Great America's Deja Vu will finally open Saturday

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

With only a few weeks left in the season, Six Flags Great America's second new coaster, Deja Vu will finally open. It is one of the three giant inverted boomerangs built by Vekoma for Six Flags. The other two reside at Six Flags Magic Mountain and Six Flags Over Georgia.

Read the press release on PR Newswire.

"The Peoples Elbow" or "The Spinaroonie?. Cant decide which is the most electrifying move in sports entertainment!!! LOL
I rode Deja Vu At Six Flags Magic Mountain 4 times between Sept 21 & 23, 2001.

It was a great ride. The longest I waited for it was One Hour (for the front car) and the shortest was 20 minutes.

I rode it before noon each time.

The load time was about 5 minutes per trip each time I rode it.

In the evening the wait was at least an hour.

I will be at SGFAm on Sat Oct 6 and I can compare the two.

I wonder what the harsh northern Illinois winter will do to the smoothness of the ride?

Jesbob21,
In answer to your question, the SFGAm version does have the seatbelts. Loading times are going to be a up there. The process goes something like this:
1) Air gates open, and guests go to their seats
2) Guests sit down, buckle the seat belt, then wait for the ride ops to check them.
3) Once all the seat belts are checked, the signal is given to lower the OTSR's.
4) The ride ops then make a 2nd pass on the train, and check the OTSR's
5) Once that is done, and everything else looks good, the ride is "cleared" to be sent.

Good thing is it appears that if they have enough staff, there are 4 people working on the train at a given time (2 per side, one group doing the front of the train, and one doing the back). As long as staffing keeps up that should work out ok. But, if you are down to 1 person per side, then I would guess that it would get really long between cycles.

Once all of us at the media event got used to sitting down and putting on the seatbelt and then pulling down on the OTSR's after the belts have been checked, the process did go really smooth. The good thing is that if you do pull down on the OTSR to soon, it does not lock, allowing the ride operator to just lift it back up to check the seatbelt. One problem I see happening is that the guests will sit down(possiblity on the seatbelt), then pull the OTSR down right away, and then try to figure out how to put the seatbelt on without lifting up on the OTSR. It does appear that this problem has been thought of, since the ride ops do mention that when you board the ride to buckle the seatbelt, and then keep the OTSR ABOVE your head.

Hopefully, things will go smooth, and this won't be a problem.

The headline of this news item is BS.  The ride did not open on Saturday.

Why is it BS? It says exactly what Six Flag's press release said.

guess what.......i already rode deja vu!!ha ha.....and the one at sfga! i bet u don't believe me, but i did ride it. it was great!
Well, the press release turned out to be BS
I went to Freight fest on 10/06/2001 and Deja Vu was not open neither was V2 Vertical Velocity.

This was the first full day of Freight Fest and the parks 2 newest coasters were closed.

There was an atricle in the Daily Hearld that said Deja Vu would be open.

This park disappointed alot of people Saturday by closing both rides all day long
I will try again on Sunday

Sunday Oct 7: V2 was still closed.
Deja Vu was closed early in the day.
In the morning the station was surrounded by plastic and heaters were used inside the station.

It seems that this ride may have problems during cold weather.
The ride opened after 1:00 PM I don't know the exact time because I was on the other side of the park when it opened.
Expect to wait over 2 hours if you don't get in line when it opens.

I've been waiting all year for this and i dont think i will get a chance to go this season.  Dont have enough $$ and dont have a ride:(
Looks like I won't get to ride deja vu this season - I overheard that one of the cables snapped during a run.

Maybe I don't want to ride a ride so poorly designed - looks like fun however.

I guess V2 is out for the season as well - what a bad break for SFGAM both new rides broken before the end of their first season.

cheers
