Forum Sensitivity

I've seen it. I stay away from it. I've been the subject of it once.

My Beautiful wife, Julia, is the best thing that has ever happened to me!

Hey if the sarcasm and alleged meanness of members is what's keeping the riffraff out, keep it up. Some of the other forums I go to are utterly congested with stupid comments.

Saying you've seen it won't help putting thing into context. Examples please or I'm inclined to believe there is no problem.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

Yeah, pics or it didn't happen.

I was ready to post a reply early on and most of my points have been made. The recent influx of noise and the fact that a few people enable and encourage it is one of the bigger issues. It makes the people trying to combat it look like jerks when all they're doing is trying to preserve the integrity of the discussions. Anyone who thinks this is a tough crowd needs to go back and read discussions from 10 years ago or so.

Another more minor problem is that no one can seem to embrace the idea of not feeding trolls. There is a current poster here (I'll be civil and not name names) that is clearly trolling the forum with shock value and half-baked opinions. And you can count on the same group of people to give him the attention he's looking for. One of his comments has even been the subject of a CB meme. I don't think there's any way he would have had a platform here years ago. It happened a few years ago with the guy who hated Disney and the idea of a hotel at Great Adventure. It was pretty clear to me that he was trolling, but you could always rely on the usual suspects to rise to the bait every single time.

I know who you're talking about, and I can assure you that his opinions are more like fully baked. He had multiple brownies, you know.

Stoogemanmoe, I can guarantee you that if the main members have been mean its because they don't want people continuously posting stupid, unfounded, un-researched, in-factual, dumb comments and ideas. Harsh criticism is good criticism.

Believe me, Im the same way. Been a member for 7 years already, which at one time I took a hiatus for over a year, I'm low scoring, I haven't made any close friends, and there were times I was ripped apart and thought what a piece of **** he is. TOO BAD!! If you cant handle the heat, get out of the kitchen. I stay cause even when I think their being mean, its because their pretty smart, and they know what their taking about. You have to learn that.

Carrie, I have two words I've been saying to myself for the last 3 years, that I believe the world revolves around, "societies approval". Doesn't matter what anyones does these day, weather its how your hair looks, the clothes you picked out, how you drive, your opinions, your attitude, your level of income, it seems everything has to have societies approval. If society approves with what your doing, then its "right", and you can be emotional supported. BARF!! Makes me sick!

I absolutely love how this is pulling people out of the woodwork with strong opinions.

I like Tyler's posts most of the time. I think he has really improved a lot just over the last few weeks even. No one is perfect, and he can only get better with time.

I don't think Timber-Rider is trolling on purpose. A few of his posts even lately have been very good. Again, it takes time to understand "the right way" to post on CoasterBuzz.

I'll admit that I was extremely sensitive over the early part of being here. You guys made me tougher, and the practice I have had writing on CoasterBuzz everyday gave me a lot of the self-confidence that I lacked. I even wrote for a newspaper for a few years because of my experience on CoasterBuzz.

I was a little poo poo head back then, and my point here is that, a lot of people who post here are little poo poo heads when they first start posting. I am probably still a poo poo head sometimes. Like I said, no one is perfect.

Mean, nice, trollish, or sensible, I love CoasterBuzz!

I can actually read the stuff with paragraph breaks (admittedly, TL; DR comes to mind whenever I see a wall of text). Yes, arguments become clearer, more well-defined and supported, and are stated better when challenged and practiced. Allowing substandard spelling, grammar, etc., only leads to more internet chat/text shorthand, and only serves to make even well-crafted arguments seem less convincing.

P.S. "Argument" in this case doesn't imply that there is a bitter disagreement. Some of my best arguments are made convincing people I know and like that I have a valid point, even when I really don't believe I do.... ;~P

Wow. There seems to be a lot of angry undertones here. Some of you are saying you want to have a forum to discuss your passion, yet you seem to want to root out people that you don't agree with, and then moan and groan when someone posts too many topics that you don't like. As if there is some high and mighty click here, and those who can't conform to the click shouldn't be here. How can you expect to have a diverse conversation, if all you want to do is ridicule people for speaking their minds?

I know I have taken plenty of abuse on this site for my views on Cedar Fair, but, it is only one opinion, and however negative you think it is, it leads to discussion, and different opinions on the subject make for interesting reading material and entertainment. I notice a lot of grumbling on Tyler Boes posts, and I think some of you could be a little nicer. Not everyone on this site is going to post a topic gem. Why all the fuss about it?

I have been on forums where almost every other post is just one or two words like: Ditto...Rad..LMFAO..ZZZZZZZZZZ...LOL...or even something like this....iamthewarlwusfizzizle. So, instead of being petty about every little thing. We should embrace our discussions, wether we like the topics or not, and be mature with each other.

Sure, we can still have fun and crack jokes once in a while, but lately, all that seems to happen in the general formus is people shooting each other down, and very little talk about roller coasters.

I notice that people seem to think that when someone posts a topic that they are 100 percent right, and an arguement begins. Did you ever think that maybe the person who posted that subject might have been looking for someone who might agree, or respond positively, instead of all the

"You're obviously brain dead" replies?

I notice you can't even give your critique of a horrible coaster (Mean Streak) without everyone starting to salivate and clench their jaws. And get ready for the attack. I have very thick skin, and I'm sure I will get several nasty scars from my responce...bite away.

I didn't do it! I swear!!

As I see it, the moderators can steer this forum in any direction they choose, and as unfairly tyrannically as they want. The only option for the dissenter is to leave, correct as he or she may be. It is not as if there's a First Amendment application here, where minority opinions enjoy protection. If I paid for the bandwidth to run a forum, I'd reserve the right to root out the jackasses too, or at least require them to conform to certain standards.

Count me as someone who could stand to see this place a little meaner.

If this were any more awesome, I'd have to change my shorts.

I personally vow to never post another thing on the internet that doesn't include this.

CoasterDiscern's avatar

The only thing I disagree with Timber is your opinion on being nicer to the Tyler Boes posts, "hey that could be a new headline", if his posts are sh*t then he should be told so, only way one learns.

Ask not what you can do for a coaster, but what a coaster can do for you.

You can always use the signature feature to change your signature so every one of your posts has iamthewarlwusfizzizle.

Great addition. He was probably unaware of that.

Hi

^
You forgot the #sarcasm#

People come, people go. I have been around for 7 years. I do not post much, and I lurked for 3 years before I made my first contribution. I do believe the quality of posters has declined over time. There used to be some lively, thoughtful discussions on a wide range of topics. Now there seems to be a lot of negativity and a willingness to take any percieved slight personally. There are also a lot of new posters who just contribute so much noise it's hard to hear anything intellegent.

Anytime you have an internet forum there are going to be members who simply do not get along. That's OK. It happens. It's nothing to take personally.

Here's how you know whether you're good poster or not:

1) Do you think about whether you should hit "post a reply" before you hit it?

2) Do you think about whether you should hit "submit reply" before you hit it?

3) Do you reread your post before you hit "submit reply."

I have written multiple paragraph posts and hit "back" on my browser instead of "submit reply" because I realized I had nothing to contribute and really just wanted to hear my own voice.
