Goliath Hatred...

I guess that way my point as to why I said you can see what Goliath is about from the queue. I also find it funny that Goliath rose to #17(from #36) on the Mitch's steel poll. There is some love for it out there, though I can understand why some don't like it.

I guess I represent the few that actualy DO prefer Goliath over Nitro. Nitro is *this close* layout-wise, to being a perfect coaster for my tastes....but then they had to go and put those blasted B&M trains on it. (I *am* an admitted train junkie). Put on Gios, or better yet, I-trains, and Nitro would likely hop into my top-tier steelies....who knows, might even knock *the Big G* out of the top-5...;). But Goliath's "Centrifuge" just rocks my world.

Got one *bad ride* on Goliath during the Con, and we immediately pointed out *the bad wheel* to maintenance...sure enough, the urethane coasting peeled off, and the maintenance guys were *impressed* that we could not only feel the difference, but could even find THE wheel that caused the problem...

DWeaver, can you please explain your signature? The way it reads, you make it sound like it may not be back? Or, do you just love it?

I remember when we lost that wheel, I was in the 4th car front row... But I've lost probably 5 wheels whoile on G, they're composition doesnt hold well.
Well, Goliath made Anna Nicole Smith's assistant Kim cry in an episode where they go to Magic Mountain. I have ridden Titan and Nitro, and I'd say it would be a draw. Both are a little too easy going for my tastes, but both have their highlights.

I liked Goliath (for the record the only hypers I have been on other than the big "G" are Magnum, Raging Bull, Apollo's Chariot, and S:RoS at SFDL.) I consider MF a giga and in a totally different category even though it's the only one in America.

Back to Goliath: I thought the first drop was great, even though it lacks steepness as well as the tunnel at the bottom. I was amazed by the "floater hill" and the high-G carousel curve at the end. Even though the mid course almost stops the train, I can't imagine going through the carousel curve at a higher rate of speed than it already does.

Goliath comes in at #3 on my favorite steel coaster list.

I haven't ridden Goliath, but I have ridden it's sister Titan, and since the only difference between the two is one helix, I'll base my comparison using Titan.

I love the layout of both rides. I don't see it as too short, just a different kind of experience. It has the big drop (and just because your butt may not leave the seat doesn't mean the drop sucks), the airtime hill, (for Titan, the helix), and then crazy curved turns and the intense helix.

What, may I ask, is so wrong about Goliath/Titan?

"Just like Millennium Force, with all of its fualts and none of its benefits". Sorry, its the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the title of the topic.lol.;)

Goliath or Nitro, how dare thee compare the two??? Lets see, Nitro had decent air on three hills excluding the first drop, a nice Helix, and bunnies (You gotta love the bunnies).

Goliath had a shallow (or what seemed to be shallow) drop, an ok airtime hill, a wack MCBBr and a nuetered centrifuge. Guess which one I preferred.

I don't know about the neutered centerfuge thing. It took my daughter 3 rides before she could hold her hands up through the whole helix. Then it became a game to see if she could every ride after.

If you're the kind of person that goes on a ride to have fun, and enjoy a ride for what it is, you'll probably enjoy it.

As intense as Golaith's helix is, I would call it "neutered". For those of us who rode at media day, with the MCB's completely off, IN THE RAIN, the centrifuge just tore us apart. It was sick, and now it's a pretty far cry from what it once was.

Come on down, 'Playa. We'll have the pancakes ready. ;)

I think the "hate" for Goliath is not so much hate as much as it is want for a little more. Perhaps taking it for what it is rather than comparing it to what it lacks is the way to go.

You had better watch out though 'Playa, Big T is ALWAYS breaking down (I swear it has broken down at least twice everyday I have been).

-TSO, who was not impressed with Big T and much prefers the "Little" S at the rear of the park.

I prefer Goliath over Nitro. However while both are fun rides neither of them would make my Top 20.

Nitro made top 4 steel and beat out Goliath. I think Goliath looks hot but short. Maybe everybody can't handle the intensity it serves on the helix so they toned it down, especially after the woman died on it.

I've never grayed-out in Goliath's helix but I know people who have. I don't think either coaster is particularly intense.
