Glasses on Coasters

When I first started riding coasters I used to wear a strap for my glasses. As the years went by I stopped doing so and have yet to have my glasses knocked off. Has anyone ever had their glasses jarred loose on a coaster, and if so, which ones?

P.S. I did once lose a notebook out of my shirt pocket on the Viper at SFGrAm.
Once on DrachenFire, I made the mistake of reaching for my glasses while on the ride, and almost lost them.

Other than that experience, I've been on some pretty rough & extreme rides and not had a problem.

The Power Tower at CP requires you to remove glasses, because someone lost a pair last year and a person in the crowd was hurt.
I almost lost a pair of sunglass on Kumba.Going thru the first loop they started to slip off so i just held on to them for the rest of the ride.

I also tried wearing them on Desperado but ended up holding them.
Power Tower allows you to wear glasses if you have a strap. I have a strap that I keep in my pocket, if I encounter a ride where the ops INSIST I remove my glasses, I take out the strap and shut them up :)

I almost lost my glasses on ROAR at Six Flags America, but that's because the friend next to me accidentally hooked them with his hand as we were going down the first drop...

I never had a problem on a coaster. I was on the Canyon River Rapids at Hershey a few years back and the waterfall near the end of the ride knocked them off. Luckily they were holding onto the boat by a single arm on the step. I'll never wear my glasses on them again.
The one thing I don't understand is I can wear my glasses on Millennium Force at CP but not on Ride Of Steel at SFA or Jokers Junk (I mean Jinx). Just another reason to hate SFA.

The Racer once sent mine flying, and on SOB I had someone else's fly within an inch of my upward stretched hands.
there is a solution to everyones' problems..... do as i did and get contacts :)

SFKK made me take out my earrings to ride Batman (or T2, whatever you want to call it now). Has anyone ever had that happen before? Mr. Freeze at SF St. Louis suggested it, but didn't enforce it.

We are the ones who wait in line for hours for a 45-second thrill, and consider it time well spent.
I don't wear glasses nor do I wear ear rings (I'm glad I don't. LOL!), but I use to wear a retainer on the roof of my mouth. In 1996, I went to Cedar Point and I rode the Cedar Creek mine ride. On the helix of the ride, I almost lost the my retainer because I was yelling and having fun. I'm just glad it didn't fall out and land in someone's lap. (BARF! LOL!) Now that would've been gross, huh? :)

P.S. Don't worry I don't wear one anymore. ;)

Punk,

How did you contacts hold up on MF??? I've got contacts and worried about them drying out. Best solution I've come up with is sunglasses and a strap...but that ain't gonna help when I ride at night! *g*
MF is not a problem.Magnum possibly could dry your contacts a little.I rode both just a week ago on a three park tour of SFO,CP and Kennywood. My contacts get dry after a couple of hours at the park.I have Visine For Contacts - "Gets The Dry Out" is what the bottle says.It is a must have for people who love to ride.Once I was forced to remove my contacts because something got in them while I was on the Looping Starship at SFGA,my homepark.
I was under Medusa last summer when a guy lost his sun glasses. They came down hard and fast.Don't stand in line under a coaster if you can help it.
The Great Bear at Hersheypark has a really nice net underneath, over the pond and bridge. ----

Stephanie, my fiancee, lost a contact on Millennium Force riding in the front seat. She hasn't had a problem in any other seat, but the front did her in on the drop.

The only ride I've had problems with glasses on is Mr. Freeze. Other than that, they've been fine on all other rides including Space Shots.

I went out and got some "coaster glasses." At least that's what I call them. They have flexible rubber ends that wrap around the back of the ears. Never have to worry about losing 'em.

5 weeks and counting...
then the Millennium begins for me!
I have never had a problem, since I have a strap that pins the glasses to my head. I would have come back to many stations with my eyes flooded if I didn't wear anything over my eyes.

There's nothing like a woodie...
I usually take my glasses off only when riding coasters with inversions (horsecollars). I too have a stap for my glasses (which I use when playing b-ball). However SFA wouldnt let me ride S:ROS with my glasses even with the strap, go figure.
Contacts aren't a proper solution for everyone -- my eyes, for instance, can't tolerate them (I get eye infections very easily, intentionally putting something in them is NOT a good idea ;) )

Properly fitted glasses should not cause a problem, but I have a strap to keep rideops happy.

As for earrings, there are plenty of coasters where you should/need to remove them. Most of the newer Arrow loopers (Steel Phantom, GASM, etc.) come to mind.

This is so interesting. I don't have a strap and always wear either my glasses or prescription sunglasses on all coasters. Not only have I never lost them, but I've never been asked to remove them. This includes all the biggies: S:ROS, MF, SOB, etc.

i have soft contacts, never had any problems on roller coasters except.....
that insanely awesome ride on villain in the stinging rain. i couldnt open my eyes and my contacts rolled back in my head from the first drop to the first turnaround.

My glasses fell into my lap on the inverted Mind Eraser at SFEG. Now I wear a strap on looping coasters.
