^ Yeah. I will just drive for 6 and half hours to get on a coaster. (sarcasm)
I suggest you move then, I have 4 parks (SFA, BGE, PKD, and HP) within a two hour radius ;)

However, I do have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the overall contest winner.
So the kid won. Great! I'm not even mad that I personally did not win a prize. My problem is that while a majority of those 1500+ entries were most likely crap, that I can pretty much guarantee that more than a handful in each age group were done by seasoned RCT players and were much better entries (based on the judging criteria, not personal opinion) than the Grand Prize winner.
Oh how I'd love to see the scoresheets the judges used.
(In my best Comic Book Guy voice): Worst...contest...ever!
(In my best Homer Simpson voice): Mmmmmm - peanut butter.
But the packaging in the photo of the candy says, "pretzels - caramel - peanuts - peanut butter - milk chocolate" along the bottom.
I'm not up on the 'new' candy. I'm strictly old-school with my sweets. :)
"It's an outstanding design. I think this young man may one day be a future roller coaster designer," said Andy Jacobs of the Hershey Company.
Hang with me for this story... it could take a while...
A few years ago the Hershey Bears home hockey schedule consisted of mainly Wednesday and Saturday night home games. They offered a Full season plan and a weekend plan. The full season plan was at a discounted rate for each seat (something like 75% of face value) and the Weekend plan was at face value. Full Season cost about 50% more than a weekend plan (i.e. half season) (instead of double). Anyway, as the years went on, more and more sunday games were scheduled and less and less wednesday games were scheduled, but they still offered their Full Season (discounted) and Weekend plans. The last time they called it the weekend plan, where you could buy all weekend games at full price, the actuall price for the weekend plan was a grand total of $5 dollars more than a discounted full season plan! You could pay more for less games!
Always wondered what happened to the brain surgeon who came up with that marketing strategy. Was that his last season working for HERCO? Reading Mr.Jacob's brilliant comments about the coaster rules... I think I know where that marketing wizz might have been transfered too!
As far as the design...
After Hershey's debacle with Terbulence... and the fact that they are pressed a bit for space and the winning coaster design seems to take up about 30 square miles (not to mention the fact that you would probably need oxygen after the climb up to the station), I don't think you will be seeing it any time soon.
(Now had this been in at Six Flags in the pre Shapiro days... and had the coaster had one thing that made it some sort of world's record holder [and "worlds most meandering coaster" doesn't count]... then who knows...)
Okay, okay... I know. Not nice to bash a 10 year old kid. And I am not... well, not really. Just as some have said... I have seen what kids can do on computers, and I gotta to think that some 10 year old out there had to have come up with some thing a bit more "impressive" (at the very least, a bit more feasable). Not knocking the kid... just the judges.
As far as the new Take 5's... The peanut butter ones are covered in peanut butter instead of chocolate. I had one of them the other day... couldn't tell which I liked better... had a regular one today at lunch... still can't tell... will have to try a new peanut butter one... then a chocolate one... then peanut butter one... etc until I can decide. So much for having more room in the OTSR's this summer... damned carbs. *** Edited 6/5/2006 8:22:20 PM UTC by SLFAKE***
I hope one of us other 1500 people who entered the contest hit it big in the amusement industry one day and have our design built in a park somewhere.
I hope they do another contest sometime so I can enter the crappiest design anyone has ever seen...maybe i'll win.
...you didn't follow the rules.
You had to use the demo available on the contest site which only let you build a steel looper. There was no scenery available and you had a $25,000 cash limit.
Honestly, I'm surprised they even sent you a coupon if that was your entry. :)
