Are we talking about the same theater? I thought this was replacing the one where the seals were. Isn't the big amphitheater on the other side of the park, or am I misremembering?

You’re thinking of this one I believe, which is the only one I remember going to as a kid. I haven’t set foot in it as an adult and usually forget about it. The other one that’s being demolished (due south) I don’t even remember, in fact I don’t think I ever noticed it until this thread and I’ve been going to the park since 1980. That’s an indication that I’m extremely non-observant, but also that I just don’t care about seeing shows at amusement parks.

I can think of a handful of amusement park amphitheaters that have been put to rest

There has definitely been a shift away from live entertainment shows in the regional parks. Not sure why? Too expensive?

feels like they mainly do the live shows as part of the seasonal entertainment like Halloween and Christmas

I’d imagine that it’s just gotten too expensive for the return and they don’t need to pump attendance like that anymore. Bands at that level have a lot more opportunities now and charge accordingly. I happened to catch Gin Blossoms at Hershey YEARS ago. I looked them up and they charge $45-75k, then you have to have people to get them loaded in, run sound, etc. Are they going to sell enough kettle corn to make that worth it?

OK, thanks for the clarification. I also never knew this was here and have been going to the park since the early 90s.

Hi

Sharpel007:

I curious to see if it worked out for Carowinds… We shall se if back next season.

I was at Carowinds for the weekend that Skillet/10 Years and Sugar Ray/Better Than Ezra/ Tonic played

Both nights the pavilion was over 1/2 full and the park was pretty busy.

Watch the tram car please....
