Is there a name for getting back on a free seat in a ride immediately after getting off (when there's a line: not when they let you re-ride)?
I refer to it as "poaching" but I'm wondering if there's already a name for it.

How is that line jumping?
He is talking about, after riding, no one is in your line, so you ride it again.
At PKD, you can do that all the time on Woodies during Weekdays, and sometimes during Sundays. Anaconda is another good one to on as well.

I dont consider it linejumping at all.
For example:
Over the summer, i visited SFA. For S:RoS there were basically just lines for the front row, and a couple in the middle. After riding front, i skipped to the back. When the train returned, there were some people waiting for the back row. There were other "empty" rows, so i continued to skip around until eventually there was a wait for every row. I racked up about 6 - 10 rides before i had to leave the station.
If you are not doing anything to increase anyone elses wait whom is in front of you, then why would you call it linejumping? If someone was waiting, i would leave. If not(and if the RideOps dont have a problem)then why leave to walk all the way back through the que just to ride in the empty row in front of you?
If nobody is waiting in that immediate row in front of you(or wherever for that matter)i see no reason to consider it linejumping. I agree with the term "power-riding".

Actually, the original question specifically asks about if there IS a line. As in hopping in an empty seat, perhaps.
"Poaching" is a good term for it. I also call it "skanking", or "maximizing capacity", depending on my mood ;)

If it's ME doing it, it's "maximizing capacity" (Viper at SFGAm)....if someone else jumps into that empty seat in front of me, then THAT is "skanking"....
edit: I should note here that if t's a park I've been to before, and it's a ride I've done before, I'll walk around....SFGAm is quite a hike from here, though...

If the line is not full, or if it doesn't have a train worth of people in line, I don't consider it to be line-jumping if it's obvious that the next train cannot be filled by the time the operators are ready to dispatch. If such is the case, and someone asks me, I will most of the time, allow guests to stay on any seat except the front or the back. If someone "assumes" that they can stay, then I politely ask them to go back around in line. As far as I'm concerned, it's not a right, but rather a special "gift" given to guests.
And if the park is completely dead, I will tell departing passangers that they are welcome to ride again (under the previously described conditions), so that they can decide whether to move on to the next ride, or stay for a couple rides.

"Vulturing" is what my friends and I call it, but among the "mooshies" there are three in particular who are experts, but I won't name names ;-)
BTW...if the airgates open and close and there is still an empty seat, I don't feel that's line jumping. If someone doesn't take the seat its going out empty.

touche, chris.....I don't do it often, but Viper really was THAT good....ROFL....you are TOO much!
I absolutely HATE sending empty seats....luckily, FL parks have mastered the art of FILLING the trains...single-riders, anyone?

How about the simple term "re-riding" ? It's always worked for me.-------------

Absolutely, buddy!
That's exactly what I was going to say. I love it when I get to re-ride on a coaster, especially if it's a new-to-me park/ride. At SFDL the op let us re-take our seats on SROS, even when the station was jam-packed. The people in our row were waiting to ride with their "friends" and the attendant just said "well, you guys can have a seat if you want it again"
worked for me.

I just called it re-riding.
I don't allow it with a ride, because when guests see one person do it, then EVERYONE wants to do it, and it just gets to be a real mess.
If the station was desolate, I didn't mind.
