Great Escape seeks approval of "Runaway Train".

There is now confirmation that The Great Escape is seeking approval of a "new" coaster in Ghost Town. You can read about it here:

This isn't exactly a surprise, but it is at least confirmation of what was written in a thread a couple weeks ago.

I hope they can get it and get NaCC open.
Well we will take anything we can get and a mine train would be great for ghost town. I sure as heck hope that the rumor about them removing Tornado for this ride does not come true though. That would be horrible since I never got to go on it and the park needs an old dark ride like the Tornado. Dark rides make parks original and not just clones.

Have you hugged a Beemer today?

Where exactly in Ghost Town will it go?

Also, why can't they put a new coaster in the damn place? It was so crowded the two days I went.

Well it looks like they are trying to get R'N' RC reloctaed to GE,that's about the only ride I can think of that's in storage at Old Indiana & will be a fitting addition for GE in 2003.

If we can just get a description of the track height & length then we can be sure that it's R'N'RC & not a totally new design,I guess we'll find out on the 19th.

Wow!

I'm suprised and happy.

Are we sure it's a roller coaster though? Runaway Train is a coaster name, but it could be a ride too.

the new "used" coaster will be going in the Tornado's current location

Hey, maybe they could get our good ol' Black Widow that used to be @ SFNE from Old Indiana. I'd love to see that ride reborn.

Nahh but they're always welcome to take SFA's Python,it's in much better shape than Black widow & the park has absolutely no intention of ever rebuilding it due in part to it's "killer reputation" when it was at SFGRADV.

I sometimes wonder about it & have to ask if that's the reason for Black widow being removed from SFNE,but then again SFEG still has Sidewinder so I guess it doesn't really matter to them that out of those three identical rides only one of them has caused a fatality.

I don't care if the coaster isn't new, I'm just glad that they could get something!

I believe the young lady fell out during the loop, due to the restraint not being checked. I also believe this led to the overgrown horsecollar design like on Scream Machine with the large handles. They also had a funhouse of some kind where some kids died who were on a field trip. Someone lit up a lighter and the whole thing went up in flames. I also remember hearing of a third fatality involving a ride op who stood up on Rolling Thunder, and was ejected on a test run. Would one of the "elders" please verify what I've said?

Dude, you're getting an Intamin!

Mike, when the ride was a Great Adventure, it was dispatched before one rider was fully in the train. Her harness had slipped into the closed position before she boarded and she was trying to raise it when the ride operators dispatched it. As an Arrow shuttle loop, it launched out and down a hill (negative g force) before the loop. At that point she was thrown out.

I am pretty sure this is what happened. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Yeah,I heard that's exactly what happened, when I was at SFA last week I learned just why the ride was dismantled before the 99 season ,and it was due to that fatality when it was at SFGRADV.

Wasn't there a thread about it here a few months ago which had a link to the story? as I recall I heard that the victim in the accident was also intoxicated & therefore shouldn't have even been trying to get on the ride.

is that track at Great Escape now? or is that a photo of just the track perhaps from Old Indiana?

Ahh, so I was right in that GE's new coaster will be the defunct R'N'RC from Opryland,it looks like SFA won't be getting that thing after all (a blessing in disguise).

I did recall hearing something on them possibly getting SFAW's Excalibur a year or so ago, anyhow it's good to see at least one of the old coasters get a second lease on life,I just hope they can get it in good operating condition because based on the few pics I've seen it doesn't look like it's been well taken care of.

Really, from looking at the pictures, the track looked like all it had was surface rust, and if any motors were bad, then new parts could be made, or a whole new motor or all together lift system could be installed, all the track needs is a good sandblast and a new paint job...

Well... let's hope that NIMBY doesn't say "no" to this, and it's all "just a procedure" to run this by the town board.

I, for one, am looking forward to this coaster and I would like to know what the layout is like, and if they will terraform the landscape to contend to it... possibly a tunnel or two, and whatnot. It would draw more attention up there, but they still are lacking some key rides.

Either way, I'm happy and I hope to get up there next year again!! Anyone have the layout of the old Opry Land version?
