I know this isn't a democracy, but my vote would be for a Trip Advice forum.
Remember when I was asking around about places near Knott's for Solace? The online trip advisors rated the Crescent as better than average (I forget the exact rating) and almost booked, but I decided to ask here first. The overwhelming majority said it was horrible. By contrast, the Days in was rated a 3/10, with very negative comments. There were no negative comments posted in my thread, so I decided to give it a shot for $25/night (and actually got Tekno to switch his reservations for that part of his trip). I didn't spend much time in the room, but I had a pleasant experience, great rates, and was overall very happy with my stay. From what I heard from Tekno, he had a good stay as well.
Moral of the story: The trip planner sites are a good way to start out, but I think it'd be good to have a place to say "hey, I'm going to [park] and was looking at [list of hotels], what are your comments?"
Especially since I trust [most of ;)] you more than I trust random travellers.
Yes the questions about attendance are annoying, and I could certainly live without those too. But is this not a discussion board? A place for people to discuss amusements park? A big part of that is planning the trip and hearing what other people think. We all get excited before and going on a trip and want to know as much as possible in order to make the most of the moment.
Why in the world in the world would someone who is looking for information about a park, coaster, ride, trip or anything else remotely related to amusements park go somewhere else first?
The former is accepted, and would be the use of such a trip advice forum. The latter is unaccepted, and probably would be most of what would be in said forum and thus why many people are against such an idea.
Why would you go anywhere else first? Because you're going to take an AIRPLANE and/or RENTAL CAR, and sleep in a HOTEL. You are not going to take Millenium Force from your house to cedar point and sleep in Disaster Transport (though that might be fun! :) )
I still don't understand why people need help in booking the other aspects of their trips (the aforementioned hotel/rental car/plane ticket trifecta) - for me that's the easiest part of trip planning. In fact, getting all of those services are among the easiest thing to do online period.
When we do trips, I find the hardest part is deciding where (and even more so, where not) to go. That's where the info from other enthuisiasts is searched for and appeciated.
Quite frankly, I don't want you guys suggesting travel arrangements for me. ;)
...oh, nevermind, now I know what you meant. ;)
Gonch is just too afraid I'll rub off on him. He's also afraid Moosh will just rup on him.
If there was a Trip Advice forum it would rid the General Forum of all those stupid, nagging questions. Then all one needs to do is never read the Trip Advice forum and never be bothered with it all.
I'm all for it! ;)
