...what im talking about is to me and alot of people I know who go to and enjoy parks(so im including some "GP"), park maps and guides that come with them become free park souvenirs especially if it is a new park for them. Something to take home with you to remember your visit later
That's an interesting angle and one I don't think anyone touched on.
This map design isn't exactly the sort of thing that enables you to pull it out and share your experience with the uninitiated.
"First we rode the purple oval, then we ran over here and got two rides on the blue rectangle..." ;)

I am a fan of the cartoony maps, if only because they look wonderful framed and hung on a wall.
I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead

That would get rid of any clutter from the words and keep the stylin map as well.
"Would you like to buy a photo of you boys enjoying the Line Ride?"
The new park map is very ugly, and is something I'd used to navigate the mall, or an airport, not an amusement park. Yeah, it's helpful if the map makes it easy to navigate from one place to another, but the map is very stale, and far too simplizied. If I'd never heard of Holiday World, and went there for the first time, I'd probably find this map completely useless, since I have no idea what Paul Revere's Midnight Ride is from the picture, same with many of the other flat rides on the map. A circle means what now?
A 2D picture by far would have been better, I would expect most to toss this map in a trash bin, since it doesn't really go into any real detail. You are better off just wandering around finding things for yourself.
Leave this map for the city planning commission, and give me a cartoonish map, that gives a picture description of the rides. Imo, it's far more useful, even if it isn't 100% accurate.
Anyway, a park map isn't gonna make or break any decision of mine to go to a park (as it shouldn't to any), but I do feel they should bring back the map of old, or have someone else draw up the park map for 2007.
The reason the SFEG map, and as another example, the SFA map work so well is that the greenspace is dark and solid. Since it's simple and consistent, it's not distracting.
If the new map can help people move around easier then I stand behind the decision, but I think it only makes moving around the park more difficult for those that haven't visited the little town of Santa Claus.
