How hard could it be to think before you post?

The way I see it, if it bothers you that much, you should just pack it in and call it quits. I won't lie- there are times when I get a bit bothered by debates on this site- but I move on, as do most people. The good thing about a populated site such as this is that there are plenty of discussions taking place at once, so if one isn't for you, chances are there is another one that is.

I can't believe there is so much to say regarding facts and opinions. A fact is something concrete and indisputable, like the 2007 Chevy Corvette has an engine that produces 405bhp (not sure if that figure is correct, but it's awfully close). An opinion is something that is subjective, like the Corvette is a powerful car. Maybe someone is comparing it to a Peterbilt, in which instance that person has a point.

The one thing that really irks me is when someone steps forth and says something like, "That's a stupid comparison." That's taking an opinion and turning it into something meant to insult the person that made the statement. It's all about tact and class. Sure, someone comparing the price of apples to the price of movie tickets is making a pretty weird comparison, but that doesn't necessitate referring to that as stupid. And that's an extreme example- I've never heard anyone on this site make a comparison that "odd", further supporting the fact that comments like those are probably an insight into someone's unspoken insecurities.

It's only an attack if you take it personally. "That's stupid" is still just an opinion. If it lacks "tact" or "class" then you're welcome to dispute it, but maybe you just had the wrong opinion. :);)

I guess that's why I always dispute it ;)
I've learned a lot and became more aware of things from the last few posts. It looks like everyone understands what I am talking about but not what I mean, and I can accept that. There are a few things I want to reply to. One is matt.'s view that I am stating,

"People are mean to me and they don't agree with my opinions!"

I understand that it may look like this is a self realized pity party aimed at whoring attention from coasters. It is not. I am not complaining that people rude to "ME", I am complaining that people are rude to some people that I happen to be a part of. I am using me as an example of my view of how things are around here. I simply hope that someone takes a look here and becomes more aware of the way they communicate.

(((It's not just about me.)))

Secondly, Rob says in a very nicely put post,

"The way I see it, if it bothers you that much, you should just pack it in and call it quits."

It does and maybe I should. I've contemplated it more than enough throughout the Summer. I think I've found a solution in that I let most crap slide off me without reacting when it doesn't warrant a reply. Or I wait a while and cool of a little if angered before replying.

On that note, I think that I've run out of things to say about this.

This topic is stupid. lol

Can I be the one that starts the smear campaign against you by releasing pics of you with your mohawk? ;) ;)

Well, we all know what opinions are simmilar to, and that they are full of the same thing. The conflict is what sparks debate, and in turn can create great ideas.

Keep in mind, not everone agreed on a little ole thing called independence and democracy - it took a lot of debate, name calling, and conflict, but I really like the end result.

"dexter" changed his name. I just thought it would be the right thing to do to tell everyone. Of all the years "dexter" has posted here, he has never changed his name.

So the news thread was closed. I don't want to argue anymore and Playa will have the last word if he so choses to. I am not going to argue with him anymore, or with any of you either. I'll pretty much just check the site once or twice a week to see what's new. My posts will be a few sentences from now on.

I feel if I try to explain why I feel the way I feel about any given subject on CoasterBuzz, I get told that I "feel" too much and I am being a "victem" and all that crap that is not true. Maybe there is a communication problem or something between me and some others. I am already pegged as something I am not because of who I use to be.

Maybe at one point of my life I did feel like the world was against me and I was depressed about my life, and I know a lot of my frustrations came out in my posts. I am over that and am now pretty happy now. My life's situation has improved a lot since a few years ago, but some people keep looking for a reason to believe otherwise.

Playa made it seem that I PMed him something that I didn't want anyone else to see in the news thread. That was clearly not the case because I posted the exact same thing in the thread. That's the last thing I am going to defend about myself. I find my integrity to be very important in all areas of my life, and this is the only place where I get bullied into defensive action.

I left him ONE last PM and then I never want to hear from or speak to him again. He desires me to say it out in the open so here it is.

[q]

What's your problem? We were getting along so well when we ignored each other. I never do ANYTHING to you, yet you still keep attacking me. Either you are secretly in love with me, or you have a mental problem that you need to get help for.

I never talk to you until you directly say something to me. You are the pathetic loser here because you can't take my opinion on some stupid roller coaster message board. You think that someone has no life because they post on CoasterBuzz and then you post it on CoasterBuzz. Pathetic.

Your last post in the news thread made it sound like I PMed you something that differed from what I posted. We both know that both what I messaged to you and what I posted "out in the open" was the exact same thing. It's just another way of you making me out to look bad.

I am very tired of you and your attacks on me. You are a troll.

I am a different person now. Don't ever reply to my posts again unless you can be civil. I'll offer the same respect to you.

[/q]

If Mr. Playa needs to get in the last word, he can now. I expect that he will because, just like me, he'll want to save face. Although I sometimes do not show the respect that I ask from others after being provoked, it is Playa and a few others who actually look for the opportunity to show lack of respect.

Some parrots keep reciting, "If it's not fun anymore, step away from the computer"...

Thank you everyone for a great many years on CoasterBuzz. I've learned a lot about people's differing views about the passion of my life, roller coasters. I hope that some of you learned from some of my posts as well. If we ever meet in person, you'll see how nice I really am.

I closed it because it was pointless bickering. I didn't even read the posts. I could care less what was said, or by whom. If you think it was personal or favoring someone, you've vastly over-estimated what took place.

Jeff - Editor - CoasterBuzz.com - My Blog

There's a saying of mine I use quite often...

"Life is full of simple answers.
What complicates things is our willingness to accept them."

That having been said, I won't say another word.
At best, I'd only be repeating what's already been posted in this thread months ago...

he also thinks if someone is disagreeing with his points they're personally attacking him....He can't divide the two out. He thinks if someone doesn't like his opinions they're being "disrespectful" which is essentially a product of him playing Mr. Victim every chance he gets...

Just ignore it. If all the 'victims' would just ignore the post they saw as an attack, the thread would continue as normal. Instead of posting a five paragraph response to every little comment, just ignore it.

I think that's part of the problem though, in that for some people, a Web site is most of what they look forward to.
