Golden Nugget coming together at Knoebels as Black Diamond

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Knoebels bought the Golden Nugget’s track, trains and mechanics from Morey’s before it was demolished in 2009. The Black Diamond, will have the same track as the Golden Nugget, which was a favorite of the park’s president, Dick Knoebels. But the scenery and stunts will be new and will have a coal mining theme, said Joe Muscato of Knoebels. Two designers are working on plans for the track. The park will chose one of them. Even though Tracy’s original scenery and stunts won’t be part of the Black Diamond, the additions will be designed in his style to preserve the classic feel, Muscato said.

It wouldn't work there; they've never had one.

Or because there are a ton of hotels, 10 minutes away

You're cracking me up, Billb seventy five eighty one. I no longer believe that you are sincere. The joke just HAS to be on us.

On topic, that is really good looking. If Black Diamond is half as exciting as their haunted house, it'll be awesome. Knoebels haunted house is my favorite old-fashioned dark ride, and the only one that makes me jump over and over, every time I ride it.

I don't predict that BD will use the same startle tricks that the old dark ride uses, but it still looks like a lot of fun.

They really look like they have taken a lot of inspiration from the old Golden Nugget... like I said, Jim Melonic working on it is a good sign... as he is the successor to Bill Tracy

I've been to the Golden Nugget, and that ride is a half-assed attempt at best. For starters, where are the blackjack tables?

Hi

The lobster and steak meal for $11 was good, though. And the bartender was pretty cool at like 2am...

^Me too - but man I wish they had an on-site hotel! ;)

Me too. Their cabins are a freaking NIGHTMARE. :)

They've added the 13 cabins they got at the Geauga Lake auction. They look real nice.

^By October, there will be enough mold and mildew to make it seem like they've *always* been at KG. It's part of the charm... ;)

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

Supposedly the ride is done, just waiting for the contractor to finish up the sprinkler system.

That is great to hear. I hope to stop by sometime next month, or maybe hit up PPP for the first time.

Before you can be older and wiser you first have to be young and stupid.

So how many other coasters will Knoebels build and complete before flying turns runs for the first time?

I'm beginning to think that this ride is never going to have an opening day too.

What's the deal? Busch Gardens new for '11 drop ride, and BD... Might as well be new ride for next year, at this pace.

I've been bugging the crap out of a couple of people I know, with knowledge of what's going on, and they're telling me late August is the timetable being thrown around. They're just waiting for the sprinkler contractor to finish up so they can get final approval.

If I had known, maybe I could have helped out. ;)
