Help Give Kids The World win a $250,000 grant from Pepsi

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Give Kids The World is participating in the "Refresh Everything" program sponsored by Pepsi. At stake is a $250,000 grant that will help the charity make repairs and upgrades at the GKTW Village in Central Florida.

As I'm sure you know, Give Kids The World Village is a place for children with life threatening illness and their families to stay and enjoy the attractions of the area that we take for granted at no cost. CoasterBuzz has long been a supporter of this organization, as it's so closely tied to the industry we love.

Please take a moment to follow this link and vote for GKTW. Yes, the sign-up is kind of a pain, but there's also a Facebook login that makes it much easier if you're a member there. Please vote!

Disturbingly, this is still stuck at 11th place. Don't forget to vote! We've got to see this one through to the top.

What's more frustrating than being stuck at 11th is not having any idea how many votes have been cast to know whether or not we're at least making progress or not.

I've been casting my daily vote, and posting it to Facebook. I know I'm getting at least a few friends to vote every day as well.

I've now added the link to my signatures so that people not reading this thread get exposure to the link as well.

Yeah, I really wish we could watch the progress.

At least the horror film thingy isn't at the top anymore. If it were to end right now, Bedford High School would get a weight room. Whoop-de-friggin'-do.

$250,000 for a weight room? Are they using gold plated equipment?

Doesn't even look like that's for the weights. Just the construction of that and first-ever wrestling room.

So you get 10 votes a day, but you can only vote for any project only once? That's dumb. If you believe in one project, they should let you cast all your votes for the day on that project.

I was also having some kind of problem logging in the past few days. It was telling me my saved password was incorrect all of a sudden. So I tried changing it. They sent me the e-mail telling me how to change it. But when I changed it and tried to submit the new one, it would tell me they couldn't validate my changes.

Looks like I'm back on. For now.

There are diferent catagories you can vote in where one vote won't invalidate another.

Right, but I think it would be much better to be able to cast all of your votes for something you truly believe in. That's like saying you can go to the store with $10, but you're not allowed to spend it on 1 $10 item you really want, you must choose 10 smaller items at $1 each.

It's ranked 10th now. A little climb is better than no climb. Let's keep voting! :)

What RP said. They could give everyone 10 votes per day to distribute as we choose. 10 votes for project, 1 vote for 10 projects, 8-2, 5-5, 2-2-2-2-1-1... whatever.

When they tell you that you have 10 votes, but each project is only allowed 1 vote per day, people get miffed.

But if they only allowed 1 vote, no one would think twice.

There's a lesson there.

Actually, I did. They ask a lot of marketing questions just to sign up. I sort of lied anyway-- they didn't have the choice "whatever brand costs less this week" under my favorite soda.

To have to provide so much info in exchange for a single vote, yeah I'd think twice and probably wouldn't bother. I was hoping one of you more techie types would create a bot that would allow continuous voting, but I guess the verification wouldn't allow that.

Just climbed to 9th.

You had to answer marketing questions? I've signed up with 3 different email accounts and Facebook, and I never had to do anything but input a name, DoB and password. It doesn't even verify your email address.

Hooray for being away from "the curse of 11th place" and-even better- in the single-digits! A HUGE thank you for everyone's daily support.

Just another shout-out, GKTW will be on The TODAY Show this Friday at some point during the 8am(EST) hour. The segment was filmed back in May with special correspondent Jenna (Bush) Hager, who made a stop by the Village while reporting on Harry Potter.

Keep on voting!

For the record, I seem to be able to vote as many times as I want with Facebook. Or at least, once every hour or two.

Interesting. It allows me to login using the email address that is linked to my Facebook, and vote a 3rd time.
