Demolition Permit Filed at Disney Resort, Area Set to Be Destroyed

These things actually make me wish I had serious Photoshop game. I'd start my own Disney click-bait satire site, but with literal depictions.

I only see the Disney stories when people post them here because I don't follow Disney enough for any of those stories to hit my feeds. But I see a lot of similar stories for entertainment, sports, economics, etc. on the feed on my phone on a daily basis. Some of the ones relating to Jeopardy are beyond comical. Would make some sense if they are written by bots given they all typically have the eye grabbing headline and then there is no there there in the piece itself. I expect that many haters and big fans click on many of those pieces. If it didn't work, they wouldn't do it though the cost of trying is less online.

Disney World Finally Changes Iconic Attraction Back to Its Original Form (Rather than fully closing for refurbishment, Tower of Terror takes half the ride down at a time which leads to longer lines. Both sides have finished their refurbishment and the ride is now at full capacity again)

Disney World Attraction In Hot Water, Mysteriously Closing Early (Rock N Roller Coaster is closing at 8pm two nights next week rather than at 9pm with the rest of the park. Funny enough, this is fairly common if there is a convention or buyout that chooses to setup in the RnRC entrance plaza area and/or have the ride available for their event)

Disney Park Closing Effective Immediately in Orlando (Blizzard Beach closed early today because it's a bit chilly for a waterpark)

After Guests Called It “Absolute Hell”, Disney Genie+ Is About to Get Even More Horrendous at One Park / Amid Steven Tyler Sexual Assault Allegations, Disney World Is Shutting Down Beloved Rock 'n' Roller Coaster (both headlines link to the same article - Rock n Roller Coaster is closing for a scheduled refurbishment at the end of the month)

Breaking: Orlando International Airport operations are now SUSPENDED (MCO experienced delays this morning due to fog, story accompanied by stock photo of the empty tram station, multiple commenters reported that their flights came and went as scheduled.)

Space Mountain Falls as ‘TRON’ Rises (Space Mountain is getting some new paint. And we're going to make wild accusations as to the reason why and say stuff like this: A slightly chilling note might suggest that Disney is preparing to phase the older attraction out in favor of the new coaster.)

“Nearly Beheaded,” Guests Get Wild Story at Classic Magic Kingdom Attraction (A guest waiting in line for Peter Pan at Magic Kingdom received a phone call from someone up north that had a snow shoveling incident)

Disney World Sells Out, Guests Stranded Without Rooms (There are dates in March during peak Spring Break time where all WDW resorts appear to be sold out. A hypothetical guest that has a flight, park admission and park reservations may have to find lodging elsewhere)

All Disney Luxury Resort Guests Sent Warning, Effective Immediately (There were road closures this weekend for the Princess Half Marathon)

I’m trying to think, but I believe any time we’ve ever gone the jumping off point has been the resort, not park tickets. So I see “hypothetical” trouble like that as stupid and avoidable.

Disney Completely Empty, Turns Into Ghost Town After Guests Leave (After the parks close and the guests leave, there are no guests in the parks)

Man, I gotta stop clicking on this topic. I keep getting bamboozled into thinking something new has transpired, and here I am in Disney Facebook Clickbait Hell 2.0.

Coasterbuzz forum thread plays mind games on longtime member. "I keep getting bamboozled" as member meets the Devil himself after being damned to Hell.

Looks like beginning in October the Starcruiser will only operate for 4 days per week with the exception of the two holiday weeks, when it will operate 6 days per week.

The official statement from Disney reads that they "have adjusted voyage dates to meet the needs of our guests."

I'm sure they have done the math that it's better to maintain pricing integrity and operate on fewer days than it is to discount. I still wonder how much demand would be driven if they lowered the price. Is this 100% a price point issue, or is it that people are not as interested in the full-immersion "voyage" as was anticipated?

Hi

I'm sure it's a little of both with some repeatability mixed in. The people who are into this thing and see the value in the price still may not want to do it more than once. (Of course this is a day after a story about a guy going to DL every day for 8 years, so I suppose I may be underestimating fanaticism a tad.)

I think for me it turns into an “if I’m not interested then I can’t see why anyone should be interested.” sort of thing. And now it’s “well, who didn’t see these cutbacks coming especially at those prices.”
And that’s not fair, I know there are plenty of rabid fans, more than I ever considered, and plenty of those couldn’t wait for this experience. So…

What I hear, admittedly third hand, is that it's a staffing issue. They can't get the performers and level of servers they want seven days a week. I'm not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're Actors Equity members, as they are in some of the shows in the parks. If that's the case, I almost guarantee it's a staffing issue. This knocks it down to four working days and one for rehearsal, then two days dark.

Again, the blogging idiots are looking at this like a hotel. Look at it as a live production, and it's a different animal.

That’s an excellent point. We all remember the cast members who wept tears of joy when they were tapped to be cast members (dare we use the term “characters?”) in the theme park’s new land. This however comes in on a new level and the interactions carry a higher level of importance than what happens on a street curb, a ride queue, or at a cash register. The roles are likely well-defined but with certain improvisational elements thrown in. And it all follows the money.
I doubt that Disney is paying Equity scale to every performer involved in the experience but I wouldn’t be surprised if they have a few. Actors Equity rules that they must contract with a union member for every so many cast members. The larger the cast, the higher the number of Equity members required and so on. You might think that the more important roles pull the most money but not necessarily. I’ve been in Equity productions where the Union member was not the lead, but instead a young person (usually a man) in a minor role or the ensemble. Much to the dismay of card- carrying women in my town.
I doubt that Disney could find as many Union performers in Orlando as needed to completely fill the cast, nor would they want to spend the money. They do need to find talent, though, and true fans will immediately see through any short comings, story or performance-wise. That’s probably the hardest part.

I wonder if at some point they will just ditch most of the story and simply keep it as an uber-themed destination. You can still play pretend and do the cosplay thing if you want and spend the night aboard a "ship" that they wove into the canon for some reason, but you don't have to watch Rey and Kylo have the exact same battle every 48...er...96 hours.

Promoter of fog.

Actors Equity is a big part of Entertainment across all 4 parks and resorts. What Jeff mentioned about staffing would make sense and I would also guess some downtime without guests would also benefit those who have to make repairs and work on equipment (both entertainment and hotel infrastructure). Having a few dark days a week is a win for everyone at the resort.
