You guys need to chill out. Yes grammar and english is important(I go to an academy, I would know), but it is not important in forums like this. If you make small grammar and spelling mistakes, who cares. As long as you understand what they are saying. People have busy lives. Waisting it on writing proper grammar in forums is stupid. I type fast and if I make a mistake, well, O well. If I notice it later, I may change it, but im not gonna waste my time checking it over and crap. I don't have alot of time. Anyways, they have done a study at some university and they concluded that it doesn't matter how words are spelled, as long as there are roughly the same amount of letters in them and the first and last letters are the same. I cna't reemeber teh site, btu yuo can chcek it uot laetr. Jsut do a saerch.

Exactly. So earn your thoughts some respect and type them coherently so other can understand, and in turn, respect them. You'll earn little respect typing like a third grader.

And just because I feel like twisting the knife while it's in there:

'You agree to use proper grammar and spelling in the forums.'

Technically, that line is in this site's terms of service which you agree to when signing up for an account.

Overlooked typos are one thing. Disrespect for communication is another. AOL speak should carry a death penalty.

I don't think any one in here doesn't know how to properly write. I think its a matter of making typing mistakes, typing fast, not paying attention to spelling, etc. We don't post here to have our writing skills evaluated, we post here to share our ideas and concepts. Enough with this, "you earn respect through your coherently understood, grammatically correct writing. Chill out.

But other users are supposed to have the time to decipher your typing? Wow!

Imagine how much slower your learning at that academy would be if all your textbooks were typed like the last line in the above quote.

You think you're short on time now? It'd take twice as long to learn half as much. *** Edited 2/2/2004 7:03:22 PM UTC by Lord Gonchar***

I believe you are saying we should show respect to the boards (and it's members) by typing like pros and watching our spelling, but I still say it's blown way out of proportion

An important point to be made, however, is a forum such as this is of interest to people of varying ages. So perhaps when someone seems to be "typing like a third grader," they may just be a third grader.

Cut people some slack. This is a site dedicated to having fun (at least I thought it was.) So don't rain on someone's parade when they simply are excited about a coaster and take the initiative to post something about it.

The problems of the world have little to do with proper or improper grammar... rather hurtful attitudes and comments made to insult others.

Your missing my point. Im not saying people should try to write grammatically right and cohesive stuff. My point is, if some one makes a mistake or doesn't notice something because they are typing fast, who cares. You understood what he said, did you not. You still ready just as fast that his mispelled resturant was supposed to be restaurant. Chill out. If someone makes a mistake, don't kill them. This isn't a paper.
Well Gonch properly typed opinions don't always get respect - heck a bunch of the opinions in the big old SFI thread right now are well-typed, but they completely lack something ... wait, let me put my finger on it ... yea, logic and reality.

Then again, I could be an argument against it too - I type as well as I know how (obviously by my mispelling of that "g" word) and most of my posts still get ignored ;)

Nowhere in there does it say you will be ridiculed if you use improper grammar or misspell a word.

Ridicule for such a minor thing as this should also be punishable by death.

Agreed Shaggy, but a few points:

1. You have to be 13 to sign up for CB. 13 year old third graders? Maybe that explains the attitudes towards proper grammar? ;)

2. I said it above. Typos are one thing. I do it myself. You get typing quickly, ideas flowing and a few things go goofy. However, it's the attitude of a certain segment who just doesn't care. How can someone expect me to care enough to be respectful and hold meaningful "conversation" if they don't care enough about their ideas to make sure they're conveyed in an understandable manner?

Sure, some people seem to live for jumping on a misspeller around here (note that I never have :) ), but I understand the frustration of those folks.

Thank you Shaggy!

I couldn't have said it any better!

Everyone's ideas and opinions count, whether or not they can express it "properly". Bashing them just makes them leave, or not participate.

And that's not what I'm debating. If you can find one instance on this site (or any) where I ridicule someone for misspelling, please prove me wrong.

I have a problem with the "it doesn't matter" attitude. Because, quite frankly, it does matter.

EDIT - see I made a typo in this :)

I apologize for using my "you" as a blanket for everyone. Looking back I see you jumped into the fray after the people who did the insulting.

My point is just what do people gain by instulting others?

Lead by example
Educate, don't bash
Treat others as you would like to be treated.

Where have I heard that one before?

Toeveck retorted:

Actually I probably will move along, I was just browsing anyway and had to put in my 2 cents worth...

I thought you were leaving....

Anyway, where is Chad? It seems like there is bickering and the perpetrator doesn't even give a ****. In reponse to your original post, we are all also very excited about Hershey's new coaster...yay...and junk!

I'll leave when I'm ready to leave (or at 3:30 when I leave work)

After the smart remarks about his post (that started all this fun) he probably left for good.

WTF is wrong with you guys? Have you lost it? There is a reason why short hand and "AOL" speak was made. Lets see, amm, was it for shortening what one had to write while conveying the same idea/ understanding. Again I must say, if someone makes a few spelling/grammer mistakes, writes a bit of shorthand, and such, how is that in any way bad. That would be bad on a transcript or college aplication, but correct me if im wrong on this, but this is JUST a forum were people get together to talk about the stuff they like. I seem to not see where all this negitivity is coming. If you have nothing better to do than sit around ridiculing people for minor spelling and grammar mistakes they make, then I have two things to say to you. 1. Get a job, do work, just stop waisting your time and use it in a good fashion. 2. Go see a psychologist and go to anger management class, because you seem to be enjoying make fun of people for stupid things and blow it out of proportion. o ya, you need some weed man to calm you down because your just off the wall! (jk)
And about that aol short hand, I dont know about you, but I read aol shorthand faster than fully written out stuff. Like nm b/w and all that type of stuff, I think its alot faster to read than the whole written out word. So please show me were the translating and lack of concept comes into play. *** Edited 2/2/2004 8:20:13 PM UTC by Millenium Force29*** *** Edited 2/2/2004 8:20:58 PM UTC by Millenium Force29***

Millennium Force29,

Take a look at you last post, the look at Toveck1's.

You're both arguing the same side, but his post is easier to read without a doubt (I'm sure just about everyone would agree) - that's where translation and lack of concept come into play.

His posts get read and considered - I skipped half of yours and walked away from my monitor to get my eyes refocused.

The very fact that you posted that way and feel it's even remotely acceptable or that anyone will read it just as well as a properly formatted post gives me little hope - for just about everything in life.

Lord Gonchar, let me change my thought. Your not fustrated with peoples badly written posts, your just a retard. (jk)
