Geauga Lake: now serving pornography

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

While Ohioans continue to call Six Flags Worlds of Adventure by the name Geauga Lake, the old Internet domain name now appears to be owned by a Russian pornographer.

To respond to and qualify Kirby's point...

I was once looking for a rare and expensive book to rent from my local library. When the local site and Library of Congress site failed me, I decided to invent some domain names. I typed in librarysearch.com and, lo and behold, boobies instead of books!

Yes, porn on the Internet is rampant and is not helping our culture one bit. But it's not Six Flags fault that they let a dated domain name go and some pornographer decided to pick it up (though, like John Peck, I would really like to know what "geauga" means in German). It's not Six Flags' fault, so it shouldn't be an issue. As a good friend of mine once said, "S#!+ happens." There's nothing you can do about it, so we might as well just let it go, because there really is nothing legitimate here to debate.

Got to be Goofy -- June 29, 2001???
I can't believe this happened! But I personally believe they will have to get over it. If I were SFWoA I would be PLASTERING their web site address on commercials, billboards, advertisements, etc.

What I can't understand is WHY?

Why geaugalake.com? Are there NO OTHER domain names left? My God, have some originality and make something up on your own.

The porn doesn't offend me nearly as much as the laziness.

I refuse to add a signature. Damn, too late.
I know I'm gonna get censored for this eventually, but I think this whole story is going to bring extra, unneeded curious fan attention to that site. I wouldn't be surprised if on the temp, their hits pick up... Just had to speak my peace.

It's coming...
To Address everyone on my post:

I am not trying to start a debate here either. It's just plain sad, and our kids are being exposed to this as well. I believe overall, the theme park industry has gotten more moral and more family oriented(even the big parks) Let's hope that good will tradition continues

Boy this really hit us hard......it's a shame to see this happen to our beloved park, not to mention those that made it what it was for over a century.

Hey John....ask your other roommate what Geauga means in German.....he should know!!!

Here we go... don't give me this crap about what kids are being exposed to blah blah blah. If you're raising your kids right then you can trust them to make the right decisions.

If you don't like porn, don't look at it, but don't hide behind the "it's bad for our kids" nonsense. I was raised right, I subscribe to Playboy and Maxum (not really porn, but close), and yet I have a fabulous wife (who reads the articles), own my car, bought a house, have a well-paying job and I'm still sociable and fun at parties. What a shocker, despite my interest in a little porn, I'm not a rapist, child molester or predator (not to mention I'm not a social retard who sits in a room all day looking at the stuff).

You should thank the porn industry for pushing Internet technology. I've got news for you... e-commerce and streaming media technology was pushed because of on-line porn. It's the reason you can watch your little POV videos.

Six Flags didn't protect one of its names, that's what this thread is about. Nothing more.

Amen to that, Jeff. I think you just described MY life, though. Get your own! ;-)

Jeff, I'm really not trying to start something, I promise. Still, I've gotta ask you something. You said, "If you're raising your kids right then you can trust them to make the right decisions." Yet, in the next paragraph, you said that you yourself subscribe to Playboy and Maxum. Is this how you are going to "raise kids right" or is it going to be acceptable in your eyes for your kids to be exposed to porn?

Is it just me or does Hypersonic look like one of those coasters you would see on Looney Toons?

I don't have kids. When I do, they aren't going to see it, but they will be educated about sex and the values I think they should have. I can't be with them at all times, but I can talk to them and trust them to make good decisions.
