Help Conneaut open this year.

That's a good question.

Either way, it's still the most accurate count available.

Realistically though, you have to wonder how long they'll try to push forward with this.

Yeah, the count could be higher, but I doubt it is significantly higher!

I predict they will keep selling tokens all summer and make them valid for admission discounts next year if they can't get the park open for 2007.

I think Cedar Fair should buy CLP. If only to drive the webmaster mad with indecision.
They're up to 3384.
thanks to Gonch and his link.
:)

A person on another site said they plan on opening in stages. Like the Hotel first, Camperland second, Kiddieland third and move toward the major rides. Hotel first due to Proms and the fact that it's about the only thing ready to open. I hope they keep the restaurant closed though, starting off losing 2k a day wouldn't be good.

Honestly, I hope the park doesn't open this year.

Considering sales of the tokens have been slow, I'd rather see the sales continue while a nice amount of money is saved to get the park open next year. At this point, it doesn't make sense to spend all the money that has been made to reopen the park for half a season, especially if only part of the park can be opened with the money that's available. If the same problem is going to happen next winter, why not use the money to get the park up and running for 2008 and really make a serious effort to get everything in order, possibly even working on getting some of that debt paid?

I want to see the park open, but I'm going to jump to the other side of the fence just once, put my emotions aside and push for a smart business decision to be made. I actually think that trying to open this year is going to do more harm than good.

^Whether they open or not, they're still going to have pay insurance, which somehow they've managed to not fall back on. That can't be cheap. If they rides don't run, imagine the impact on them. They get maintained when they run them, otherwise they just sit and rot due to having no budget for maintenance.

This late in the game, I, too, have mixed feelings on this.

I think they may be looking at this way: If we open at least a little, we'll have the chance to make something. If we don't open at all, we're not bringing in anything and our debt will grow larger.

If they don't open, imagine how cheap the room rates will go for around the park. That and cabin rental prices will drop like a stone.

But are they paying insurance on rides that aren't operating? I have no idea.

I'm not in favor of any amusement park failing to open, but at this point it seems like it might make sense in this particular instance. I'm just thinking of the greater good, and pulling strings to get the place opened for just a few months might not be the best idea. But maybe there's stuff that I'm missing?

Oh boy...did you ever open a can of worms with that last statement, Rob!
I figure you have to have insurance on the rides and buildings when you have loans you're paying on.

As far as liability coverage, i wouldn't want people any where near there without it. The property isn't closed off from the public like other parks.

Is there anywhere you can actually purchase tokens online without having to make a phone call? I don't live anywhere near the park, and if I could just make an online purchase it would be so easy.

I survived a Japanese typhoon and the Togo flat ride of death!!!!!!

Honestly, I'm surprised that they're even selling 300-400 per day.

Thrillboy1: Nope, you have to call. Don't be afraid. They don't bite (and I have a pretty severe phone-phobia).
I can vouch for that. I think Joe would rather lose a foot rather than calling 911 and risking talking to a live person! ;)
Hey! I used the phone twice on Friday!
Your wife must have called.
A very interesting article. I admire Mr. Deshner's tenacity and ability to bring together the resources available to keep the park going as much as is possible.

This park should have closed many many years ago and still it forges ahead. I am cautiously optimistic that despite the shortfalls this park will survive. I have and will continue to what I can to help out.

It sure would be nice for the Rendell Administration to provide some economic development funds for the Park. If they can dump 10 Million into a hunting museum in Tionesta then 100-250,000 for Conneaut certainly is a prudent investment of taxpayer resources.
