Give reason for closing threads?

Could you give reasons for closing threads? I noticed the thread about the little image on CP's site thread was closed and there was no reason. It makes it a little ambiguous as to the reason(s) for its closure. I really doubt it was anything (back spike of WT), but maybe a reason for closure could be a little helpful.

normally, there is a prefectly good reason for closing a thread without the need for a reason being given. most threads just run their course and then get closed or are closed if they arent going anywhere. i dont really think reasons need to be given in most circumstances

I thought that particular one was obvious.

Oh, okay. My bad. I was just wondering why it was closed. I found it rather amusing.

I dont like when posts are deleted because you dont know what was wrong with it...

I agree. It might help prevent people from posting topics that are in violation. Remember, there are a lot of young posters who don't always know what the problem is with a thread. I think it is a good suggestion.

For the most part, I'd rather Jeff and the other mods use the time they spend here to *contribute* to real conversation, rather than wax on about why meaningless drivel is closed or deleted.

Jeff's hysterical, really, and I would hate to see less things that are dripping with sarcasm and such because he has to spend extra time writing, "Closed because you're an idiot." or whatever.

So, there.

But the big question a lot of time seems to revolve around *WHY* something violates the rules. Jeff seems like a decent person so I wouldn't think he would be the type to call someone an idiot for posting something that violates the TOS. The moderators on the baseball board on which I post always give a reason for locking a thread. IMO, I just think it should be common courtesy to just give a brief reason why something is closed or how it violates the rules. Like I stated above, that would also save some time because then people might not post as many topics that violate and we wouldn't have to worry about calling people idiots as much. Does anyone at least see the point I am trying to get across? I really do not find it all that difficult to understand.

Hey, I thought that was my occasional, self-appointed task. Hmm. Guess you learn something new every day.

See, this is exactly what I have to remind CBaby every now and then....that I don't owe her her PC, her TV time, her season pass, that big stupid trampoline her mommy bought her or the lifestyle she's so accustomed to.

Likewise, nobody owes you bandwidth, posting rights, membership, rules, reasons, regulations or an explanation for anything they do on this or any other site. If you get it, you get it and if you don't, you don't. Ya don't like it, go somewhere else.

Do I need a reason? Does it even have to break a rule? I don't think it does. You have no idea how hard it is to just bite my tongue and not respond to some of the insanely stupid things that get posted. Only those of you who know me in real life could really have an appreciation for the amount of restraint I use online.

But you're right, it's rare that I'll call someone an idiot online. In real life, it's something entirely different.

I was just about to post a reply to the topic titled "Gigacoaster" Right when I hit repley it said the topic had been closed. Why was that? Also, I like stupid little forum topics some times. Some forum topics just get way to seriouse.

When you see 15 topics about the same park, all on page one, all dealing with a PARKING LOT or some such...for crying out loud, do NOT begin another topic....it will usually get deleted, and I really think posting a reason for closing it is entirely unnecessary....but then again, the same *moron* will begin another thread immediately after the first one closes to whine and b*tch....spare us all, please! The mods don't need it, the rest of us don't need it, move on....

Believe it or not, there are "lots of parks" out there....not just the *parking lot* to your home park....

This web site is like a private school. It is better than what is out there but it has rules and standards that are stranger and more far fetched than I have seen before. It's also like the people on here are commies and unless you feel the way they do, you are the outcast and do not belong. That isn't to say I dislike the site. I happen to like it a lot because of all the info and hard work that goes into it. But, everything has its flaws. My big flaw is the fact that I love to complain. But hey, who doesn't?

I think that's the harshest thing I've ever seen you say, Bill....

It's now college football season. The only thing that makes coasters take a back seat. This also means Rollergator is the enemy again... for 4 months.

Personally, I think that reasons would be nice. You could even have a bunch of short, concise "canned" reasons that you could just paste into a last post. I personally understand most of your reasons for deleting threads, but the real reaso nyou would do this is, as has been mentioned, to let the person who started the thread understand. Because he/she started the thread, he/she obviously doesn't understand why it violates the terms of service. Posting a reason might not always enlighten him/her, but it should do something.

As for talking about parking lots... Rollergator, if you want your park talked about, just start a thread about it! Personally, I think that, aside from some trip reports, the most interesting things that go on in the coaster world from September to October are what appear in the parking lots of various parks. But, yeah, it can go overboard.

Comrade, have you ever seen a private school run by communists? Private schools are the tools of the capitalist swine who do not believe education is the right of all the people. I think perhaps you have been standing in the line for vodka too long. Dah. I theenk so.

How can anyone respond to that? First you have to decide which side of the socio-political spectrum we're most like. A little help?

I can see it now: The same people who b*tch that they want an explanation for their topic being closed will cry because they were made an example of or treated unfairly when it does happen.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The lack of noise is what brings me back here. If you think the rules are too strict, peruse the "Sites" link at the top of each page and you are sure to find plenty of forums and message boards that let you post whatever gets your motor running.

BTW, Jeff's closing post on the "Gigacoaster" thread was priceless. I almost posted the exact same thing, but I decided not to dignify it with a response and let the mods handle it.
