Great quote from Dick Kinzel...

...why doesn't he have the balls to do something about it?

Who says he doesn't? Funds and/or a plan may already be in the long-range plans...we can hope ;)

Think of it as a "tweener" coaster. Not really a kiddie ride, but something you can go on with your kid. Rides like that are important.

Here's To Shorter Lines & Longer Trip Reports!

A sling shot would be nice their. Or a spinning coaster.

Their what? Who are you referring to?
Lol, When I went to CP in 2002 I got on EVERY coaster except DT. But I Can say I got to wear the funky glasses and wait through 1 hours worth of line. It was only about 7pm and after doing about every coaster a big nasty storm rolled in and caused THE PARK to close while i was in line. My Experience on DT was definately a Distaster and I didn't even get to ride the thing.

You knew what he meant. Do you always have to be such a smart*ss everytime someone slips up on the usage of a word?

Disaster Transport was better as Avalanche Run. I remember waiting over an hour to ride it when it first came out in '85. It would be a near walk-on at night, which was when it was the best to ride.

When it happens in every single post, sometimes numerous times in a single post, I'll give a emphatic "yes" to your question.

Jeff and Moosh,

He does have balls, it's being dismantled right now and being shipped to MiA. I'm not sure where they'll put it though, with all of the new things they're getting this year.

I love DT. It is one of my favorite rides there. I am disappointed that most effects are not working anymore. I miss "We're loosing control!"

Let me help you coasterkid...

"There" has the word "here" in it. "Here" is a place and "THERE" is a place. When you want it to mean a pace, you spell it "there".

"They're" is a smooshing of two words, "They" and "are".

"Their" is the one that is left, so it shows possession. I find it helpful to pronounce it a little differently than the other two words. To me it sounds like they-ir.

There is their TV that they're watching.

I hope that helps. I know you're not a dummy. If you don't practice spelling, you forget how to spell. The communication skills you can gain from posting on Coasterbuzz will be used in other areas of your life.

Of course! ;)

In a similar article months ago he said Top Thrill Dragster along with Disaster Transport were the worst business decisions he's ever made.

That reminds me of one of the hardest laughs I ever had on the Paddlewheel Excursion boat. The captains are always pretty good at getting laughs, even though some of the jokes are the same as the ones I heard 25 years ago, but as we passed by TTD in 2004, which was the first time I took my kids to CP, the captain said "...and on your right is the worlds largest paperweight..." For some reason that one got me.

As for DT, I'm actually looking forward to riding it AND Iron Dragon this year. My daughter has cracked 46" so we can actually ride more than Woodstock Express and Jr. Gemini. Of course, we usually go during Halloweekends so she may hit 48" by then, and if that's the case....woohoo!!!!!! My coaster life can get back to some sense of normalcy for the first time since 1999!!!!

Tom....heck...I'm pumped up for Great Wolf Lodge this weekend, cabin fever has hit HARD!!!

You have disturbed the forbidden temple, now-you-will-pay!!!

"...and on your right is the worlds largest paperweight..."

Haha. That's what us Paddlewheel Captains call an "illegal joke". I told it a few times if I noticed that there were some coaster enthusiasts riding. One time that I told it a Supe was riding and I didn't realize. I thought I was in trouble but he just laughed.

When passing TDD, I would sometimes say, "On your right is one of the greatest thrill rides ever built. It's the red one ...You can see it's lift hill just behind TDD".

^I always got a kick out of 'Wooden bullets so it wouldn't hurt.' line. Same line from 1980 when I was in high school.

I'm told that one significant issue with Disaster/Avalanche is that the Point insisted on longer vehicles than what was typically found on a bobsled style ride (for capacity purposes). As a result, the vehicle doesn't travel up and down the troft as much as it does on similar rides and...makes for a less thrilling experience.

Of course, that doesn't excuse the retheming. When it first opened I thought it wasn't that bad. Not Space Mountain, of course, but passable. But, like many other things they are guilty of, they let the effects go to heck in a handbasket which completely detracts from the experience. And, when I say they, I mean Dick who could squeeze a stone out of a buck.

I have often wondered if one reason they haven't done anything about it is that his house is just a hop, skip and jump down the beach from the ride. The ride is pretty muted all covered up like that. If he tore it down and put a different coaster in its place I imagine the sound would affect the home.

^ I really doubt that's an issue. If he wanted it quiet, he wouldn't have his house in the middle of the parking lot!
I actually didn't mind Disaster Transport that much, to me there are much less enjoyable coasters out there. Its not exciting, but its still a nice slow family coaster that is not too rough. The worst coaster I ever been on was Flashback. That had a lab restraint and a shoulder restraint, the most closed in cars ever, the same element over and over again, and sort of explains why that thing is going.

Rollergator:

I actually think if Son of Beast gets the Gerstlauer trains that are on Falken, it will vastly improve. The lap restraints are an L-shape, which will mean no lateral htting through the turns. The trains reportantly track very well for Falken, as that ride is highly praised. Son of Beast is uncomfortable due to the heavy vibrations, elevelated sitting position due to the floor boards being raised, and the u-shaped lap bars hurting peoples legs and knees. All that should be eliminated. The vibrations at the bottom of the hils is likely a function of the trains being to heavy and the structure needing to be redesigned in certain areas. This all should be taken care of by the time they start sending riders. Really my top choice would be to see GCII Millenium Flyer trains, but after that, the trains on Falken by Gerstlauer seems like a good second choice. *** Edited 2/14/2007 1:29:40 PM UTC by Beast Fan***

He got the house there because the land was free (having been owned by the Point) and Cedar Fair built the house. The parking lot isn't really loud...but imagine a Blue Streak/Mean Streak or even Raptor down on that end of the beach. Maybe Mr. wouldn't care...but Mrs. might.

"lab restraints" ??? Do they allow retrievers on some rollercoasters now? ;)

What is the point of covering a ride if it can't be run in the rain?

^^ Beast Fan....I certainly HOPE you're right. Haven't had the pleasure of the "G-2" trains. But at this point, I think it's a fairly safe bet that Sonny's overall cost comes in somewhere between TTD/Ka and Steel Dragon....and if CF doesn't get the annual maintenance repair/upkeep down into the 6-digit range, I can't see it running too much longer.

Honestly, Paramount *and* Cedar Fair both had problems keeping their theming looking good. It's one thing to go to the "New for XX" ride and see great theming, it's another thing entirely to go to the same station two years later and think "WHAT happened?" That's just plain unacceptable, IMO.
