Help me identify this defunct coaster

OK, gang, here is a chance to show your stuff. Especially those who are into older defunct woodies. Myself. I am usually a whiz at these things but this one has seriously stumped me. I've ruled out the Lincoln Park Comet. Anyone have a clue?

Well of course you're a whiz at these things...you're Harry Traver, for crying out loud! ;)

As for the coaster, I, uhh...haven't a clue. I'm usually good at these things, myself, but this one's a stumper. Where'd you find the picture?

Flyer Comet at Whalom Park. Just a guess!

Thanks,
DMC

I think that is the whalom coaster the turnaround looks exactly the same.

Your Park only has 1 good coaster! That's too bad!
Maybe not, look at RCDB and it looks like the track color is red and white and the color of the coaster in the picture is just white maybe green.

So this is probably not Whalom's coaster, back to square one.

Maybe its the Jack Rabbit at at Clementin!

A friend of mine was emailed the photo with someone asking HIM to help identify it. The original source of the photo is unknown. But, the fact of the matter is that we have a defunct coaster that we can't seem to identify. The picture looks current but it's possible that it is older than it appears. I've compared Whalom Park photos, and Clementon Lake photos and they are not this coaster. Hopefully somebody can help ole Harry out here!
;)
Can't be Clementon because the JR doesn't have three layers of track on any of its turns. I would have guesed the LP Comet but since that has already been discounted, I'm not sure...
I am wondering now if it could be in Canada or Europe. I have drawn a complete blank here. There are certain tell-tell signs on this photo. Small dip before the fan turnaround, three layers of track on at least one end, had a walkway that went through the structure. Probably the wooded surroundings could be a good clue to someone.
Hard to tell. Could be one of the defunct parks in Ohio, or maybe PA, depending upon the age of the photo. Woodies were until recently not the norm in Europe, and Great Britain didn't have that many.
Do we have any more information on this? Also does anyone seem to feel that it might actually be a painting? Look hard at the plants and stuff. They look kind of fake.

DMC

Definitely not Whalom.

mOOSH [stumped...for now]

I dunno this is all I came up with. http://www.rcdb.com/installationgallery257.htm?Picture=6

I am certain its a John A. Miller design.

That looks like awfully the same i would say that's pretty darn close if it isn't. *** Edited 12/16/2003 4:56:42 PM UTC by darienlakefan***

Hmmm, this pic shows only two layers of track on the far turnaround if I'm seeing it right. http://www.rcdb.com/installationgallery257.htm?Picture=13

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

It may be similar in design, but I don't believe the same... look not at the coaster, but at the background and forground.

I do not believe the fairgrounds are a) that wooded and b) that hilly.

"Yes... well... VICTORY IS MINE!"
-No way it is a painting. I also don't believe there's any photoshop work involved.

-I agree it is either a John Miller or a copycat. It appears to be a pretty standard Figure 8 coaster... though that top turnaround has a lovely line to it that seems a little unusual. I don't believe Crashmando was saying it's Coaster Thrill Ride, just pointing out the similarities, which I agree with. It's definately not CTR, anyway.

A few other little tidbits... looks to me like it was taken on a film camera with a wide angle lens (note the rounded edges). Due to the nice colors in the photo I'd guess it was taken in the last 10 years. There's a bench between the green wood on the left and the tree behind it. The foliage and weeds (and topography) feel very midwest-ish to me. Maybe southeast. I don't think it's Northeast or Northwest (and certainly not Southwest).

The pic Harry put out was taking far away. Mine was taking close up. So maybe the trees are behind the photographer. One more guess is this http://www.rcdb.com/installationgallery196.htm?Picture=1

Sorry guys I failed you! :>( *** Edited 12/16/2003 5:36:27 PM UTC by Crashmando***

crashmando,
you're missing the point a bit. The photo in question was taken relatively recently (at the very least in the last 20 years) at a place that was severaly defunct. We're looking for a coaster that was SBNO sometime in the last 20 years at a park that was most obviously closed for business.

Also you guys are saying there is 3 sets of tracks in the turn around. I think the lower one is actually the second track in the back round not a 3rd one! that pic could have been taking at a park that had a coaster that was SBNO and then someone bought it and got it running again! Plus its on the turn around which could be back off the beat path so not much landscape upkeep could have been done. *** Edited 12/16/2003 5:39:58 PM UTC by Crashmando***
