Has your homepark inproved since SF took over?

BatwingFanSFA, I still think you still miss the point completely about SFA. Your claim of neglect is just unfounded. Did we not just get a new ride this year? Remember, it's called Penguin's Blizzard River? Nine rides have been added since 1999 (10 if you include the Skycoaster). And once again, remember, Premier Parks and Six Flags Inc. are the same company, just it's not called Premier Parks anymore. Many of the other Six Flags parks would love our coaster lineup, even if many of the rides have twins/faternal twins, not to mention all the flat rides.

Vater, that's all well and good about the coaster installations at PKD, but the park is woefully short in a certain department, and that's flats/spinning rides. The last flat they added was Triple-Spin, a Huss Troika, quite possibly one of the most yawn-inducing rides ever created. And they already had a scrambler.

That wasn't at all my point. I was responding to supermandl34's question about coasters.

And anyway, you're preaching to the wrong guy. Flats don't interest me very much. ;)

I guess I *should* be happy with the homeparks I have, but if SF were to come in with a nice 10-coaster park.....*sigh*....Guess it's back to Hotlanta at least ONCE more this season....;)

gator, for the love of God NO!!

Save yourself from the cesspool that is SFoG. Ugh.

Joe, not very happy with his home park in the south lately, and who misses his home park in the north soooo much more now!

Joe, if you got a better option that I can *drive* to, with a decent selection of coasters, let me know!

BGT is the best I've got if I want a park with wood....and it gets tired what with four good coasters...

Going to the family reunion in a couple weeks takes me back to GAdv (twice in one season).....talk about cesspools!

I-Fan,I wasn't making a reference to SFA at all in my above post, instead I was basing it more on how alot of the parks are somewhat in the same situation if ...if not worse.

I'm sure the folks at SFDL,or SFKK would be delighted if they ever got some of the rides SFA managed to get,too bad ttthat it just won't or can't happen for some of them.

How many people here remember when it was something else to get a coaster every 5-10 years at your home park and where super happy about that. Seems there are too many complaints about not getting a coaster every year or 2.

I agree with you 100 percent. It's all because of this biggest, tallest, fastest crap. Why do all these paerks have to compete like they do? Why can't we just have fun no matter if the coaster is 100 feet of 600 feet?

I'm not just complaining about not getting a coaster. I am mad that SFDL has added very little in non-upcharge, adult attractions in the past few years. While more little kid rides were installed, the only attractions added for adults between '99 (when S:RoS was installed, which I would never give up) and '03 have been Shipwreck Falls and Twister (Huss Top Spin). The complaint is more that the park is adding so little that there is almost no reason to go back every year. At this point, I wouldn't mind the park becoming a "dumping ground" for the rides that the other parks in the chain no longer want, no matter the amount of downtime it experiences. A flat, no matter what shape it's in, is still an improvement.

Because of competition. You get a hell of a lot more people in a park if you build the tallest or the fastest coaster.

My homepark is Six Flags Great Adventure, and while so many rides have been added under Six Flags ownership, I can say with confidence that the park has not changed for the better.

While I dont know the exact history behind Great Adventure, but I do know that the plan for the park was truly incredible. The theming was top notch (Frontier Adventures remains my favorite section due to the fact that some theming still remains) and was compared to Disney. Along with a Wildlife side, the park was really looking good and if the park had succeded instead of going bankrupt (I believe what happened), then I would truly be proud of my homepark.

Now, although the park is definately improving and Six Flags has put in top notch rides that have great reliability (Though Chiller has had its share of problems), you can walk around the park and see the problems.

Rolling Thunder, while it looks nice and the park is making an effort, it still rides horribly. The park insists on not greasing the ride and retracking it resulting in poor ridership. Shade cannot be found in any of the queues and rides like Nitro and Medusa constantly stack, depending on the crews working them. The 25 flat rides we recieved, dont even get me started. Evolution, Time Warp and Pirates Flight were removed, with some of their queues still remaining. Jumpin Jack Flash has just began to run consistantly, and the log flume over by Skull Mountain fails each year to open in the summer months and many other flats are rarely run.

Congo River Rapids never runs at full capacity resulting in huge waits on hot days. The Batman arena remains despite no shows taking place. The paths in the park are cracked and old and desperately need repaving and much of the theming has been ruined due to placement of rides; Medusa in the Frontier Adventures area (Dont give me that Medusa Mine POS story) and Superman in the Boardwalk.

Batman, The Chiller has not run since last year and according to employees, it may not even open this year. The Baboon area of the Safari opened briefly this season and then closed again. Oh and, Nitros Station is just a disaster.

I realize that I am being harsh in pointing out every single flaw with my homepark, but it really is dissapointing to see a park with so much potential go to waste. But the park is definately turn around with the help of Tim Black. I really feel that each year the park gets better and better, and hopefully in a few years I can truly say that I like my home park.

I still think it's stupid though. What are they going to do when they reach the limit? Sure TTD looks like a fun coaster but I still rather ride rides like S:RoS, Medusa, and The Hulk. Instead of tallest or fastest why not funnest?

I just think it's stupid that parks like CP and SFMM feel like they have to build a new coaster every year because they don't want to lose their world records.

Maybe because fastest and tallest is factual and "funnest" is completely based upon opinion?

Why do parks want to break records? Obviously to brag! We all know the biggest, tallest and fastest of anything will draw more people than an average coaster.

------------------
It IS as bad as you think, and they ARE out to get you.

I'm going to SFMW in a couple weeks and I haven't been there since it was called Marine World Africa USA (Dinosphere was new...). Besides the rides, does anyone know how the park has changed?

Who said the tallest and the fastest roller coasters can't be fun? Also, how can you compared TTD, a coaster you haven't ridden, to those you have? Nitro looks a lot more fun than Talon, but I had a far better time on Talon.

I think it's stupid when people (like you) think CP and SFMM add coasters to retain their title. Sure, they'd like to keep it, but that is not the reason why they add coasters. It's called competition with area parks, in case you didn't read my earlier post. This big "coaster war" between CP and SFMM is all in your head.

Six Flags has done a lot for AstroWorld. If we are refferring to the 70s, 80s, and 90s, SF, then SF has definately improved AstroWorld since it took over. If we're referring to the former Premier Parks, then hell no. SF has let AW rot since 1999. Attndance is dropping, the park's turning into a landfill, and the rides are turning to their previous color schemes (Shockwave blue on BTE, Jet Scream blue on Viper). Season Pass prices are up to $80, which is more than all but 3 other SF parks.

It is definatly not a coincidence that CP and MM add a coaster each year. They are fighting over the record! It is definatly not just all in my head.

Sure I haven't ridden TTD but I don't know how it can top rides like S:RoS. When SFNE got S:RoS built they weren't looking for a record breaking ride and guess what? It's continually rated #1 by enthusiests all over the world. I'm not saying that I wouldn't want to ride TTD because I do! I wasn't trying to start controversy I was just giving my opinion.

Did you ever notice Cedar Point began adding roller coaster every year when SF took over Geauga Lake and began adding several coasters and rides? As far as SFMM goes, it's in California where there is major competition (Disneyland, CA, KBF etc.) and they must add a major new attraction every year (or every other) to keep up the competition.

S:RoS did become the tallest and fastest roller coaster on the east coast, and longest, tallest, and fastest in the northeast, so it was easily marketable. They didn't say, "Hey let's build a coaster just for fun!." They built it to bring people into the park. Oh, and guess what? MF, TTD, and X are also continually rated #1 by enthusiasts, and they were all record-breaking rides.

Bottom line: The tallest and the fastest roller coasters can be fun, and parks build them to be the tallest and the fastest so they can bring people into the park.

I don't see why I should be arguing with you but I will anyway.

SFMM is definatly not building new coasters every year to compete with Disneyland. They are two completely different parks. I don't care what you say, CP and SFMM are definatly competing over the world record for the most coasters in one park.

When did I ever say that the tallest or fastest coasters aren't fun? I'm not saying that building record breaking rides is a bad thing I'm just saying that they should worry more about making a fun ride that will please guest more instead of a record breaking ride. I'm sure many other enthusiests on this site will agree with me also.
