Geauga "Traditional Family Park"

i went by the park this weekend... i saw several mobile cranes waiting to get busy...hope they're only there for inspections...
saw two cranes by superman... one by the waterslides (the new ones put in last year...i'll keep posting if i see anything...
Superman is getting new supports. Nothing will be coming down or moved to other parks, especially a coaster.

Cedar Fair did not spend $145 million in this place only to remove the key attractions. *** Edited 3/22/2004 7:49:29 PM UTC by bigkirby***

LOL! Thanks for catching it gator. ;)

The most crowded area I have ever seen is Magnum's station. Man, it's worse than several of those bottleneck points in the parks. A lot of areas in DW have this problem too. Will they ever learn.

Nothing will top the Magic Kingdom on New Year's Eve at WDW. You don't know the term bottleneck until you have experienced that. The bad news: It is hot as heck. The good news, when you pass out from heat exhaustion you won't fall down because the people standing shoulder to shoulder with you will keep you propped up.

I have heard that they shove nearly 90K people in there on that night. Even if it isn't that many...it feels like it.

A traditional family park, is a park for the whole family. But CF is not stupid they know with the lose of the animals it would be a smart investment to keep the current atractions. CF is not in the ride sharing type program, that was just a way to help six flags save money. (IMO sixflags incorp. has alot of growing up to do to keep the Gp happy) I don't really see any of Geauga Lakes current rides leaving. CF likes to build inovative rides that draw in the crowds not used rides.

Yeah, riiiiiiggggghhhhhhtttt, D....maybe next time...;)

Wahoo, from talking to managers at the Magic Kingdom on new Years, they did reach capacity (by 9 am one said) and while they didn't say an exact mumber, the said it was more than 70,000 but less than 90,00. But an hour before spectro Magic that night, things got nuts. All 80,000 people or so all converged on main street. After the fireworks, we went to see Philhar Magic, leaving from the very end part of main street. It took us 1.5 hours to get to Philhar Magic, a walk that would normally take 15 min tops.

As for Geauga, I never really noticed the paths being an issue, even in the places where several people have pointed out. But they arn't nearly as wide as the ones at Cedar Point. As for why they need to do at Geauga is get some world class shows. A Snoopy Vs. Red Barron Fantasmic style style night show on the lake to close out the day would be awesome. Actually, making it so Geauga has several world class shows (more than just signing and dancing) would truely make this a family park.

Ahhh come on Gator, at least give me the benefit of the doubt! ;)
I'm sure a lot of us are full of ideas and suspicions about what Cedar Fair is going to do with Geauga Lake. I, myself, have some thoughts but I'm trying to keep my wanderings a little more grounded. I don't think that CF would take the time and massive amounts of money to dismantle any large ride at GL, when they can keep those rides there and build newer and more up to date rides at the other parks that have been mentioned. I'm not saying that GL rides are out of date, but as a business, it would be foolish. I hope and PRAY that CF will keep the Wild Life side of the park and not sell it off. The CEO, Dick Kinzel himself said that he wouldn't be surprised to see a "Magnum" type coaster go into GL within a few years. Just think of looking across the lake from the Hurricane Harbor docks and seeing a large steel coaster completely going from one end (Happy Harbor) to the other end (Pearl Divers) of the lake. It would certainly bring people to that side of the park. Wouldn't you rather see that than a Housing development. I know I would. People please, I emplore you, write Cedar Fair and tell them NOT to sell that side of the park. Give them ideas of what you'd like to see. They said they want to make it a more family oriented park. Why not make a very welcoming place like Holiday World, with free soft drinks, free parking, EXTRA courtious employees and more. Keep the Happy Harbor area for the kids and build a little on that so there are children areas on BOTH sides of the park, (and I don't even have a child young enough to say that.)With the stadiums that are already there, use them as entertain venues, like the killer whale stadium as a concert type place like Kings Island has next to the Eiffel Tower. There are so many ideas to do with that area and selling it off SHOULD NOT BE ONE OF THEM. I hope that most all of you agree. Let's have a great summer.
When is CF going the GL wed site up and going? The GL wed site still have Six Flags logos and designs on it. I like to know the price to get in and hope they cut the price of parking down. I also wondering what are the new names on some of the coasters?
I had no idea they offered weddings at Geauga Lake. I do know the purchase isn't finalized and until it is you probably won't see much of anything happening.
Just being curious, to all the CP season pass holders, does CP offer parking stickers? Or do you have to pay to park everytime you go? I was just wondering because SFWoA was going to offer the parking sticker again this season just curious as to if it will continue.

Well if parking is like it is at WOF, the parking decal is right on your season pass and then you just have to flash it when you get to the parking gates.

Cedar Point does car stickers, or if you're in the Joe Cool Club, you get a big "P" on your season pass.

If the deal is not yet finalized, does that mean it still might not happen? How soon will it need to be finalized for Cedar Fair to remove/change copyrighted signs/logos?

I like the idea of writing to Cedar Fair with our ideas. Does anyone have an appropriate address?

I'm sure that a lot of higher ups at CP read Coasterbuzz. If your park sponsered a website, wouldn't you like to check it out every once in a while, especially when half of the posters are CP cheerleaders (no offense intended, I'm one too)? I have no doubt that we don't need to write them and tell them what we said on CB, because they already know.

Kennywood has thrill rides, and they are a traditional family park. I see no reason GL can't have traditional family park status and theme even with all of those loops. I DO think they need some more family friendly coasters though.

Well, I certainly agree with your last sentence, as I always wanted to see Geauga Lake get some kind of well-themed mine train coaster with tunnels a la Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Adventure Express, or the Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain. I don't think any of these types rides would not work in their concept of a "traditional family park" as the first coaster I mentioned comes from the ultimate family park and the last one comes from what I at least consider to be a traditional park. Considering rides like the Exterminator at Kennywood, some well themed dark rides or coaster hybrids would certainly not be out of place at Geauga Lake and by contrast would in fact be new and exciting for the park.

Here's something to consider: Maybe as Geauga Lake, they'll bring back those great chili-footlongs they used to make... when i was a kid, it wasn't a day at the park without eating at least three of those. (of course, that was before i read about meat-packing plants...) The Oscar Meyer stands they had, blew bigtime... 4 bucks for a hotdog?!?! 4 bucks for 20 oz's of water?!?! i was waiting for them to change the name to: Six Flags:Return of the British Empire... imagine the rides! The Boston Aquafina Party. a logflume ride where the logs look like Bottled Water... better yet! The TAXMAN coaster! it would be like the X coaster only it whips you into tree limbs... whatever they 'were' doing, it was seriously Six Flags: Worlds of Disaster...
^ roflmao... i think that gets the post of the week award :)
