completely close 2 days per week in the middle of the summer
Isn't it obvious that they probably have some kind of buy-outs? Why would they "close" six months in advance?

Sounds like you are not in their target audience. Doesn't mean others aren't in it and in sufficient numbers to make the resort work from a financial standpoint.
Uh huh. That’s what I’ve been saying all along. I’m not their target audience. I’ve never once said that others aren’t interested. I’ve given the reasons that I won’t stay there, and you’re making it out like I’m calling it a failure.
I did speculate that maybe attendance is softer than they thought, evidenced by the mid-week closures and moving people around, and it’s hard not to when that’s kind of what it looks like.
It's certainly possible that occupancy is soft, but that seems like speculation to me (as Raven-Phile acknowledged). It could be that it's a tough attraction to staff, and they have performers who want to take a break or they're having staffing challenges as their initial cast leaves. It could be they need to do more maintenance than they had expected (although I would think midsummer would be an odd time to schedule that). It could be they're working up new plot lines and need time to rehearse and train.
And, it could be they're not selling out as much as hoped, but they'd rather hold the line on price rather than discounting.
There may be some advantage to keeping the price high enough to attract only the most serious fans. At $5000-6000 a room, you're going to have some confidence you'll get people who will really play along - nobody is going to pay that much unless an interactive stay is what they want. It would be a disappointment to pay, say, half that and find yourself among people who are bored/uninterested/sarcastic about the experience.
I finally figured out that the Disney bloggers are using ChatGPT to write their headlines.

If that's real, it's amazing. I would add, "This beloved Disney attraction is closing!" followed by a 10,000 word article on Blizzard Beach closing for 2 weeks in January.
Here's a few from the last couple of days:
Disney Park Closing Imminently For Multiple Days in Orlando (It's going down to the 50s so Blizzard Beach is closing for two days)
Animal Sneaks on Disney World Attraction Where Unfortunate Accident Occurred (an animal ran around near Carousel of Progress, which had an accident involving one of the moving walls in 1974. In California)
Fans Demand Action After Guest Wears “Racist” Shirt to Disney World (A guy wore a Splash Mountain shirt to Magic Kingdom)
Universal Orlando Attraction Shutting Down Next Month (Water rides get their annual refurbishments in the cooler months)
Guests Wait Hours For Last Remaining Souvenir of Disgraced Disney Ride (There was a line at the Splash Mountain penny press machines on closing day of the ride)
Disney World Park Turns Into a Ghost Town With No Waits (The limited attendance 'Disney After Hours' event is a great time to ride popular rides with shorter than normal wait times)
Universal Scares Fans With Latest Report, Questions Grow (Someone from Universal Creative tweeted a clue about a possible IP coming to Horror Nights in 2023)
Disney World Warns Guests Staying In Luxury Resorts (Traffic patterns change during WDW race weekends)
Disney World Guests Overrun Dated Ride, Break Attraction (Splash Mountain had a 10-20 minute downtime on its last day)
Mold Infestation Closes Disney World Attraction, Fate Confirmed (Little Mermaid at Hollywood Studios still hasn't reopened since the COVID closure. Disney still has not said anything about it. A link to a second ITM article about it still gets no closer to explaining why the headline mentions a mold infestation)
Guests Given Hotel Room, Makeover After Sitting In Human Feces on Disney Park Ride (Actually, this one seems to be spot on. No pun intended.)
I don't know which grosses me out more: that people write these headlines, or that the headlines work as intended.

I have questions about the type of makeover you get following such a mishap.
It's a slow afternoon at work...
Disney World Planning Ban That Will Affect All Guests (Tron will have lockers)
“Legs Went Numb,” Guests Trapped on Universal Attraction (Forbidden Journey had a ride stop - guests on social media said the A/C kept the building too cold)
Iconic Disney World Attraction Abandoned, Completely Empty (Carousel of Progress only fills about half of the seats on slower weekdays)
Disney Ride Closed Indefinitely After "Disgraceful" Issue (A ride at Disneyland Paris that needed a little TLC and paint work is now closed for a scheduled refurbishment)
Three-Hour Roller Coaster Malfunction Ruins Guests' Visit (The Superman coaster at Six Flags Mexico had a ride stop that resulted in a lift walkdown and didn't reopen for about three hours)
Disneyland Abruptly Ends Decades-Old Tradition (A 'College Band Program' music series at Disneyland will pause for a year for other entertainment that is planned for the Disney 100 Celebration)
Iconic Ride Gutted at Disney World, Vehicles Removed After Closure (Splash Mountain drained all of its water and the logs have been seen going to the maintenance shop for their refurbishment/redecorating)
Your Nostalgia Could Be Killing the Disney Parks (For you!)
Today was a winter weather day in Texas so I had time for this:
Disney Park Area Still Closed Off After Building Collapses (Part of a retail building facade at DHS collapsed in October and the author is upset they aren't done with repairs. This gem at the end was the chef's kiss: "Disney never confirmed any major damage from this issue. Multiple attractions were closed earlier this year due to fire damage. Guests were kept from entering Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom after the Park’s nightly fireworks show.")
All Magic Kingdom Guests Forced to Exit Park 6.5 Hours Early (Park closed early for a cast member event, hours were advertised months in advance, author took this as an opportunity to bitch about 2pm park hopping.)
Here's a doozy this morning
Disney Cast Member Insults Diabetic Guest (A security cast member at bag check wasn't sure what the insulin pump in a guest's bag was and asked them)
As someone pointed out in the comments on Facebook, including a photo of a random smiling cast member with the post was low even for them.
I think at this point, they're not even targeting the fan base, just organic rage-curious traffic.

There are enough people interested in the Escape Room experience to have one in every strip mall/FEC with dates booked weeks in advance. Personally, I cannot think of much I'd want to spend an hour and $40+ on less than an escape room. Yet, I don't take glee in an Escape Room closing or doing different themes, or whatever they owners decide to do to bring in more money. Success or failure doesn't matter to me at all, as I am not the audience.
And yet, so many are so incensed that Galactic Starcruiser exists when they aren't interested in any possible version of the experience. I just don't have the time or energy to invest in stuff I am not interested in and will never participate in.
Escape rooms seem a little too much like a corporate retreat, and if I never do one of those again that would be fine.

Disney World’s Open Secret and the Explosive Link It Has to the US Defense Department (The US Department of Defense spends more on explosives than anyone or anywhere else in the country. Disney World might come in second, but we don't actually know)
Demolition Permit Filed at Disney Resort, Area Set to Be Destroyed (Disneyland Paris is removing tents used for security screening.)
CEO Bob Iger Speaks on Future of Unpopular Disney Park Reservations (with the tagline on Facebook: Will we finally be rid of Park Pass Reservations?) (According to the accompanying article, no.)
Disney Makes Massive Change to ‘Star Wars’ Experience (In a story with multiple photos of Galaxy's Edge, they let you know that Launch Bay (not in GE) hours have been extended daily.)
New Disneyland Ride Allegedly Constructed Cheaply Compared to Disney World Original (The new ride that's been open for 2 weeks has had some downtime and uses a different charging system than the one in Florida. They don't know if this is related to the downtime. The article only mentions that the charging system is different and makes no reference to the "cheaper" label in the headline.)
No one could possibly be actively seeking that site out on purpose.
