How do I make a text link?

Okay, I know HTML. I tried putting 2 text links in my sig, and, though I got the HTML to disappear, its still not a link. Am I doing something wrong here?

Here is how I do it.

1) Type the link name

example. Coasterbuzz.

2) Highlight the name of the link by holding down your left mouse button and dragging your mouse across the link name.

3) On the bar at the top of the post window, click the Globe with a chain link on it.

4) Type the url in the url box, make sure you leave the http://

A day at the park is what you make it!

That's if you're using IE.

If you're not use the format:
[ url="url with http" ]words to link[ /url ]

...only get rid of the spaces in the brackets (I had to put them there so it wouldn't turn it into a link).
