Holiday World attendance up 10% over last year

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

This summer’s heat wave has meant sizzling business for Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari whose water park, one of the five largest in the world, has been crowded. The park’s overall attendance is running more than 10 percent ahead of last year’s record pace of 1,039,000 customers, according to park general manager Matt Eckert.

^^Based on a recent TR, GAdv has some sort of VQ implementation at Hurricane Harbor.

If you read that TR, the VQ implication is a bit misleading. No one is managing lines. It's more like "upcharge" has hit the water park.

Well, but the point Gonch made wasn't that the park isn't or can't be up to the challenge, more so that often parks get a bad rep for having long lines and traffic even when the park can't really help it.

Very true man. Very true

And I've even refrained from finding and linking some old post and saying "I told you so" in regards to the perception of lines and prices and such at the 'darling' smaller parks as they grow. :)

LOL, that WAS a little spooky.

Or, for South Park fans, Moosh and I are now available in Barbra Streisand's "SpookyVision". ;)

I doubt we'll see a Holiday World run by someone else for a long time.

Alot of us thought the same thing about Knott's and Michigan's Adventure, but now they are a part of CF.

My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.

Wait, so both you and crazy horse are gator? I can't keep all these doppelgangers straight.

My sister and I visited Holiday World at the end of July on one of those >90 degree days and it was hot and the lines were long, but we had a lot of fun anyway. I knew it was going to be hot and crowded because it's summertime in the midwest. Wildebeast was well worth the 1.5 hour long wait.

VQ would make the lines much longer, not shorter. When will you all ever learn? ;)

I was going to finally get out there to HW this Spring, but didn't make it. Now it's on the agenda for this Fall instead. It nice to see that they understand that the best way to combat long lines is to build more attractions for you customers to enjoy.

I'm not surprised their attendance is up so much this year. I went a few weeks ago and had no idea their overflow lot was so big until I had to park in the back of it. With a heat index of 109, there were consistent 5 minute waits just for the Pepsi Oasis. We got lucky and found some 15 minute lines on Raven and Legend shortly after lunch when the water park was jam packed, but Voyage was close to an hour all day. It was still a really fun day though, even if the ride count was a little disappointing.

I suspect the closing of SFKK has had at least a little bit of an impact on inflating HW's attendance this year.

Yeah, but the Knott's Family didn't own the entire town and every attraction in it. I'm not saying it won't happen, but I don't see it happening for a while. Not with the current family in place, who are all still young enough and able to run the place for quite some time. And they seem willing to do so.

Yeah that's about how long the line was when we went at the end Of June For Wildebeest
