Help Give Kids The World win a $250,000 grant from Pepsi

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Give Kids The World is participating in the "Refresh Everything" program sponsored by Pepsi. At stake is a $250,000 grant that will help the charity make repairs and upgrades at the GKTW Village in Central Florida.

As I'm sure you know, Give Kids The World Village is a place for children with life threatening illness and their families to stay and enjoy the attractions of the area that we take for granted at no cost. CoasterBuzz has long been a supporter of this organization, as it's so closely tied to the industry we love.

Please take a moment to follow this link and vote for GKTW. Yes, the sign-up is kind of a pain, but there's also a Facebook login that makes it much easier if you're a member there. Please vote!

I went through the link provided in the original article.

Every time I think I should go ahead and sign up for MyFace or Spacebook, someone I'd particularly not want to socially network with tells me I just have to sign up so we can be on each other's page. I figure I can do a better job of avoidance by not signing up. Kinda like not buying the Demon Drop tee.

I have an original Demon drop tee from back in the 80's, that is kind of awesome. It's pretty small, and threadbare, though.

Man up, RGB... friend requests have an "ignore" button. Use it liberally. :)

Yeah, it's awkward, but people eventually get over it. Just ask my grandmother. :)

^^ Can I make a suggestion for Coasterbuzz? :)

Hey guys...it's me again :).

Unfortunately we just found out that we've been bumped to another date for The TODAY Show; [url][url]boo! But the good news is we're still in the single digits with more support than ever. If you want a daily reminder or to show your support for GKTW in the Refresh campaign, I encourage you to attend our FB event here. And don't forget to take a few seconds to read some of the comments our wonderful families and volunteers are leaving on the refresh page--

GKTW gave us a magical Disney experience, and the villas make caring for a disabled child a thousand times easier than in a hotel room. This organization deserves all the support they can get.

I used PointBuzz's Twitter to reach out to some of the Disney fan sites. Already got a RT from @stitchkingdom. That's a giant group of people who already share Orlando love. If you're part of one of those communities, don't be afraid to push the cause!

My wonderful boyfriend came across this extremely well-done video[url] about Evan's recent Wish Trip to Orlando and I wanted to share it with you. The whole thing is very touching and I feel shows why we do what we do. They show GKTW throughout, but specifically starting at 7:07.

Each vote gets us closer to $250K...will yours be the one to put us in the elite eight today?

Still hanging in 9th place, which makes me wonder if it will jump up significantly again on Monday, like it did last week, thanks to all the weekend votes flooding in.

I hope so. It's hard for me to believe it's not budging at all each day.

People must not care about sick children. :(

Still in 10th place. Maybe if there was a banner on the CBuzz and PBuzz Homepages, more people would be helping. Just a suggestion.

The dirty little secret about those home pages... no one goes to them or clicks on anything on them. Seriously. They're basically good for the search engines and not much else.

Well, the people who do find the site through search engines are likely the ones who are least likely to know about GKTW. But I see your point. I go straight to the forum page myself.

So it dropped again to 11th. It's really hard not to be discouraged. There's only 1 week left. Hopefully everyone is remembering to vote.

I'm very discouraged. I can't see how people would not want to vote for this. I'm not talking about us, but rather people who just come across the description.

I'm fairly annoyed as well, because I know it's not like folks around here aren't doing it several times a day, linking on Facebook, etc.

Looks like the Fightin' Mules have a strong voting block going. Not to dismiss anybody's causes, but aren't there already about 8000 organizations trying to find a cure for AIDS and these other diseases? And as far as a film makers school and business school for hip-hop artists, why don't people already in the business making millions and millions of dollars pony up the buck for those causes?

Jeff's avatar

Yeah, the criteria for this is messed up. It's a strange promotion. I mean, is anyone actually drinking any more Pepsi because of this?
