house for HW.

Where it is extremely hard to market a Ferris Wheel and Carousel nowadays, it's years like this one, where they add a major waterpark attraction, where they can softly expand on a family ride.

This would have been a great year for a Chance Carousel or Chance 90' Gondela Wheel or Chance Yo-Yo ( www.rides.com ), but it was more important to add capacity on the parks major attractions rather than to add another non-major attraction

I know it is hard to market these attractions, but maybe putting in two or three attractions like this and marketing them as fun for the whole family or something like that would be effective. I could see a Ferris Wheel and a Carousel going in at Holiday World in the same year.

Hmmm. Let's see. A 36' three abreast m-g-r with reindeer instead of horses? Build the chariots like sleighs? I love it!!! What little kid (or some big ones) could resist it!
With not even a million guests a year, it's hard to invest on something that will not increase attendance by itself (i.e. ferris wheel, carousel..) but if coupled with a larger attraction/s it could be a major sucess. Although they *are* great ideas, I'm quite pleased with the Legend and Raven, and for now I can deal without a S&S Double Shot named Firecracker, a Haunted House in the Halloween area, and a Wildmouse named Rudy's Wild ride.... ;)
