Guests turned away from Cedar Point's Millennium Force

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Cedar Point has imposed restrictive measures on its Millennium Force roller coaster in the wake of the accident that killed a man at Six Flags New England. The changes come down from the manufacturer, and prevent many guests that could ride in previous years to ride today.

I was there today. To my relief, I was able to ride MF. YES! I already rode 3 times prior to this during this season. I was not embarrassed to try the test chair. I pulled hard to get 1 inch slack and the attendant said I should be OK. Should? I stood in line 1 hour 40 minutes and did not know for sure if they would "be mean" and not let me on, but I guess I fit OK. I'm 5'4" and weigh about 205 and have a waist of 40". Believe me if this isn't incentive to lose more weight, I don't know what is!
the park has to protect its self. It you are to large you are putting your self at risk and the park is risking the safety of there guests . the country is law suit crazed . I think its the right thing to do . sorry to big ,no ride.
I can hardly blame the parks for looking out for themselves. A few years back, ok maybe like 12 years back or so maybe more, back at the beginning of this lawsuit madness we seem to be going through, SFSt.Louis had re-outfitted it's old Mine Train as a stand-up coaster named "Bonanza". Everything was going just swimmingly until one of these "riders of exceptional size" came along. The operator told her that she wouldn't be safe on the ride. The rider told the op that she would be allowed to ride or she and the park would face a lawsuit.Against all better judgement, she was allowed to ride, fell out and got herself killed. SF has since returned the coaster to it's original form and can still be ridden as the River King Mine Train, though the restraints are almost laughable larger people can ride it now..
I am an EXCEPTIONAL Person. What the He|| is Exceptional size??

Cedar Point's Restrictions on size & weight (from CP website):

Due to rider restraint system requirements, guests of exceptional size may not be accommodated on some of our rides. This may apply, but not be limited to, males who exceed 6'2", and those who exceed 225 pounds, have a 40" waistline or 52" chest or females who exceed 200 pounds or wear size 18 or larger. Each person has different body proportions, so it is impossible to determine exact size and weight.

I'm not obese and I'm certainly not skinny either. I'm 6'4" 285 lbs and I'm in better physical shape now than I was 2 years ago when I was allowed on all the rides at Cedar Point. Seeing that I grew up going to Cedar Point, I never even thought that I would suddenly be ban from certain rides cause of my Size. Heck my height, weight and overall size has not changed in the last 10 years, so why would I ever think otherwise. I had no clue about the new "Size & Weight" restrictions when I went to the park Tuesday June 29th, 2004.

WHY don't they put the test seats out front before the ticket gates??

If I had known before I went thru the gates and gave them my money - I WOULD NOT HAVE PAID!!! I FEEL ROBBED!! The fact that the website has such a small disclaimer on it about the restrictions is just to cover their butts! Besides not everyone has the internet. Why are they hiding the Restrictions from people until its to late to get your money back?? Are they just greedy? I never knew about it until they told me at the gate that I could not ride. I should have been informed when I bought my ticket.

Its discrimination plain and simple. It's ok for me to pay $40 dollars a person to get in but I'm not allowed to ride cause the manufacturer can not guarrentee my safety. WHAT BS!! They just don't want to revamp all the rides cause of the enourmus cost!! But why not let the fat guy in and then tell him so he spends all his money on food to drown his sorrows.

Besides they should post at the gates which rides are down for mechanical reasons. The new Dragster was offline all day!! Along with the MF, Magnum, & Twister for part of the Day!! So all I got to ride where 15 year old rides and a two hour wait to almost not ride the MF.(Thanks to the employee that strugged with me to fit me in!)

I say everyone that does not meet their "Idea of the Perfect Sized Rider" should start a ban against Cedar Point!!

Heck Whats next -- Geauga Lake?? (owned & operated by Cedar Point)

Wow, I'm a year too late, but...

Last May, I went to Cedar Point and rode pretty much every ride...

However, when I went to get on the ME, I was stopped and asked to try the seat. I didn't think anything of it, so I did and I fit perfectly, the same as I did the last time I rode it...

Then I realized what had happened. Now, keep in mind that I am a size 13 in jeans and almost 5'7 inches tall. I'm a pretty big girl, but by no means exceptional... Come on now... I got so pissed off that I just walked away. That ruined my trip. Dude, okay, I'm a fat ass, but come on... My safety would not have been compromised anymore than the other riders. The worst part, the part that made me walk away, is that a girl easily 50 pounds heavier than me was let through with no problem while I was trying the seat. Duude. That ruined Cedar Point for me...

Someone help me. I am thinking of going to Cedar Point this year, because I have never been there. The problem is, I'm 6'2, 380 pounds, 48" waist line. Can someone tell me if I'd be waisting money going there? Is there ANY ride I'd be able to do?

also, if you guys can recommened another one, maybe King's Island or 6 flags...one where I'd be able to ride at least 75% of the rides without worrying about weight issues!

Thanks

Alan
