Holiday World announces new for 2005 attractions

I feel the same way... part of the beauty of HW is the way it is spread out. I'm just saying that acreage, while important, isn't always an indication of what a park will be able to do in the future. Many parks that appear to be running out of room within their current boundaries (Hershey and Kennywood come to mind) still manage to expand while maintaining their charm. I'd imagine that the situation is the same, or will be the same, with HW.
The only problem I can see about the 100+ acres that HW sits on is the fact that SS has made HW sort of land locked. They really can't expand Christmas as there is a road there and then due to the location of Raven and Legend, it would be difficult to expand that way and so on. Sure they can double the waterpark, but is that all they want to be? That's the point that some of them were trying to make.

Swoosh,
If anyone can figure themselves out of a jam it is Holiday World. I am sure if they had to develop the theme park side of the business more then they could probably do one or more of the following:

A) Move the picnic pavilions somewhere else in the park. This would open up an area for a new midway, new land, etc. This also would allow the main park to make a horshoe around the waterpark section. This could be rather interesting as far as rides go.

B) Move the existing parking lot to other side of the road where the current overflow parking exists. They could in effect move the gates slightly and in effect open up the area that is the main parking lot for expansion. Again this could be rather interesting as it will open up a new area with access to Lake Rudolph and the area around the Raven. This also could allow an expansion of the Christmas section of the park.

C) They could move some of the slides located in Splashin Safari elsewhere in the waterpark in order to make room for an expansion of the main theme park. Though this would leave them with what I think is smallest acreage of possiblities.

D) Open a new section of themepark that you have to go through the waterpark to get. While I personally doubt this option will be used as it will landlock the waterpark, among other reasons why I would not expect that option to be used.

I am sure other people could come up with more ideas.

I'm sure they know what they're doing.
Oh I am sure they know what they are doing as well, I just think they need to do something about expanding the actual ride park soon.

I remember reading it back then and chuckling...as the decision had already been made at that point (if memory serves...).

You're always an inspiration.... :)

Aw, shucks! :D
Hey Rob, Way back when they were building Raven I got to see a couple of the plans, They had different layouts, and one had a helix at the end. In fact it was the layout you see today but add a double helix to the end.
Interesting. Maybe that's why the double helix was incorporated into the design of the Legend? I would love to have seen those "alternate" plans!
I never did get to see the blueprints for Raven, I don't even think they had them at CCI when it was auctioned, I could be wrong and they could be safe in the museum archives with most of the rest of their blueprints.

I did get to see the prints for most of CCI's coaster and these were final designs aparently because there were no options.

As I understand it, Ravens plans were altered several times before the final solution, Some was based on cost, some landscape and to include as many known thrills a woodie can have in the space and price range they could do it.

All I can say is, IT WORKED!

Chuck

Rob you could say that, Yeah one of the plans had the lake turn way up in the air and it was sugested to run it along the lake. Mostly they had a tight budget for that year and they drop they helix. *** Edited 10/13/2004 6:33:41 PM UTC by cycloneriders***
Yeah, you could say it worked moderately well! ;)
Hey Charles I did get to see many plans from CCI due that I met many of the people personal(Dennise,Denise Mcnulty, and others). I even got to ride Raven after they got there state ok to run the ride, during there testing phase. *** Edited 10/13/2004 6:34:47 PM UTC by cycloneriders***

Actually, it wasn't budget. The durn thing just wouldn't fit where we wanted the ride to go. Will had a helix on the "wish list" he gave CCI, but it was decided early on that a helix would have to wait for a future coaster.

The lake turn was originally higher...and the 5th hill drop was not so deep in the early versions. The "s" curve was Will's idea--to save a bunch of trees.

That was 10 years ago -- it's a wonder we remember anything! :)

Care to share with us what ideas from the Legend were put in reserve for a future project? ;)

One last question, Understanding there is no SRM and the reasons behind it. Does that go for all enthusiast events or gatherings at HW for 2005? Or has that decision been made yet?

We don't plan to host any enthusiast events in 2005.

The special rate for card-carrying coaster club members in 2005 is $20.95 for general admission and $74.95 for a season pass.

Thanks, Paula
