Gatekeeper Media Day.

So who all here is going?

I've been debating attending. On one hand, going to CP in the middle of the night is a dream come true for me. And this whole experience sounds like a unique opportunity that some of us might not ever get again. I'm also betting that getting some rides will be easier on Media Day than when the park opens to the public.

On the other hand, I don't have any friends interested in going, and this could be awkward standing around solo, with cameras all around. Sometimes events like these will draw those very hardcore fans that are beyond what I can relate to.

With only an 85-minute drive though, I guess I could always abort after a ride if I wasn't enjoying myself.

I'd love to go to a Media Day event. Wish CP was closer.

I will be there. One or two rides will be more than enough. I dont plan on trying to get as many rides as i can by waiting the entire day.

All you need for it as mentioned is the coaster club membership and then you have to sign up on the Cedar Point website. However, they have been experiencing some difficulty with that which makes me question whether i have actually signed up completely for it.

Tony Clark said that they have fixed those issues. So with all that being said hope to see a few of you out there.

Jeph, im with you on the part of having a camera shoved in my face. I really will politely decline those kinds of things. I don't want to come off looking like a Paul Reuben or anything like that.

I plan on being there. Might not stay for the entire day, but I do plan to arrive early. I don't mind if there's a lot of standing around, as I'm somewhat familiar with how these things work after doing several commercial shoots. I've always wanted to be a part of a media day, so I'm pretty excited to have this opportunity.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

I'll be there. I'm not sure that I'll be there at 4a but I agree that would be awsome. I'm about 2.5 away so I'll be staying overnight somewhere then trying to get up. I'd sure like to see it run all lit up, and hopefully snag a night ride if possible.

Jeph, i'll likely be solo, you can hang with me if you want. Between rides we'll stand over there and talk about everybody, k?

Haha ok, that takes care of one problem. And I suppose I can sport a red 3-foot Mohawk and cover my face with tattoos/piercings/holes to avoid being harassed by media crews. I'm in.

I'll be there with some friends, and I think we're aiming for early morning if not 4 a.m. I'd kinda like to see the sunrise from Gatekeeper's lift hill. :) Not sure how long we'll stay... probably play it by ear depending how the day goes.

^. Seeing GK all lit up will be nice as well! I can't wait to see the lights on the trains!

And I'll be the one in the bright orange Dollywood Wild Eagle hoodie! See ya there!

Is CP unlike other parks when it comes to media days? I seem to recall from long long ago being told that "gear" from rides/parks other than the one being debuted were deemed unacceptable attire - "we're here to promote ride X" kind of idea.

Just curious....oh, and on further reflection, my last one was SWF Manta...and they were also very clear about what clothing was/was not OK to wear...

Mr. 'gator, I was just kidding with Jeph about avoiding cameras. I musta forgot my winkie. Sorry.

But seriously folks, for media day we should all avoid loud, graphic clothing, especially advertising other rides in other parks.

In case it's chilly I have my nice grey Cedar Point hoodie and in case it's not a nice neutral tshirt all pressed and ready to go.

We are signed up to go. The only thing that could stop us from being there is if my daughter has a make-up softball game scheduled that day. She's already had the first 2 games of the season canceled this week, stupid rain.

This might be the perfect occasion to open one of my 5 nicely-pressed Cedar Fair VIP jackets. With that embroidered status, I'm practically guaranteed choice seat on each train. And the camera crews won't want to interview the dude inside of a garbage bag.

I'll be heading down from the Ann Arbor area, likely solo as my typical theme park companions are unable to miss work. If anyone wants to meet up on the way to - or at the park let me know and we can work out details.

I've been mostly lurking on the sidelines for the ten years I've been a member of CoasterBuzz but would love to meet some of you guys if a larger meetup is being planned.

I will be travelling down from the Novi area, and may be bringing my daughter along. That would depend on school requirements. So there's a 50/50 chance I'll be by myself. I am going to try and be there before sunrise, since I'm rarely at the point when it's dark, and a night ride, if possible, would be wonderful.

Yep, I'll be there. Travelling over Wednesday night and staying all weekend with a small group of friends. Looking forward to the rides! Not looking forward to seeing 3:30 am as the start of the day....

I call Cedar Point my home park even though I live in the Chicago Suburbs.

I'm not going cause D_vo's going.

Actually, that's a lie - I'll be, hopefully, bringing a growler of Kona Big Wave. :)

At what point does "Media Day" just become a clever name for an enthusiast event where only one ride is open?

Because I suspect we're there.

A "FREE" enthusiast event, Gonch. lol

I just want to reiterate to everyone that this even is open to members of a club, and not to guests of those members. Everyone who attends this even must belong to a club. They will want to see your club card when you get there. I just have a feeling that some people are overlooking this key point. lol

I'm not going, because it is a 5.5 hour drive for me, and when I drive that far for a park, I want it to be completely open.
