Geauga Lake purchase was a big secret

Posted | Contributed by Gemini

The deal in which Cedar Fair, L.P. agreed to buy Six Flags Worlds of Adventure was a surprise to all but a very few people when it was announced Wednesday. The deal was developed over several months in secret talks designed to minimize any effect on the stock values of either publicly traded company.

Shouka isn't homeless. They mentioned on the news Friday that she was going to a "San Francisco area park," which I assume means SFMW.
LoL... Six Flags is hopeless... their website still says "Six Flags: Worlds of Adventure -- Now hiring for the 2004 season -- Opening May 1st."

You'd think that any good webmaster would have pulled that down already.

Newman, the sale isn't final yet. There are still negotiations that need to be completed.

Shouka to SFMW is a done deal Jeff, announced somewhere already. The rest goes to Frontier City or to GAdv's Safari park....or to the Mooseburger Lodge...;)
Shouka the killer whale or orca whale will be coming to Six Flags Marine World along with 4 dolphins according to a website. After MW's two orca whales died, the park lost it's sole. Before Premier Parks prior to their purchase of Six Flags accuired Marine World, the whales were the featured and most popular attraction before the coasters and rides arrived. With no major rides expected there this year, the return of a killer whale will be high on their marketing plans.
It's sad when SF has to call Sea World to help arrange the transport of some of the Marine life in the park.

I find it a little sad these animals are going. Most of the public doesn't see this or know about it, but there was a huge educational program at SFWOA where schools and other groups came in on field trips and some even had sleep overs in Shark Experience. I had the pleasure of being with some of these kids last week and you could tell by the look in them it was one of the best experiences the've had.

While atthe supervisor orientation last week we were told that until the sale is final and signed we must operate like we're opening on May 1 as SFWoA. Business as usual we were told. In case the sale falls through we have to be ready to operate on opening day. So I'm sure that as soon as the line is sign that will be done with in a day.

I seriously cannot believe this. I am furious! But on the other hand, I want to cry. I've been visiting Sea World twice a year for the past 22 years of my life. It was really sad and disappointing to hear about this. The only reason I ever went to Six Flags was to see the animals on the Sea World side of the park. Cedar Fair or Geauga Lake is really going to lose some business this year. My opinion is that Six Flags shouldn't have bought a park in Ohio if they were just going to be selling it 3 years later. Oh well. I'm just really upset and disappointed and really emotional right now!

Yeah, Six Flags spent the last few years thinking that the combined park would increase attendance, and look where it got them.

SeaWorld was gone when Busch sold it. It was never even remotely the same after that, something evident to me when I visited SeaWorld in Orlando that year.

Yeah, I hear ya, Kittykat. I'm just as upset as you are. HOW DARE Cedar Fair buy the park!? God forbid they start sweeping pathways and maintaining rides. I really hope they don't use that Cedar Point-like efficiency on the coasters, I'm going to miss the long lines. And those poor, poor defenseless animals with no home now! I hope they don't all freeze to death just standing on the corners holding up signs that say "will entertain for food." I really wish they had somewhere nice and safe to go. It's too bad that so few people actually went to visit them at their old home.
10-15 minutes per ride on any day of the season was a long line? With Six Flags running the show they had the best capacity imaginable, they kept people out of the park all together. lol. How sad it is I'm teasing my former employer, oh well, I wish the sale never happened, but it did, I sucked it up and moved on and looking forward to a company that cares.
I had season passes the last few years for Six Flags Worlds of Disaster. was okay the first year, but every year after that, you could see a decline... last year, the Marine side looked bad. half the food kiosks weren't open and the ones that were, were a bad joke... Funnel Cakes and Beer??? great stall that was... lol beer and powdered sugar, yum-gag... seriously, i'll miss shouka and the dolphins, but they've got to be better off anywhere else. giving credit though, the people that tended the whale and the dolphins were very good. I hope they bring bak the Flying Scooters...
