Great American Scream Machine celebration

The trims were NOT on Saturday or Sunday. Ask any of the 12 folks in our group. No trim was ever felt or heard.

**Why does Sea World have a seafood restaurant? I'm halfway through my fish burger and I realize, Oh my gosh....I could be eating a slow learner.**

They're always on. Just because you don't feel it doesn't mean it isn't working.

It's part of the automatic system. The trims can only be turned off in manual mode, and passgengers are not allowed to ride in that mode. In automatic mode, though, the trims are turned on except for the first 5 or 6 cycles each time the ride controller is powered up. This is to prevent rollbacks in the morning.

The Mindbender works the same way.

Well, even if they were on, they weren't on high enough to affect the ride, which is all that matters. But I seriously didn't hear the trims at all; ususally I can tell when they're doing their thing.
Im not too familiar with the way settings with trims work, but i can guarantee you the ride was running faster than ever and if the trims were indeed on, they werent catching when they should have been.

Not a bad thing at all though!

Legendary

Then perhaps the trim brakes have been "loosened." But regardless, I'm fairly certain the automatic program hasn't been modified to turn them off.

I can't for the life of me figure out why people that work at a park act as though they know everything that goes on it running that park, including but not limited to, that braking system of a ride that he/she doesn't work at. I speak for a lot of people when I say just beacause you work at the park doesn't automatically make you God of said park. Damn. I stood on the exit ramp numerous times and, for the last time, never heard, saw, or felt any amount of trim brake.

Sorry you're so angry at the world. You probably have a tough time in life.

Anyway, you really wouldn't know the wealth of operating info I and others know about SFOG. Much of it comes from tests, and what you learn from talking to the electricians, mechanics, and others who work on and with the rides (some of whom program the PLCs).

BTW - I trained at and operated the Cyclone. Good enough for ya?

Life's tough sometimes. You'll live.

The midcourse brakes for SUE were not on the first time I rode on Saturday. We flew right through that without slowing down a bit. Later on in the day (when they SHOULD have put on the SECOND train) the brakes were on and we slowed down to almost a crawl.

And this was my first time at the park since Acrophobia was added. This was the biggest disappointment "anti-y chromozone" ride I have ever been on. Let's think about this. Have all your weight on the groin section, drop then brake really fast. Hmm - I think we will have a few less dads in the world because of this ride. OUCH factor is high. Even my girlfriend said she experienced some pain. I think I will stick with DZ at PKI anyday.

I noticed Deja Valley was closed - do any of you locals know if they are retrofitting the trains to 4 across without the "V"?

Swoosh: you typed SUE, but did you mean S:UF? Anyways. this ride doesn't have a midcourse. There is a trim at the bottom of the first drop that I've never noticed, and other than than you don't get slowed until after the 360 twist.

As far as Acrophobia, it can be painful unless you ride it eh right way. I suggest loose clothing, rocking your hips back so you are more in your bottom, and lifting your fragile materials up and out of the way. I was told to be careful before I ever rode it, and haven't had a problem. I think some people tend to over exaggerate their pain on this ride, or they are tucking themselves under their body (possibly an undergarment issue).

I've still never ridden Deja Vu either, so don't worry. I rode the one at SFMM and it isn't anything to write home about.

Actually, GP is right. They are always "on", but they may have been altered for opening weekend to not hit hard enough to slow the train, or make a sound (in other words, close but not really hit the train), because it was opening weekend and they didnt want to risk a valley b/c of rather new parts.

Acrophobia-"So who up there is scared(everybody screams)? I want everyone who is scared to hold their hands out..."DROP

I guess it's not that terribly important anyway.

Maybe we should get this bus back on the road and out of the ditch. I could have swore this was a topic about GASM Celebration, but it has ran off on a wild tangent. Let's see if we can get this topic back on the right road.

I give up. Some people always know everything.

I don't claim to know everything, but I do know more than you about the SFOG.

Settle down (roll of the eyes).

Rampage, until you've taken the tests that we have to take, then give up on knowing everything about the ride system.

I can't for the life of me figure out why enthuasiasts who go to a park act as though they know everything that goes on it running that park, including but not limited to, that braking system of a ride that he/she doesn't work at.

It makes terribly good sense that the brake pressure would be reduced....not only are there new parts (as CtCF mentioned), but at the beginning of the season the potential is there for colder weather as well...and valleying *plain sucks*. Looks like the cold won't be a problem THIS year though, as Spring has hit rather hard...:).

See ya at "The Fling"...:) And I'll be sure to get PLENTY of laps on ALL the great coasters there...the best SF park IMO, not even close...

1) GP and Chris: Are you both working Good Friday? Send me a photo so I can find both of you to, at least, say hello. Or tell me where you both will be that day.

2) Coasterdave: Yeah or-GASM!!! I thought you said, get out of the gutter.......oh, you mean, the ditch!?!!??!

3) 'Gator: You said that SFoG is the best SF park. My top 3 SF parks are SFMM('91), SFGAm('00), SFoG('95), that is the last year I was there. SFoG has added 4 new coasters since my last trip, why do you feel this park has "IT" over the other 2? I'm curious because I haven't been in 8 years. What changes have they made to create a better atmosphere? Why is SFoG better than SFMM, in your opinion. Thanks for the information, hopefully I can use all of that info you sent me thru email in 4 weeks.....thanks again.

Woody, I'd say based on my recent visits to both SFMM and SFoG that the atmosphere of the park, cleanliness, and friendliness of staff...(present company excepted, j/k, LOL) makes SFoG head and shoulders abve SFMM. X is my #1 steelie even though I'm not the biggest fan of inversions, and the Mountain certainly has some great rides...in STEEL. Once you take into account the wooden wonders at SFoG, that park just comes out on top for me.

Now SFGAm, in just that one visit, sits *thisclose* to SFoG....but then again, we were there on an EMPTY day, and all the coasters were running. The only other SF park that I've been to with "comparable" wood to SFoG....SFA.

At Cyclone no one can have the lap-bar up too high. If it is to high we will push down. Thats something they told us to do because they've seen too many people stand up on the ride. So if you ride cyclone you better sit where you see a lazy person checking seats at because most of us will push all lap-bars down as far as they go. Do any of you take you're seat belts off or loosen them considerably??? Because if you do and a foreman or supervisor sees you, you can be kicked out the park for breaking the rider policies.
X Marks the Spot, theres something I learned a long time ago, no matter what you do, enthuasiasts will find a way around it. When the train leaves the station, if they break the policies, its not our fault. Luckily im at a size where they cant staple me on Cyclone, so I get PLENTY of air regardless.
