GhostRider Seems Dangerous Now!

On Saturday, I went down to KBF and went on GhostRider first because it's my favorite woody. It was a great ride for the morning but when I took my 6 year old cousin on it, the ride seemed to be out of control. Her lap bar did not come all of the way down and I was forced to hold her in. The first four drops were okay until that turnaround thing over the station area. It flew down the next hills and it felt like the train was going to fly off of the track. I know that woodies get faster throughout the day but this was insane!!! My little cousin flew out of her seat so high and so many times and I had to hold her in tightly. This coaster has never gone that fast! The banked curve drops seemed really bumpy and tight. I think CCI better fix those lap bars so little people can enjoy that great coaster and not fly out. After I got off, I experienced neck pain. My aunt also told me that some guy died on GhostRider when it first opened. Is this true? I can believe it.

LOL!!! Thank God you guys were ok. I have experienced Ghostrider when it seemed out of control, so I know how you must of felt. BTW, no one has been killed on Ghostrider to this date. Man, your giving me a craving for this ride, I can't wait until January 13th!!!

I wish I was in your cousin's seat especially if the lapbar didn't come all the way down!

God Bless Ghostrider!!!

Say no, to lap bar nazis!
Ahh, Ghostrider. The one rollercoaster where riders scream loudest halfway through the ride.
Ghostrider is wild alright. I think it's haunted, cause it maintains it speed so well.
Haunted maybe. I prefer to think of it as the magic of CCI :)

Why do the riders scream the loudest halfway through the ride?

I wish I could ride Ghostrider, I live in Ohio.
Well, the first half of Ghostrider is killer, filled with airtime, quick turns and head choppers. But the second half(especially at night), features one of the great drops in coaster history, and then Ghostrider completely looses control, screaming across the tracks, and us screaming right along with it. The second half of this ride just may be the most intense 45 seconds of any coaster this side of Shivering Timbers. If your Cedar Point, THIS is the next coaster you build, period. Forget the record breakers.

I've never ridden this coaster, but it's been getting such awesome reviews that I think Cedar Point may just get a clone of this ride. If not a clone, this probably a ride as intense and bigger. It would fit nicely in the "L" in the front of the park.
You said that you had to hold your cousin while riding. But, GR has seatbelts, so what was the problem? Were the belts broken as well?
Actually, Metrock, that is a VERY good point. The lapbar never goes all the way down for me. The thing that holds me tight in my seat is the seat belt. Neglect to wear the seatbelt could be dangerous, because the lapbars seem almost for show more than anything else. There is no way they would run the ride without the seatbelts, because that would be way too dangerous!
SHHHHHH! Don't let Cedar Fair here this or Ghostrider will be the next woodie to be trimmed to death in the Cedar Fair family.

When the lap bar is all the way down, it should be no less than 6-11/16 inches from the bottom of the lap bar to the top of the seat bottom cushion, assuming no compression of the seat cushion. It doesn't go any lower than that, or at least it isn't supposed to. On most coasters, probably including GhostRider, the ride forces are calculated in such a way that while ride forces may (and in the best coasters, do) lift riders out of their seats, the ride forces should never be so strong as to lift riders clear out of the train.

The forces on Colossus at SFMM used to be great enough to throw the rider out of the car if they were not properly straped in. A fat chick died on the ride because the lap bar would not go down and the -2 g's threw her out. So a year later it was reprofiled. How nice.
I know the enterance to the helix on Twister at Knoebels wants to throw you out of the train in the second row (especially if you only go two or three clicks on the lap bar). :) Scares me everytime.

When I went on the Outlaw at Adventureland, the lapbar was a one that only went down to one position. A foot off of your lap. I didn't bother to pull it so it would be even somewhat tight. Anyway, halfway through the ride I had the honor of riding the world's first wooden stand-up coaster. The next time I went on it, I pulled the seat belt a little tighter.
Do these people not think to hold onto the grab bar. I rode Desperado without the lap bar down at all. And I mean, at all. I am still alive. :)

The seat belt did not tighten all of the way as well. My cousin is very small - 49 inches and very skinny.

GhostRider is an awsome out of control woodie!!!
This coaster is perhaps the only one that makes me feel comfortable enough to be super obnoxious, screaming in the person's ear ahead of me. I think everyone in the train is doing the same.
