Gay Day Gathering

I think it would be a neat idea to have a "gay day" gathering at an amusement park for all enthusiasts. Not that this is a "promotional" thing, just something where we can all get together and hang out for the day and have a good time.

Any ideas??

PKI usually has a great Gay Day sometime in September. A local gay organization sells tickets for the event. It usually is on a Saturday or Sunday night. They close the park early, get everyone out and then let in the people with tickets for the event. The lines are short, the crowd is fun and it's a great time. If I find the info, I'll post it on here for you.

EDIT: I sent you an email with a link. There's more info on the event there.

Every day is mullet day at SFWoA. :)

I had the pleasure of seeing a mullet family there...even Mom had one! :)

That's actually one of my favorite past-times! Mullets are the greatest! I've got onride video of Twister at Knoebels of a mullet freeflowing in all of its glory..... I need to upload that someday.

OT: I saw three generations of mullets walking together last Saturday at Celebration City. I have a photo - it was too good not to take a photo. :) LOL!

Argh, that reminds me, I'm so mad!

Apparently, NASCAR jackets are some new fashion thing with the young-uns out here in So. Cal. (dunno if it's anywhere else), I've been seeing a number of teenage girls wearing Jeff Gordon jackets, Tony Stewart, etc etc.

So I see this girl who is, by all measures, relatively large and, IMHO, not particularly attractive, wearing a NASCAR jacket with "VIAGRA" emblazoned across the back. Now, I'm not an attractive man by any stretch of the imagination so it's a bit unfair of me to pass judgement, but nonetheless, I ended up laughing for about 5 minutes at that.

I WISH I had had my camera....

From Gay Days to Mullets, you'll find it here...

Anyway, I think (like most things in the world today) this whole topic was blown way out of proportion. The guy wanted to know if there could be a day where gay enthusiasts could meet at a park. He didn't say park-sponsored. He didn't ask for a national holiday. He didn't even ask for group rates! Just wanted to know if some gay people could "get together and hang out for the day and have a good time." No difference between his idea and you and your friends "meeting at the front gate at 11 a.m."

BTW there is a Gay Pride Day in June but since I am not gay I'm not sure which date it was. I saw it once on a calender I got from my former employer
I think this has become much more construed from what was intended. I was simply reaching out to everyone, seeing if a group of people would like to get together and go to a park. I wasn't asking for the park to host a special day, or asking for any preferential treatment. Just simply a get-together for a group of like minded individuals, a chance to make some new friends who are not going to judge them for "what" they are. I apologize for any misconceptions.
There are gay days, look at www.gayrollerride.com for a list.

The interesting thing is that days devoted to religious groups, social groups and other associations of people have been a part of amusement parks for a long time. For instance, look at Kennywood's calendar:

http://www.kennywood.com/ev.cfm

They have lots of different ethnic days and have been doing so for quite some time. Is it too much of a stretch for Disney and other parks to include newer social groups in their social days if they see fit?

That's all Western Europe and Mediterranean. Where are the larger ethnicity classes like Latin, Asian, and African American? Seems like we need to fit those in before we add social groups. Also, we must first add thong day ;)

You ever been to Pittsburgh? Nearly every 'burgher has a lineage that stretches to at least two of those ethnic groups.

Also, 'burghers are not known for their, ah, svelteness. I'd pass on the whole thong day thing.

Personally I think just being my *gay self* on any operating day at a theme park is enough for me, and probably those around me as well. I have never understood the need for special days. Having participated in some, they may be fun but I often feel they draw negative attention from other park goers. A group of friends being themselves, and possibly being noticed by others for not overwhelming the park, probably affects others more positively.

So yes why not organize your own get together, but please don't overwhelm the general public just because you can!

You may want to try out the meeting calendar hear on coasterbuzz.

You don't think it would be fun to feel like one of the crowd once in a while? Folks with mullets get to feel like they're part of the crowd all the time. Why not you??

I remember going to Disneyland just before one of the Rosebowls as a kid. Gazillions of Iowa jackets. I didn't feel overwhelmed by the throngs of Hawkeyes. I thought it was kinda neat actually.l

Being in the crowd is what makes you feel like apart of the crowd. Look around next time you're at the park, everybody is not the same. Each person has something that they may feel indifferent about, but atleast you're having a good time. There are gay people, goths, minorities, bikers, Girl Scouts, a beer belly or two, Mooshnicks, a fat granny, and even drug dealers ;) Tell how any of those people feel apart of the crowd? Because they are at the park enjoying themselves, they are apart of the crowd.

This is more of a problem of self acceptance. If you can accept yourself for being who you are and they can't accept you, then kick their fat *** of the train and tell them that you'll enjoy the ride.

We'll kick them all off, put M:TR and N:TOP in the front, and we'll be ready to go!!! :>)

Okay, you have a point.

I still think folks shouldn't feel threatened by or resentful of a group of people getting together en masse at a park or any other public place. If the park wants to attract such groups by giving them special treatment, more power to them. If it is a group that I find morally reprehensible, I'll say see ya later.

Just because a group of gays is at the park doen't keep it from being a "simple day at the park."

Ay, nothing has impact on me during a trip to Kennywood except the Phantom and Spice Girls playing in the queues, makes me wanna punch the speakers.

It's not as if the parks go and paint everything pink, after all. . .

Well, okay, there was that one time in the Magic Kingdom. But, we pretend it didn't happen.

However, I feel it's my duty to point out that the coopting of M:TR references into some bizarre homosexual agenda has me terrified and I think it should stop. ;)

Vertiogo sez: "Because they are at the park enjoying themselves, they are apart of the crowd."

Post of the week, Vertigo...well said! That's precisely why I don't attend special gay days. Heck, every time I'm at a park I see at least a dozen or so other gays and lesbians in the crowds.

Maddie - I always have a gay agenda. Today it's to find something to eat for lunch and see "Charlie's Angels" tonight at 5:15.

I apologize for trying to speak for anyone here. My bad.

I guess all that I mean to say is that if a group wants to have a special day at a park or any other entertainment venue for whatever reason, I don't take offense. I'm not going to whine about my group not having a special day because I know that if I really wanted to, I could get one together and do that. And to heck with folks who take offense to it.

They say in Washington there's a Supreme Court Justice then who can get you tickets for that show tonight. ;)
