Hercules Remembered

I have read all of the posts in this thread... I have been a part of this conversation since the beginning. My last post was actually in defense on you, urging everyone to get back to the discussion of the loss of Hercules instead of taking person shots at one another with comments about age and education.

I don't think that anyone has bashed you around here for what you said... you started a thread about Hercules and how much you will miss it, which is a very respectable thing. When the coaster that I rode as a kid (the very same coaster that made me an enthusiast) got torn down, I was saddened by it... it is possible to have some kind of feelings for an inanimate object, and therefore it is possible to mourn the loss of it. But since you expressed your opinions in a forum that is built greatly upon the opinions of individuals, you can't expect everyone to feel the same way, and you can't get on their case if they express as much animosity towards the ride as you express appreciation.

I'm not saying its right- this should have been a Hercules "love thread", but when you have a website that depends upon the opinions of the thousands of people that contribute to it, you are bound to get people who agree with you, people who disagree with, and people that will say anything just to be obstinate. You have to take what they say with a grain of salt, because if you succumb to their efforts to piss you off, then you wind up feeding the trolls.

You have done what you feel is right, in light of Dorney's announcement- you initiated a (mostly) intelligent conversation about a coaster that gave you enjoyment. If anything, you've raised awareness of the coaster and perhaps have allowed others to see something that they didn't see before. Be happy with that.

Speaking for myself it was never my intention to flame or bash Dante for his opinion. I've already apologized for the implication.

My point all along is that it seems he has a hard time accepting other people's viewpoints of Hercules. I'm glad he loved the coaster and it brought him joy...that's what our hobby is all about. But his stance seems to be "I loved it so anyone who says it's crap is wrong."

I have the opposite problem with Timbers. I rode it...it was fun...but it wasn't all that. When people find out I don't have it ranked in my Top 10 [or Top 20, or Top 30] they go ballistic, as if I must be committing some sort of sin. The difference is that I don't take what they say personally. I can easily see why someone would rank Timber highly. So why does it seem Dante can't see why some wouldn't think highly of Herc?

1 out of every 2 or 3 posts is getting kind of annoying too. You don't have to comment every time someone says something, especially if they agree with you. Live up to your awesome name man. ;)

Mommy..... I Want That......!!!!

Wouldn't it be cool if the DP auctioned off the train cars to the highest buyer? I think it would be awesome having one of the Herc train cars as a lawn ornament. =)

--------------------------------------

Who actually invented the rollercoaster anyway? Whoever did must've had quite a trip!

I think Dorney themselves used an old train as a lawn ornament during HalloWeekends.

I'm almost positive Dorney does use the old trailered cars (at least one or two of them) for Halloweekends. I'd think Cedar Fair would keep current Hercules trains for spare parts for their other PTC's in the CF family.

One thing I think is unreasonable about your point (Dante) is the idea that you're entitled to some sort of goodbye party on Hercules. Granted it's nice, but as Dave A. mentioned in the HW thread, such an event is a *gift*. Dorney does not have any obligation or responsibility to host an event or to keep a ride for any reason other than making bucks.

Perhaps I am wrong (having never been to HW) but I'd bet that if SRM or PPP weren't generating good press/$ for the respective parks, they'd be gone in a flash. (Well, I suppose SRM is a moot point now, but you get the idea).

Not intending to flame. Just stating my point of view.

Well I , for one, really wish I could've ridden this ride. I seem to be the opposite enthusiast.

ex. I hate the beast. I hate it beyond all belief. It isn't even in my top ten(and I haven't ridden that many wooden coasters).

I love SOB. It currently sits at my top coaster of all coasters.I love the speed , the helices , and being thrown to one side constantly.

I also don't hate what most enthusiasts call the ultimate rathole.SFKK. It's not really all that bad , and T2 is WAY less rough than Ninja at SFOG.

I side with Dante on this one(and mOOsh too for that beast comment ;) ).

I stood up and Bowed.

An earlier announcement was all I wanted. I'd be far less bitter.

DorneyDante's Right....

I think everyone would have appreciated notice a little earlier than 4 days don't you think? Like I've said earlier, i'm not mad that Hercules is closing. It's HOW Hercules was closed.

Is the coaster being demolished yet?

Does anyone know what dates it will be demolished?

------------------
When I was in church the other day my teacher asked if we knew anyone that was so smart they were weird.
I stood up and Bowed.

It will be completely "disassembled" by spring. No work has started yet, they just have a sign on the front of the coaster explaining the situation. This was the situation as of last week when I was there.

Has anyone figured out why it will be "disassembled" instead of demolished? Or is the park just saying that to make it sound nice?

Going by past history... probably because the noise of the wrecking ball would be too much noise for the neighbors of the park to endure.

Who knows, we'll just have to wait and see, I'm not gonna speculate because no actions have taken place yet. You better believe I will be getting pictures of it when it gets demolished though.

Maybe they'll use giant woodcutting "lasers" ;)

If I was part of a coaster, I would be an upstop pad on an Arrow Mine Train.
