How did it get so popular?

Just wondering, but how in the world did your site get so popular? I am just wondering how long it's been around for, etc. Just wondering...

From non coasterbuzz affiliated person, the answer seems simple. It's the same reason all popular coaster sites are so popular. There are literally 1000s of lame coaster sites out there that take pictures off of other sites (like joyrides and coastergallery) and copy news from screamscape/Cbuzz, and throw it together with insight like "This coaster is kewl!" The succesful sites seemed to start by recognizing something that hadn't been explored or exploited to it's fullest potential and starting there. After finding the direction they filled it with original content. Take Cbuzz, screamscape, Joyrides, RCDB, Coastergallery, for example. Each one has a distinct niche and offers something no other site can.

My advice to anyone who wants to make a stand out site is find something that hasn't been done yet, fill it with original content/images, and you're good to go!

The reason I keep checking this site is because it has the most up to date news section. Very important.

Yes, this is the true reason for the success of the Buzz. Sure, CoasterBuzz forums are better moderated and faster running than other forums, but how did people know that at first? Jeff knows how to filter out the bad news submissions and keep the good submissions rolling in. Its just like the title says: "Portal to the Thrill". When I learn about new coaster headlines or new updates on other coaster sites, its usually from here.

I check this site often, mainly for the forums. Far and above, the best coaster forum on the web. No garbage, no wacky speculation, no polls or silly "Survivor" games. And when that stuff comes up, its snuffed out asap.

I'm talking about in the beginning....when the site was first put up....how did the word get spread around?

I like this site because it has the latest news, most members(so best forums), info and almost any coaster/park, and park reviews. It has everything besides pictures, but that has been explained. I believe it started sometime in 99 or 00, but I am not sure of that. I think this site was one of the first coaster sites with forums and this much information, and up to date news. That is how it got so popular. It "paved" the way for other sites.

Well, over 2 1/2 years ago, I was getting a little need for coaster information. I didn't know that I would become an enthusiast during that winter, but I searched for Cedar Point at Yahoo. It sent me to a very early version of Coasterbuzz, as well as a link to GTTP. I joined GTTP right away, and then Coasterbuzz a few months later.

I literally think that this is one of the greatest sites out there. One reason is that the members contribute such good content, the moderation is great, and the rules are cut and dry. Sure there may be trolls and whiners every once in a while, but they usually get tied of hearing themselves.

Jeff himself knows what he is doing, you can see all of the programming experience he has from his resume, and he is very professional about content on his site. Also, at enthusiast events, people exchange screen names or tell others that haven't logged on here before.

Also with the rise in coasters being built right around the inception of this site, many people wanted to know more information about the rides being built around them. What better way to find it out than searching for "roller coasters" at Yahoo.

There are many reasons that have contributed to the success and renown of Coasterbuzz, and these are just a few.

The site went live January 31, 2000. It's as popular as it is because the audience "owns" it, as far as content goes. I've learned a thing or two over the years about growing an audience, and it has little to do with me.

The forums are heavily moderated, and even though you hear constant complaining about that, the results speak for themselves. If you leave the quality of conversation up to the world at large, the pointless element creeps in.

How long did it take to build the site?

Jeff, just wondering but when the site went live on January 31st, 2000. What was the very first topic in the general buzz?

-----------------
Wild Thing: 75Laps! Power Tower: 73 Rides. Valleyair Security 2002! 8Years Working at Valleyfair :)!

It was probably this one.

Hmmm, interesting how the quote in this message wasn't edited out as a needless quote.

No, you just assume that I have enough time to go over hundreds of posts a day with a fine tooth comb.

That website is great. I typed in my site and it had mine cached as well. Pretty cool to look at the Coasterbuzz news and rumors for those dates.
